Favorite Trail:Credit River ADM - Dundas
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Came on Bike
Strengths:Great rolling speed. Okay grip for my local conditions. No flats of any kind (265lb rider) Wearing pretty well.
Weaknesses:Can get a little squirrely in mud and in deep, wet walking path gravel
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:'08 RH Comp Disc 29'er
Bottom Line:These tires have not let me down. They have taken me for a combined 1500+km mixed trail and road riding without a single flat. Considering my weight I find that very impressive. They are down to about half of the original tread and I am going to replace them this season. Unless someone tells me otherwise I plan on buying them again.

I am mostly a fair weather rider so my reports on grip are for mainly hardpack and dry gravel. The few times I have been out in wet conditions (including a major climb up a dirt trail in a torrential downpour) the grip has been there for me. But If I made muck riding a habit I would definitely choose another tire.

5 for value since they came on the bike and 5 overall for no spills, no flats and good life (IMHO)

Strengths:This review is for the standard issue Fast Trak 29x2.0" wire bead tire.

It's a FAST roller, great all-around traction.
Weaknesses:Could use a 29x2.2" or 2.3" version for use in rocks and roots. The 2.0" width doesn't give much cushion on nasty trails. I've ridden this tire through most every condition and it even handles mud although not like a mud tire. In snotty/greasy mud this tire is no good at all....but no surprise.
Similar Products Used:Same tire in 26"....which was alot worse...the 29er version has surprised me nicely.
Bike Setup:Specialized Rockhopper Disc 29er with some mods.
Bottom Line:Great all-around tire that is fast rolling and corners well. Even the wire bead version that came on my bike (about 800 grams) is a good performer. Mine have several scrapes from rocks on the sidewalls, but no tears or punctures. Handles hardpack, loose over hardpack, pavement, gravel, moist dirt, sandy/gritty mud and the occasional snotty mud spot....but they are squirrely when you hit the slimy mud! So you have to be ready.

Great all-around tire for not too much $$$ as long as you don't ride in lots of slimy mud and/or decomposed leaves.

Favorite Trail:ft yargo winder , ga
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:came on bike
Strengths:roll well. corner well. ridden on dry and moist dirt only.
Weaknesses:none so far. don't ride in mud, so don't know about how they'd do there, but isn't a mud tire as far as i can tell from they knob height.
Similar Products Used:favorite tire is the 29" velociraptor.....not the fastest, but great grip and directional control...esp. the front tire.
Bike Setup:niner emd9, xt, am. classic wheels, hayes hyd. brakes, thomson stem/post, ritchey carbon bar, wtb seat
Bottom Line:like them, roll fast, i weigh 195 so use 45-50 psi and this is fine, haven't tried low pressures

Favorite Trail:front range
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:stock tire on bike
Strengths:Low rolling resistance on hardpack and pavement. Strong casing
Weaknesses:Not very grippy in loose conditions or when cornering. Very finicky about tire pressure. You have to pump it just full enough to prevent snakebites but not so much that you lose traction in the dirt.
Similar Products Used:Bontrager Jones XR, Specialized Captain
Bike Setup:Spec Rockhopper Comp Disc 29er with XT shifter upgrade
Bottom Line:It's a good all-around tire for pavement and light trail use. It would do great on Moab slickrock, but there are much better tires that handle a wider range of trail conditions. And don't even think about bombing on these. They don't have enough directional control for fast descents.

Favorite Trail:Bear Brook
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:Stock on bike
Strengths:FAST. Handles gravel & hardpack well. Fast on pavement. Dual Compound, Aramid bead.
Weaknesses:Terrible in the mud. Terrible w/ roots & rocks & anything wet.
Similar Products Used:Maxxis Mob.
Bike Setup:Spec. Rockhopper comp disc 29, EA70 bars, ESI Chunky grips, WTB laser V
Bottom Line:So I guess the moral of the story is different riders like different tires. Pick what suits you? I don't know. I'm not a huge fan of this tire and I'm actively searching for replacements. No idea how much this tire costs so I gave it a 3 for value rating.

Submitted by Atom Eyes a Cross Country Rider from Wilmington DE US
Date Reviewed: November 13, 2007
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:lbs
Strengths:Light weight, low rolling resistance
Weaknesses:Not the best on roots or gravel while turning.
Similar Products Used:Exiwolf, rampage, nevegal
Bike Setup:Haro Mary SS, King/Stan's wheelset
Bottom Line:I will probably be riding this tire for a while. I don't think you can get a much better balance of speed, weight, and grip. The side knobs are probably the key to this tire, they respond to being ridden agressively in the turns. They actually don't grip that great while turning if you are just cruising and don't lean the bike over. Climbing and breaking traction seems to be as good as the tires above. Did not lose any comfort coming from the bigger tires, still running 20 -22 psi just like I did in the rampage and nevegal. I have not ridden these in very dry conditions yet. I'll see how that works out next summer.

Date Reviewed: July 8, 2007
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:SkiRack, Burlington VT
Strengths:Fast roller, good traction in corners and drier conditions
Weaknesses:pack easily
Similar Products Used:Bontrager Jones
Bike Setup:MootoX 29er
Bottom Line:Bike came with Jones, asked LBS to swap for Specialized fast track because the Jones felt really slow on hardpack. Fast Track are about 600g according to Specialized. I've done a couple of races on these and they are fast. only complaint is in the mud - poor traction and they pack up quickly and take a while to shed. I've heard complaints about quick wear but didn't find it to be the case - lasted longer than most of my 26" tires (IRC Serac, Mythos). Good fast tire for drier conditions.

Purchased At:barter
Strengths:knobby edges hold a corner well
roll fast
sheds mud easily
look nice
Weaknesses:wish they made a wider version of it
Similar Products Used:wtb exiwolf
lots of 26" tires
Bike Setup:mariachi 1x9 w/ Reba
Bottom Line:These are great tires for winter and wet conditions...the Exiwolfs are great tires too, just better for dry, rocky trail conditions.
