Strengths: Adjustable, light, responsive, sensitiveWeaknesses: Short schrader valveBottom Line: This is a replacement for the RockShox Ario-2R that was OE on my 2009 Scott Spark 35. That shock was never consistent, and on its best day was barely passable. I chose the Manitou Swinger 4 way Air because I wanted the adjustability, it was too good a deal to pass up and I'm incurably cheap. Fitting it was a challenge as it is longer that the original and the bushings are ever so slightly tighter. Swapped the suspension links right for left to get the eye-to-eye length close and polished the eye sleeves for a proper fit. Pumped it up to about 90psi, left the air volume adjuster out all the way and hit the mountain. Holy Mother of God this shock is amazing. If we can all agree that the function of suspension is to maintain contact between the tires and the trail, this shock is state of the art. The rear no longer chatters over rough trails, there is no bottom perceptible, compression damping seems velocity sensitive and it pedals uphill with no drama and no need to lockout. It is as good (maybe better) as the Fox RP23 on my kid's bike but more adjustable. Could anyone ask for more? OK, one little thing: the schrader threads are too short to actually work with most shock pumps. I'll bet they've fixed that by now, but I picked up a Topeak right angle adapter valve for my pump that works just fine.
