Date Reviewed: August 6, 2002

Strengths:    Infinite adjustements, capacity, lockout.

Weaknesses:    Sh!tty little plastic lock-out knob.

Bottom Line:
I bought my bike with the regular spring and elastomer system. Salesmonkey should have told me that it wouldn't work for a Clydesdale like me. I'm 230lbs and it was rated for a 150lb rider -- I didn't know at the time of purchase (oh well). I bottomed it with ease. Tried the "firm ride kit" (for up to 180lb riders -- again, I found this out after the fact.) I bottomed it less often, but still could do it. The Fatty Air Cartridge solved all my problems, and gave me the ability to set it up to take relatively big hits, and be a little harsh on the small stuff. It's absolute Nirvana.

When I first got it, it leaked air out in about a month. LBS replaced some o-rings (probably damaged on installation) and I've not even touched it in three years.

Strengths:
Infinate adjustabilty

Weaknesses:
getting right pressure is time consuming

Bottom Line:
the fatty D cart. with the spring and MCU froze up in winter and was almost to stiff or to springy depending how you set it up . upgraded to the Fatty SL air cart and it's better than ever . it took a week or so to get the Air pressure set right but after that the damping and control is excellent . It is a bit expensive but if you ride in all year in SD and want SUSpension it works great

Fatty for a Clydesdale fatty?

I'm about 6'-2", and built like a linebacker. If I were fit, I'd be 240. But I'm not. I'm about 275. I tend to overbuild stuff, or buy 'next rung up' spec in mountain bikes - like using a Niner RIP9 for XC, or 40c tires on my road bike. I am strong - my nickname on MTB is 'the chain breaker', I'v ... Read More »

29er or Fatty for El Norte?

Hey all. I'm a perpetually intermediate rider on a 26" Giant FS here in Taos. I'm thinking about getting another bike for the endless dirt roads/back roads/old logging roads in the area, and would like to do some bikepacking as well. Picture exploring the Brazos for a few days kind of thing. ... Read More »

Any rumors of a fatty suspension fork for 135 mm hubs with dropouts?

Like my title says, has anyone heard of a planned/rumored suspension fork for the sort of fatbike within the $900 - $1300 price range that has a 135 mm front hub with dropouts that fits a 26 x 3.8 - 4.0 tire? Not like a Bluto, but forks with a straight steerer tube, so it they could be retrofitte ... Read More »

Fatty Trail

Anyone hear any inside info on the upcoming Fatty Trail? I see the Fatty frames are maked down some now, was wandering if we are close to hearing more about the "Trail" version?Read More »
