Strengths:    Cassette and bearings never failed me.

Weaknesses:    Hub flange broke, spokes came out, can't use the hub.

Bottom Line:
I have a AC apx8 rear hub, spoke flanges broke off. Can't find any information on the internet or from local bike shops. Please help! I would like to have the hub shell replaced if possible. Where do I send it? Thank You!

Strengths:    Got these hubs with an incredibly loaded Mountain Cycles cross country bike. I've used them for years now and never had any problems. The freehub sounds really cool, its loud and just kinda feels more secure. I've built them on two different sets of rims/spokes and never had any problems at all. The rims and spokes failed before the hubs ever did. You can easily service the bearings, which I do recommend after a season of wet riding. I'm never giving mine away. They've been flawless.

Weaknesses:    They don't make them anymore

Bottom Line:
Awesome bike/setup, capably enhanced by the hubs

Strengths:    Strong hub if you got one that AC built correctly

Weaknesses:    AC quality control

Bottom Line:
I have had this hub for 10 years now and it has been an outstanding during this time to the point where it was serviced for the first time a week ago

The biggest concern with any AC product is its quality control. It will either be outstanding or a complete lemon. If I had to rate AC as a company it would receive no flamin chilies.....

Strengths:    nice looking

Weaknesses:    well, its ability to hold spokes

Bottom Line:
This is a review of the apx hub:
Well, this hub is about the saddest bike component I've owned. It was only ridden (by my girlfriend on her beater bike) a few times to the sandwich shop, and while the bike was sitting indoors a two inch piece of the right hub flange blew off. Closer inspection of the hub revealed more cracks on the lower section of the flange. Whoever built this thing, and let it out of the machine shop, should be ashamed.

Buy it if you don't care whether your hub acutally holds the spoke elbows. ;)

Strengths:    looks, weight

Weaknesses:    rear bearings and seals

Bottom Line:
I used the hubs for 1 year and passed them on to my mother, she destroyed the rear hub just by cruising around. The seals broke and the Aluminum-Axle destroyed itself on the fly... there are no spare parts availible in Germany and the website is out of service - and I have some AC cranks waiting to break down...

Strengths:    NONE.

Weaknesses:    SEE BELOW ABOUT THIS GARBAGE AIR COOLER REAR HUB

Bottom Line:
THE FIRST DAY I GOT MY BIKE I HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR HUB. THE HUB WOULD KEEP PEDALING THE CRANKS, THE PEDALS WOULD SLIP HALF WAY THRU THE PEDAL STROKE. VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE STUFF WE RIDE. WHEN I EMAIL AC ABOUT THIS I GOT A RUDE EMAIL BACK SAYING THAT THEY NEVER HAVE THAT PROBLEM, MABEY MY SHOPS FAULT. AFTER REPLACING THE INTERNAL GEAR RING, THE 4 PAWS, AND SPRING I STILL HAD A PROBLEM. ONLY AFTER REPLACING THE FLYWHEEL CAGE THAT HOLDS THE CASSETTE DID IT COME BACK TO USABLE. IT WAS A DEFECT FROM THE WORD GO. ITS BEEN A MONTH NOW AND IT IS STARTING ALL OVER AGAIN. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM AC AGAIN. THIS PRODUCT AS WELL AS EVERYTHING ELSE THEY PRODUCE SHOULDN'T EVEN BE ALOUD TO GET 1 CHILI. BUYER BEWARE.

Strengths:    Good Front Hubs, still going strong from back in 96

Weaknesses:    Its a damn shame the rear hubs arent as good as the front, The hubs are on my hardtail now and i dont use them that much but i got my rear hub in 97 and am onto my 4th axle they snap in half rather easily the freehub sh*ts itself regularly as the hub is not well sealed.

Bottom Line:
Awesome front hub shame about the rear

Strengths:    Strong
stiff
good looks.

Weaknesses:    None yet

Bottom Line:
I have this rear hub for 4 yrs now and haven't had one problem with them yet. They are smooth and strong and very loud when free wheeling. People hear you coming. Dont get me Chris King hub is a superior hub by far, its on the front of my bike. I was unable to get a C.K. rear at the time I put my bike together. It seems AC has very poor quality control on their products. Every second person I read has had a problem with them. For people out there go Chris King, spend the money and enjoy the ride.

Oh yeah I'm still waiting for those AC cranks to snap in two.

I have a set of Kings on order, if your smart you will do the same! I think instead of Adventure Components it should be Attractive Crap Not even deserving of 1 star!!! Strengths:

Bottom Line:
I've only had the hubs, front and rear, for four months, but I got them used; I think they're about a year and a half old. I weigh 185 and go fast on the rough stuff at slickrock and generate a fair amount of torque going up. I've had no problems. They seem to have very low rolling resistance. I've read reviews about the SID being flexy, but haven't noticed it on mine, it may be because of the beefy front axle. The freehub sounds like a machine gun; its kind of cool and lets you know everything's okay. Check the specs at adventurecomponents.com. I'll give it 5 for now.

Strengths:
reasonably light, roll very well, and are very very stiff!

Weaknesses:
friends refuse to ride with me because they complain of headaches

Bottom Line:
Everyone keeps telling me these things are a time bomb waiting to go of but I've had them for quite some time now and I hav had nothing but good experiences, so I'm giving them the benefit of the dout. Other than that there really stiff roll extremely well and just keep going. The first thing you'll notice is the ear shattering sound of this hub it's sooo loud some fiends refuse to ride with me. But I like them!

Weaknesses:
They break and poor customer service. Enough for the Chubb my ass.

Bottom Line:
Broke the freehub 5 times in one year. This all on my second bike. One time I sent the broken parts in a baggy with the hub back for warrenty, and they put the same split bearing race and broken pawls back into the hub and sent it back with a reciept stating repaired under warrenty. I will never buy anything they sell again, nor should you.

These hubs have given me over 4 years of great service and with nary a bent axle or problem otherwise...They're cool and they're loud and they work. buy them it 's very much worth it! I have mine built up on wtb powerbeam rims and wheelsmith db spokes and alloy nipples. combined with my fat titanium its a reliable and fast wheelset.
