Strengths: Cheeep NOS, fits shorter eye to eye bikes, strong.Weaknesses: none so farBottom Line: I got this off eBay for $51 NOS. Did a little research and seems to be OEM on Cannondale V's from about 3 years ago. This happened to fit my bike perfectly, the OEM shock was a joke. Not many bikes these days have a 5.5" eye to eye and 1" travel.
I really like this shock. Does what it was meant to do, and does it well. In all fairness, I don't deliberately go out and try to break my bike, but I do have some fun.
Good, solid and works. If you can get one of these NOS ones for cheep, get two while you're at it.

Strengths: All machined parts, good tolerances, good seals,Weaknesses: No compression damping, Limited spring rates, No aftermarket tuning/shim kit, Fox will not give out any info(IFP setting, etc.) so racers can rebuild/revalve and get back up-and-running on raceday. blah blah blahBottom Line: Setup the suspension up for your riding style/weight; you will ride waayy faster. Don't use a Vanilla RX, you'll end up sitting on your butt waiting for the mailman...

Strengths: Great dampening, even stroke, does not bottom out (when adjusted right).Weaknesses: Needs a little knowledge when set up. Get the instructions off of the fox website.Bottom Line: This is a great shock for XC bikes. The shock must be adjusted correctly, NO MORE THAN 2 TURNS on the preload adjust before upgrading/downgrading spring weight. That's all folks. Otherwise, if you do not follow these directions, you will be in the condition of the blokes below who blew their shocks.
It works well. the current model is the RC one, and it is the top of the line. you would probably be purchasing that one, as these are used and far and few between. If you find one, send it to fox to service it, and it will function like a new shock.
Worth having.

Strengths: Works ok but no adjustation.Weaknesses: I hit a jump and when i landed the piston thing went through the dampening thing and it stayed in the bottom out position so i dont think they are built very strong.Bottom Line: Not a very good shock go for higher line shocks.

Strengths: Dependable, plush on the small and medium bumps. The piggyback looks cool.Weaknesses: Packs a little on the big hits. No compression dampingBottom Line: This shock came with my bike 5 years ago. Never has been serviced, never even weeped oil on the shaft, its been a very solid shock for me. i don't do big drops but i used to bottom the shock out about 3 to 5 times a ride and its still going strong. Lately the compression damping is getting a bit harsh and the shock alway packed on the the big hits but over all i am happy with this shock

Strengths: Looks good w/ the piggy backWeaknesses: Ok i know i submited a review earlier but since then i have broken 2 of these things. Both i broke in the same spot. What is up with that? so there goes 300 dollars down the drain and all i am left with is pile a crap. Sure it looks good but only use these things to put on ur wall cause thats all they are good for. I am switching to Stratos instead of Fox incraporated.Bottom Line: They suck and if i ever found one on the street i would burn it and roast marshmallows in the flame. Save urself some time and get a Stratos or an Avalanche. If it would let me i would give it no hotdogs!

Strengths: Its DH worthy, has good adjustments, nice and beefy, love the piggyback, and love how peeps look at u.Weaknesses: I dunno if it was just mine but i hit a 6 foot jump to slope and hit a table top in the air and when i landed the rebound knob just snapped in half.Bottom Line: Its a sweet shock but FOX needs to give u some kinda warranty on damage b/c i had to get a new freakin shock and they aren't the cheapest thing, but i think FOX is a good company and the only other thing id rather have is an avalache in the rear but my wallet doesn't agree w/ me.

Strengths: Very smooth rebound. Seamless travel. Lightweight. For the price this is a no brainer.Weaknesses: Strength and durablity are supposedly questionable. Personally speaking mine has been flawless.Bottom Line: If you have an endless supplyn of money, look elsewhere. But if not, then this is the rear shock to get.

Strengths: Smooth travel
Build qualityWeaknesses: Lack of compression damping (I know, buy an RC!)Bottom Line: A LOT better control than the stock Vanilla and smoother travel than the Stratos.
I'll probably try to replace it with a Vanilla RC at some point. Expecting a single compression damping setting to work for all conditions and variable travel probably isn't realistic! The rebound adjustment covers a good range.
With appropriate spring and damping rates, this is a great shock.

Strengths: I broke the shock, but I still say it`s a very good one. It is progressive, so you always have a safety when reaching a big jump or stone. It really works perfectly.Weaknesses: I broke it. The aluminium seemed not to be strong enough, oil came out during a fast downhill. But I think this was unique.Bottom Line: I can recommand this shock to everybody who doesn`t really care about weight, and everybody who wants a shock that works in the way it should work!!

Strengths:
SOOOO plush and quite adjustableWeaknesses:
OEM only :(Bottom Line: This shock is great...especially on the lightweight bike setup I have. I have only bottomed it once and that was a HUGE waterbar after a steep at Plattekill. Since I ride different downhills at home, I like that I can easily adjust the shock to suit the terrain. Even the big guys at the races like to ride my bike around. It has been labled plush and cadillac by many who have taken it out for a spin.

Plush, Effective rebound Damping adjustment, Smooth, PIggybackWeaknesses:
Easily botom even with a heavy spring, Bent 3 Spring collars, no compression adjustment, bent the mounting bolts, leaks oil from the robound clicker, gritty feel of rebound clicker after alot of use, Blew out the compression dampingBottom Line: This is and OK shock. I've had it for 7 months and because of its constant bottoming i've folded 2 super V frames in half (firts person ever!), Sems like theres no compression damping anymore, rebound cliker feels gritty after a while, its really plush, but is you run any rebound damping and you hit a huge bump, the shock makes a sucking sound on the return, buy a stratos or RCR instead
