Lightweight 29er wheels are hard enough to come by, let alone wheels that are UST approved. The Easton EA90 XC 29" Disc Wheelset has both of these attributes and both are what makes it such a great pair of wheels. The easiest comparison is made to their Haven 29er wheels since that's where Easton got their start with UST technology. However, the EA90 XC 29" Wheels are about 100 grams lighter and they have a nice splash of red ano to pretty things up a bit. With the UST logo, the EA90 XC 29" wheels are guaranteed tubeless compatible, and possess all of the shaping and structural requirements to meet the stringent standards. In practical terms, you can seat a UST tire on these wheels by hand and with only a floor pump -- no mess and no fuss. Creating a UST approved rim is tricky, but Easton found a great way to get around the task of eliminating the spoke penetrations in the outer wall of the rim. The straight-pull Sapim double-butted spokes are placed in the hub in a 3-cross pattern as usual, but the nipple does double duty. It's both internally and externally threaded. When the spokes are drawn into the nipple it is simultaneously threading into the inner wall of the rim. They can be trued exactly like a wheel with standard nipples. Only the included valve stems pierce the entire cross-section of the rim. Easton created new hubs for the EA90 XC 29" Disc Wheels. Both hub shells are machined from aluminum and anodized red. The front is available in two versions -- standard quick release or 15mm thru-axle. Please Note: The 15mm version can be converted to quick release with the appropriate parts from Easton. However, the QR version can NOT be converted to 15mm. The rear hub is configured for a quick release and has a 135mm OLD. Aluminum skewers are included where applicable. The rims are 19mm wide on the inside to allow the fitment of 1.95 - 2.1" tires for cross-country racing and riding, and both hubs run on sealed cartridge bearings for durability and easy service.
