Product Description
As the first wireless and only power meter on the market, the PowerTap SL 2.4 uses coded digital technology for reliable, clean transmission of heart rate and ride data from hub to handlebar. No more wires to get in the way on a technical decent or tight wooded single track. It helps with clean up too; who wants to worry about wires when srubbing mud off a frame after an epic ride.
By zeroing in on your ride metrics the PowerTap SL 2.4 actually puts you more in-tune with your body. How much work does it really take to power over that boulder garden, and how many calories are you burning slogging through that momentum-sapping mud?
By understanding where you need to be for a great ride every time, your training actually becomes easier and more focused. And because cadence is measured by torque—not with a separate sensor—the computer is 100% wireless, easy to install and out of the way.

Strengths: Great to have power as an option for the MTB.Weaknesses: DurabilityBottom Line: The PT works great for the most part. Downloading the data is not as easy/reliable as SRM, but PT is the only viable option for MTB right now as far as I can tell.
Only issue for me has been durability. After almost a year of sporadic use, my hub disintegrated. Not sure yet what the problem is, but the freehub is coming out of the hub. Let's see what PT says about this...

Strengths: Hub is stiff as it provides a large flange, hr, watts, upload and review workouts, easily swappable between bikes, wireless setupWeaknesses: No altitude (but future upgrades will allow you to use Garmin 705, proprietary disc. The hub adds some extra weight, but as its at the hub it's hardly noticeable.Bottom Line: I've had the powertap disc since it was pretty much available. Having wattage for training is the best thing you can possibly have to gauge and improve your performance. Some claim "It's to jumpy, or unreadable on the trail" While true in tech sections, but on long extended climbs or the flats it's great to now when and where to push the power levels out. Uploading and reviewing the files allow you to pinpoint your weakness and strengths and train harder to improve
Once connected, I've not had any problems with drop-outs (unless I stop for a bit). It held up awesome for a full 24 hour race in the rain and mud and never had water or battery issues.
Love that I can just swap it between bikes and go
