Strengths:
Great 29er tire. Rolls fast and hooks up great. Durable and long lasting.
Weaknesses:
Not so great in the 26 inch size. Washes out on loose terrain, traction only marginal.
Similar Products Used:
Maxxis Crossmark 26 inch.
Bike Setup:
Redline Monocog 29er, Cannondale Rush 1000
Bottom Line:
My Monocog 29er came with these tires, and I liked them so much I bought a set for my 26 inch Rush. Unfortunately I'm not nearly as impressed with the 26 inch version. The front end is very prone to washing out on loose surfaces and sliding down off camber trails, and just OK on hardpack. Better rear tire than front. My old Maxxis Crossmarks were better in every way, despite being a smaller 26x2.2 size. They work great on the 29er though, much better than their small tread might lead you to believe. The only drawback is that they wash down off-camber trails. Great on roots, rocks, hardpack, and they're even passable in sand and mud. And 29er tires last a long, long time. It's the exact same tread, so it must be the fact that more tread touches the ground. I've never tried any other 29er tire. I give the 29er version four stars, but the 26 inch only two.

Bottom Line:
Nice cushey fairly big volume tire . Strong sidewall , but with low profile nobs to keep the weight down . Good traction in all weather , sheds mud , does not push in the turns ( like other WTB tires I've tried ) because the side nobs are cut down for a rounded profile tire that digs in rather then tall soft edges that roll over , even on uphill switch backs(Timberwolf) . WTB says it's a cross country tire but it works perfect for agressive all mountain riding with rocks and roots . This is the best tire I've found that feels and performs close to a downhill tire , but without the weight .

These tires (29er version) hook up like crazy! have yet to get a flat knock on wood.
able to run super low psi
The bottom line is i love these tires they hook up like crazy! my buddy has a monocog that came with these stock as well and was always talking about how much he hated them. now mind you two or threes times a week we roll the same trails same ride and i never had a problem with them. he does run more PSI then me and that makes a huge difference i guess. we just did a narly ride in the rain on a trail with lots of clay like mud and these tires where insane. very very rare did i spin on hills. my above buddy put on nevegals on his monocog and spun out just as much as me, and those tires look meaty as hell! so bottom line? these tires are awesome for what i run which is maine so that means lots of mud all kinds too the watery kind right to the thick clay like mud dry trails roots and rocks. these tires have yet to fail me! more impressed with these then any tire ive ever used.

Bike Setup:
Gary Fisher Rig 29er SS, Running the WTB in the Rear with a Bontrager Jones on the Front.
Bottom Line:
When I got my 29er SS, I saw these tires and thought "oh man, I need to change these." I have been quite surprised in a good way as they have made a good impression. I ordered some Conti's, but then just decided to leave these on.
I have raced them in sloppy mud, dry sand, wet sand, hard pack, wet dirt, dry dirt, roots, rocks and through creeks. They have been great. They obtain small cuts quickly but that may be due to being on my rear. The tread also wears down quickly.
These seem more like a 2.2. The knobs don't stick out far so you can run them in tight frames with little clearance that probably usually only accommodate 2.1's. My Bontragers were cutting into my frame on the rear so I moved them to the front of my bikes and used these in the rears.

Strengths:
Good traction on rock and hard pack, OK in sand. Comfortable ride at lower end of pressure range.
Weaknesses:
Tend to spin in loose gravel going uphill, low profile tread.
Similar Products Used:
None for 29ers
Bike Setup:
Came on GT 29er Peace Multi, pretty much stock setup
Bottom Line:
Seems like a decent tire otherwise but traction in steep, loose gravel(which is alot of my riding) is not there compared to my old ride on 26X2.5 Nevegals. Will probably try some Panaracer Rampages which look closer in profile to Nevegal.
I've given 3-chilis as they do seem to be a good tire, definitely not great or outstanding. It's tough to give a value rating as they came with the bike but a quick price check looks about average so 3 again.
Depending on terrain these may be an excellent choice and indeed an outstanding tire but for the given conditions I ride, I was not so impressed.

these came on my bike, so i havent really tried other tires on it, but when i get a new set...im getting these again. they really add some suspension if ran low psi(i do rigid so it helps)...in mud, they do pretty well, dry packed soil..they are amazing and fast, climb very well. they dont do too horribly in snow, though im not sure anything does that great. i think they are reasonably inexpensive, so that's a good thing.

They stick to everything like roots, slickrock, drypack, but have the rolling speed of the monorail. So I can use them on the street without breaking a sweat, then turn around and bomb some trails without worrying breaking loose. They feel a little heavy at first when turning but roll so smooth that you can accelerate out with no problem. No pinch-flats. Great all around tire.

beware...these tires are fast. low profile..not big knobs like my kedas (which i liked very much) had to adjust my riding into the turns 'cause these things had a lot of speed. running 2.3 in front and back to the climbs aren't as easy as running my 2.1 in the rear but the low rooling resistance and the good traction help. used these on a 4hr ride through mud (shed mud well), then climbing technical wet rock (performed very well), then a technical downhill over small loose rock and did a great job. even rode through sand well. many have to switch out the rear with the 2.1 version.

Beefy for 29er tire. Great Traction. Fair price.
Weaknesses:
Havent noticed anything yet.
Bottom Line:
Picked it up as my front tire because it was laying around teh shop and was nicer than the pos I was originally running, liked it so much, and with a larger diameter, I decided to order one for my rear.
Can't beat that price.

Traction on dry hardpack/rocks. Rolling resistance, price, Cornering traction
Weaknesses:
? Have not ridden enough to say yet- possibly muddy conditions and not the best in very deep, loose sand
These tires stick like sh** to a wool blanket on the type of terrain I ride in mostly. They were very inexpensive, beaded up well running them tubeless, and are a fast rolling tire. Much better cornering traction than the Fire XC pro's I was running before these. I bought them because I have been running these on my 29er and loved them, but was not sure how much was due to the 29er and how much was the tire. After one three hour ride I can honestly say that I am very impressed with this tire for the money- best tire I have ran in a long time!!

Strengths:
They Hook Up on Dirt. Low Rolling Resistance for Size. Low rolling vibration and quiet on dirt. I do not think of my self as someone who cares about this. I've been riding bikes for 30yrs and feel that the best pair of tires are the ones you own... the low vibration and noise cuts back some of the tactile and auditory feed back you get from the environment. I find myself riding a little faster than before, and I'm not new to this game. Quite fun I assure you.
Weaknesses:
I've had old WTB tires where the rubber rips off the casing of the tire. At one point I vowed never to buy their tires again. Good feed back on these changed my mind
Similar Products Used:
Everything by Conti, Kenda, Maxxis, Specialized I can think of.
Bike Setup:
Turner 5 Spot, Marzocchi All Mtn, Old style 32 spoke wheels with Kings and SRAM.
Bottom Line:
Buy some tires, ride your bike, enjoy. If you are looking at something in this volume of tire, it is a good choice. They have a very different feel than other tires I have ridden, you may like it, you may not. Get out and ride.
I think all Mtb tires are too expensive, so they don't get no 5 chilis for value.
