The The Jupiter series of coil spring shocks are available in many sizes to fit most bikes. The Jupiter-5, with external compression and rebound adjusters, allows for fine tuning of the suspension.
Strengths: Everything about it, its very strong, never had any problems
Weaknesses: None, i just get ot rebuilt about 3-4 times a year before anything goes wrong, send it in on a rainy weekend after a couple months of riding get the seals changed, and ride it like its stolen
Bottom Line:
the bottom line is risse kicks ass, i know some people have had bad experinces with risse, but they have changed alot over the last few years, getting away from the pot smoking crew.......there products kick ass go try some out........ check out some nor cal events.......im sure they will be there
I love my shock, I didn't have any of the problems that some claim. I ride at plattekill which may not be the biggest mountain but definetly one of the most abusive(on bikes). My shock lasted a full season with no issues. I have landed some pretty big drops just plain sloppy and it never complained. I'm sending it in for service soon and I've nver had service like I get here. Hopefully it will continue.

Strengths: Umm, let me think....None.
Weaknesses: Reliability, Very fast dampening. Every warrantee shock they sent was full dampened.
Bottom Line:
The first shock lasted one day at Whistler Mountain. I sent it back and recieved the second shock. It lasted one day at Whistler. I sent it back again and the third shock was just as crappy (guts everywhere!). Now that the season is over I have a brand new shock, how long do you think that the fourth shock will last? I know that Whistler is brutal on bike equipment but this sucks! I would give anything to have my summer back. Sorry, but free would be paying too much.
I have 3 of these shocks, why, becasue they blow when used for some decent riding, now I have 3 blown jupiter 5's that I have to send back to risse, there is a fox rc in it's place, but that will be replaced with an avalanche tommorow. The first blew on a 10 foot flat to concrete drop, the second on a DH run, the third on a 15 foot to tranny drop. I weigh 200 and I use my bike for what it's meant, but I would think they would last longer. I am not the first person I know to have these problems. But when it works the shock feels plus, if you aren't going real big then go for it. Nice shock for DH too Your call, I would go avalanche for the extra cash. Risse forks rock though, I love my champ!

Strengths: It rides really great and the folks working there are very nice. It has a little more travel than Fox.
Weaknesses: The seal WILL blow if you really use the shock. Risse told me that the shocks come back about twice a year for the seal being blown. Well, that's true for me. I love how it rides, but I'll never buy another one.
Bottom Line:
I love how this shock rides. It definitely rides better than other shocks that I've used. It breaks. If you want something that needs lots of factory maintenance, this is for you. I'm gonna try Stratos next time.
Strengths: BIG- larger piggyback than a Fox RC, beefy Mountainspeed spring, larger shaft than others. CRAFTMANSHIP- great machining, looks great, good internal design and valving. TOUGH-like I said, bigger, and it has not yet blown like my Fox. MORE TRAVEL- I have the Jupiter 5 that converts SC Bullit to a claimed 8"
Weaknesses: MORE TRAVEL? yes, but it only gives a Bullit a bit over 7" on my medium frame. Risse said that they measured the travel on a large frame, I don't know if it would be different. I KNOW that I measured right, because I measured and remeasured the wheel travel. Also, I broke the bottom out bumper, but that is not a common weakness, and they will replace it for free. TIME- it takes a while to get one direct from Risse, because they are usually made to order.
Bottom Line:
Okay, this rear shock is great. despite my problems, I would HIGHLY recomend it over any other product. If you have a problem, Risse will take care of you. I dont understand how Fox can be so big and popular, but also so flimsy and unsupported. Buy a Risse, cause its the best.
Strengths: Reliable, Good Customer Service, Adjustable, built like a true racing shock inside.
Weaknesses: had one problem with a leaky seal, but that was fixed with a new seal and the other 4 never had a problem
Bottom Line:
Our application is certainly different from yours....but it still speaks mounds for this shock. I am part of the UW-Madison FormulaSAE Team...and we run these for shocks on our race car. In the past we ran the RockShox Pro Deluxe and Super Deluxe...both had problems with a shaft seal on the rebound adjustment blowing out on long runs or at high rebound dampening. No problems at all with the Risse. Also, we dynoed both sets of shocks and the Risse kicked Rock's behind on adjustment and the fact that the Risse did not cross talk as bad. I've also had both apart, and let me tell you, the inside of the Risse is a far better design for reliability and dampenign control. If you have a question about these babies, feel free to write me.

Strengths: I bought a 2000 spooky Project X straight from FTW, and the frame came with a custom Risse Jupiter 5 3" stroke shock. This thing is beefy. No problems with Risse, and I trust Spooky to set their bikes up with the best.
Weaknesses: the rebound adjustment is not quite as fast as I would like it, but then again i need SOME damping with almost 10 inches of travel.. boing... boing....BOING... Risse had to fashion a bottom-out bumper on the shaft from an old one because they increased the diameter from the old size, and did not have any larger bumpers. that is a minor problem and there have been no issues with bottom out, considering the rear wheel hits the rear of the top tube/seat tube! did I mention 10 inches of travel? wait, that's a strength.
Bottom Line:
I am glad frank the welder/Spooky specced the Risse on the X because there are few shocks out there that would handle this bike. The Risse will be dialed in soon, and I dont expect any problems. They have vastly improved the shock, so dont worry. it will take everything I can throw at it, and since it came with the frame which i got a deal on... its even better

Strengths: The same original erformance after nearly two years of unserviced Third World Kombat abuse without letdown.
Weaknesses: Still none
Bottom Line:
(Update) The shock just keeps soldiering. Its probably overkill for my freeriding application put its been problem free (reliable) and thats what counts in my book.

Strengths: Crazy plush and extremely ajustable (when not broken)
Weaknesses: This piece of sh#t does not deserve to be on my bike, this little shock ruined my whole f#ckin godd@m season, It's a weak piece of SH!T (broke twice)
Bottom Line:
This shock has only caused problems for me, i've ridden it for about 2 weeks and then it broke into 5 pieces, then i sent it back to risse and it took them over a month to send it back, and once i finally received it, there were some missing pieces, so i had to ask risse to send me the rest of the shock, that took a week and a half. You couldn't believe how happy i was to have my shock back on my bike, so i was riding alot but only urban riding and the BMX track. This sh!t @ss shock broke within 3 days of riding. I broke it at my local skate park on a f#ckin skate park. Man was i pissed off, now i own a Fox (wich doesn't brake) and i'm awaiting my shock to come back from risse (the risse is now a backup shock) I would just like to thank risse racing for ruinig my whole season
Strengths: good adjustabiility....customer service.....spring is made by Eibach...
Weaknesses: i have had this for 3and a half months i have sent this piece a crap in 3 times after two days it turns to poop..............to bad you can' swear...
Bottom Line:
its an o.k shock but you need to send it in every month or so....if you can deal with that buy it....if your impatiant buy a reliable Fox Shock.......

Strengths: Wide range of adjustability (when it works)
Weaknesses: It rarely works
Bottom Line:
Crappy shock. It blew out on me in the first few days of riding when I did a big old 8" (that's inches, not feet) drop. It got rebuilt for free, but now the damping gets all messed up after a few DH runs. It will either be super slow rebound with no change in adjustment until the 1st 1 or 2 clicks, or exactly the opposite - super fast with no change in adjustment until the last 2 clicks.
On top of this, I know of at least 2 other guys who've had nothing but problems with this shock also, and I only know 3 guys total who have used this shock. My customer service experience with Risse wasn't too bad, but my two buddies have had nothing but problems dealing with Risse.
I wanted to like this shock - I had heard good things about it - but my experience with it has been very bad.
Strengths: lots of adjustability.old rock shox had none.very durable.
Weaknesses: none so far.
Bottom Line:
what a difference an adjustable shock makes on this bike.i had recently considered upgrading to a new bike kona stinky deelux, foes weasel,etc..but with my upgrades to this bike it flat ass flies downhill,a little heavy uphill, but i dont plan on winning cross country races on this rig! i recommend this shock to all.
