Stratos TR-1 Rear Shock

4.2/5 (5 Reviews)

Product Description

The TR-1™ is for riders seeking a high quality coil-over shock to optimize their rising rate full suspension frame designs. The TR-1 is classified as a standard, linear rate, steel shaft, coil-over shock; thus relying on the mechanical coil spring for the full spring rate. If the linkage system on your FS bike provides the progression you need, then the TR-1 will provide the rest.

Utilizing a gas charged floating piston, precision ground cylinder and hard-anodized internals, the TR-1 provides a smooth predictable stroke. External spring pre-load and rebound damping adjustment allows the TR-1 to be tuned to accommodate a wide range of riding styles.

The TR-1 is as comfortable on the race course as it is on the trail, and comes with all the same high quality parts and features as all Stratos suspension. Don't let the price fool you; the TR-1 is nothing less than high-quality, high performance, coil-over damper providing a smooth, supple, coil-over shock feel. A 10mm steel shaft, hard-anodized internal parts, and external adjustment features make the TR-1 the best value available anywhere.

In response to my previous review, stratos sent me a new shock even though I still traded in the old one, which tells a lot about their customer service! Excellent!! The new shock they sent is MUCH improved over the old one that I broke and although I have a much bigger bike now, I think the tr1 is an excellent shock. please disragard my previous rating.

Strengths:    ability to adjust rebound, easy to adjust rebound, and sturdy spring

Weaknesses:    none that I have found yet

Bottom Line:
Ok, this is not the greatest shock that is on the market but it not the worst. The biggest thing to realize is that I switched from a rock shock deluxe to this shock. The deluxe was bare boned and was a horrible shock. The stratos was better, stronger, faster.... (Insert Steve Austin sound)

The people at stratos were really great and made sure that I had the right shock for my Raleigh. This is a shock to consider if you are looking to upgrade from your current rear shock.

Strengths:    Light, looks good and cheap but.......

Weaknesses:    Not well built, Mine broke in half, the shaft snapped and came apart in mid air of a big jump, the shock exploded and I landed the jump unsuspended which broke my frame. I was a little upset.

Bottom Line:
This shock is the perfect example of "you get what you pay for" I am a bike mechanic too so I know what I'm talking about. The shaft on the shock is very thin and frail. Mine snapped in half, after taking it apart I notices the internals which are quite cheap and poorly built. Avoid this shock. It is a good value but that does'nt matter when it is broken. I had mine returned to stratos for repair and I just traded it in for a fox.

Strengths:    Well built, quality product, inexpensive replacement coil shock, plush, external rebound adjustment.

Weaknesses:    None at this time.

Bottom Line:
A great quality replacement coil shock at a great price. I plan to review this shock again in six months. This shock doesn't have all the features of the expensive Stratos shocks but the TR-1 gets the job done. If your on a budget and you prefer coil (plush) shocks, this may be the shock for you.
