Submitted by freeride7 a Cross Country Rider from California
Date Reviewed: July 19, 2009
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:used
Strengths:Quality workmanship-performance-customer service-price-easy to maintain-engagement.
Weaknesses:The sound is quite bearable but as a matter of personal taste I would prefer total silence.
Bottom Line:Comparing quality, performance, price and customer service;Hadley is a `best buy` PERIOD.Bought a used `108 pt`.Hadley said send it in.Got it back one week later with brand new insides(72 pt) including new titanium freehub shell and bolt up axel. The ride is very smooth, very solid and with very fast engagement that has inspired new confidence during climbing and making split second gear choices in the technical sections.Unless and until I-9 or CK can actually do better on every point-not just engagement,I simply see no sound reason to shop elsewhere.

Favorite Trail:demo
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:universal cycles
Strengths:Great engagement, cheaper than kings and easy to service! I have beaten them to hell and they run perfect...trail riding, to dirt jumping to freeride.
Weaknesses:My rear hub comes loose after every ride (need to tighten with allen wrench no matter how tight i get it) and has so from day 1...keep meaning to call hadley and see if loctite on the threads would help.
Bike Setup:ibis mojo
Bottom Line:Couldn't afford kings, but after realizing you needed special tools for kings they were out. heard about hadley's and they were way cheap for the same features so it was an easy pick. Great engagement: quick as can be so easier to get over tech stuff. I'm also pretty novice at repair, but have taken these apart to re-grease and clean with no issues (everything but replacing the bearings which are still great after 3+ years of abuse).

Would buy in a flash for my fr bike if i had the money :(

Favorite Trail:Sunset
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Very nice blue ano, Ti freehub body, Ti bolts ( This is the SS HUB) And the 72pt engagement. MADE IN USA
Weaknesses:no website or shiney brochures but I guess thats why they are 25% lees than the others made in USA hubs
Similar Products Used:I had all Chris King on my other bikes and have now switched them to Hadley
Bike Setup:Titus Eleven SS Fox F100.
Bottom Line:I had choosen a Hadley for my SS because CK did not have a stainless freehub for their SS hub. I have replaced freehubs on my oldest CK hub that was aluminum and I knew that a SS application called for a stronger set up. Now that I have been using them over a year and have the 9mm thru axle hub in front.BTW, Hadley was the first to start using 100X9 front hubs and 135X10 rear hubs with thru axles. That should tell you something when now the others are finally updating to a 10mm rear. The hubs are a work of art but are strong as sht. I have now coverted all my bikes to Hadley and ride harder and faster than ever. Going from QR to thru axle is part of it I'm sure. Do yourself a favor and try them and you will be hooked

Favorite Trail:tempest
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $240.00
Purchased At:wooden ski & wheel
Strengths:great strength, great customer support, engagement
Weaknesses:none so far
Similar Products Used:shimano, formula, sun ringle
Bike Setup:Jamis Komodo, 55ata, doubletracks, nevegal's(dh), sram, deity, sunline
Bottom Line:I have rode this hub for more than three years now on three different bikes and it has withstood the abuse. I recently put it on my hardtail and found that it was slipping out of the dropout so I called and asked if I could get some new parts. When they found that I had a 108pt they said to send it in and they would take care of me. That is just what they did, they switched it to the newer and improved 72pt with the titanium ends on a SS hub and sent it back within a week at no charge!! I know everybody bashes them for the lack of a website and that they are hard to reach. From my experience, looking for their number is well worth the trouble for some of the industries best customer support and warranties. I will not use anything else on my bikes unless it reads Hadley on it.

Date Reviewed: November 18, 2007
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Quality, 108 point engagement, can be fully rebuilt for a fraction of their cost, looks
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:sun ringle, shimano xt
Bike Setup:5" travel Titus SB with Velocity Aeroheats and Sapim CX-rays laced up to these beauties.
Bottom Line:These are some of the nicest hubs out there. They are cheaper by over $100 than Kings (you don't have to pay for Hadley's website since they don't have one). They are made in the USA. I had mine rebuilt from 32h to 36h by Lyle at spinlitecycling.com. He liked them so much that he got set-up as a dealer based on my hubs. They engage quicker than any hub I've ever tried and feel like they will last for a very long time. As long as Hadley continues making hubs this nice, they have a customer for life.

Favorite Trail:Fort Yargo
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Universal Cycle custom wheel build
Strengths:Solid CNC construction; light aluminum and titanium materials. Easy/simple maintenance using common tools (only tool needed in 5mm allen). Quick engagement, consistent performance ride after ride.
Weaknesses:The product is well built and WILL be my hub for many, many years. Only soft spot in the product is a very delicate seal between the shell and free hub body. HOWEVER, should this fail Hadley will send you replacement post haste (no charge I might add).
Similar Products Used:Shimano
Bike Setup:Hadley 108 QR IS disc (rear only) laced to Mavic XC717 disc with DT Swiss super comp spokes
Bottom Line:Fantastically smooth, quick engagement, easy maintenance (really none needed but recommend re-grease (nlgi 00) gear and PTFE oil on pawls annually), SUPERB product support from Hadley, cheaper and possibly better performing than Chris King - certainly no tuning/adjustment needed with expensive proprietary tool. You will not be disappointed in this quality made in the USA hub.

Favorite Trail:Dakota Ridge
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Mountain High Cyclery
Strengths:Engagement! Quality!
Similar Products Used:Shimano XT
Bike Setup:Yeti 575
Bottom Line:I got the Hadley 108. The rapid engagement is great! It is almost instantaneous. I bought it purely for the rapid engagement (108 points instead of XT 24 points) and am extremely pleased. Costs less than a King and has more rapid engagement. Appears to be extremely well made.

Only has one ride on it so far, so I hope it holds up. Everything I've read and heard indicates it will.

I was concerned that the sound would be annoying, but it's not bad at all. I hardly notice it. It is more of a buzz than the King clicking. Not very loud.

Strengths:stout, black, build it & forget about it.
Weaknesses:www.getintothe21stcenturyalready!.com
Similar Products Used:Deore 525, xt
Bike Setup:Yep, it's set up.
Bottom Line:Built with XC hoops, DT spokes & brass nips by Josh @ Universal cycles. These are sweet. They spin perfectly after a year of use. Will clean the rear up sometime soon, but only out of love & not out of necessity. They purr just loud enough to warn the big cats that I'm coming. Perhaps people behind me get annoyed by the noise, but that's their issue. My rear 525 was a pain in the arse, royally; froze up 6 miles into Wilder Ranch -- great place for a hike, but sux when you're there to ride. That was the inspiration behind buying some good hubs. Haven't been let down yet, and from the looks of the other reviews, it's not going to happen.

Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $200.00
Purchased At:Mountianeer cycles
Strengths:Better / cheaper / lighter than Chris Kings, 10mm though axle rear (sweeeeet!!!!!!!!) 10mm though axle rear.
Weaknesses:Hummmm??? No web site. Must be spending too much time building quality products.
Similar Products Used:Hope, White Industries, WTB, XT, XTR, Chris King
Bike Setup:Intense 5.5 Swinger 4way, 05TalasRLC, Thomson, XT / XTR groupo,King headset, Intense saddle, ATAC Z pedals, Hadley 9mm through axle front 10mm though axle rear (sweeeeeet), Mavic UST rims, tire choice varies with soil conditions.
Bottom Line:I have an obsession / sickness with mountain bikes. Light FR, SS, trail, CC you name it. I have been riding m-bikes since the late 80’s (yea I am old) and the only road riding I do is in the parking lot at the trail head or on my street making adjustments. No disrespect but I would rather take my chances with the mountain lions vs DUI drivers.

This is the 05 model. These are currently the best hubs on the market. Light, strong hand made, reasonable cost and now come in various colors (if you are into that). The new ratcheting mechanism has near instant engagement. Easy to adjust (not like the Chris King disks with the HD axle (Nightmare and always come loose!)

Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $249.00
Purchased At:Sun BIke Shop
Strengths:This is a product update. These hubs are well built, excellent design, built to last and take alot of abuse, great customer service from Mike Hadley. Smooth quality cartridge bearings and a cassette system that will not let you down. They come stock on Intense and Santa Cruz DH frames. What does that tell you?
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Most hubs out there including Kings and DT.
Bike Setup:2003 Access XCL with Avid 185mm mechanicals.
Bottom Line:I love these hubs. The quality is top notch and they last forever. I have three sets of Hadley disc hubs and would not ever part with one of them. I have had Kings, DTs, Shimano XTR, etc. and have only kept my Hadleys. The others are gone. I'm amazed everytime I ride with my Hadleys.

Favorite Trail:skookum flats
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $80.00
Purchased At:Wheel World
Strengths:Note: this is one of the older rear hubs sold with the GT label, with replacement parts from Hadley. Product strengths: looks good, appears to be sealed well against gunk, does not fall apart immediately; folks at Hadley are friendly.
Weaknesses:Poor value, slow customer service.
Similar Products Used:Hope, Hugi (old and new), Nossler, Phil Wood, Shimano (old XT/XTR), WTB
Bike Setup:29" wheel, drop handlebar
Bottom Line:The old hubs had a reputation for creaking then failing. Called and talked to Mr. Hadley and he said if I bought the hubs they would send me -- free -- new axle kits that would take care of the problem. They did send them, but it took THREE YEARS and when the new axle kits arrived I found out they require special tools (thin 18mm wrench) and take the hub from well under 280g to around 350g. Finally, I think there was a design defect in the original they did not fix in the new one. For the money and the weight I could have gotten something more mainstream with proven durability. Well, sometimes life gives you lemons, so make lemonade ... I built up a wheel and it occasionally clunks when you first step on the pedals after coasting; and after a year of not very serious use it is starting to creak under load. I know building good hubs is difficult, and I have had problems with other hubs I have used, but I would stay away from these unless there was a lot of positive feedback (there isn't as of this review) or some really compelling reason to use them (killer deal).

Favorite Trail:Rock Lake Loop
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:Local Shop
Strengths:5 bearings in rear hub! Bomb proof!
Weaknesses:Heavy, expensive, freehub came loose a few times.
Similar Products Used:XT, Hayes Superlight
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Sugar 2+, XTR, Romic, Pyslo SL, Hayes 6" mag, Thompson post and stem, Race Face 1.5" riser bar, ATAC's Hadley, 14/15 wheelsmith spokes (3x) Mavic X517.
Bottom Line:Great hubs. The looseness could have been break in the first time but 4 times is a bit excessive during the first 6 months of riding. Other than that the hubs have been absolutely perfect. And a bit heavy, but seriously, how much difference is 100 grams going to make?

Favorite Trail:any trail
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Sun Bike Shop
Strengths:Quality rear hub, great looks, built to last, well thought out design, titanium cassette body, quality cartridge bearings, comes in black, disc only. Easy to disassemble for maintenance. Mike Hadley provides great customer service.
Weaknesses:Not much but if I were to nit-pick: Uses oil (not grease) in cassette pawls that can leak out and run down the spokes (don't put too much oil in this area). Hard to find these hubs but they (the hubs) never break. Cassette noise a little on the loud side.
Similar Products Used:Most hubs out there including Shimano LX, XT, XTR, Kings and DT 240's.
Bike Setup:Black Interloc steel frame with Hadley hubs, Velocity VXC rimes, Shimano XTR and XT, Avid Mechancial 185mm disc brakes.
Bottom Line:These are great well built and designed hubs that will last forever. They are on par with Kings in terms of quality and dependability. They are used on pro downhill bikes so you know they're built for abuse.
