Date Reviewed: March 15, 2012

Strengths:    Smooth, precise, strong and just the right amount of flex.

Weaknesses:    Lack of color choices unlike Niner's forks.

Bottom Line:
This is my first rigid setup since my Trek 820 Mountain Track from the early 90s and I gotta say I wish forks were like this in the beginning. This fork came on my Surly Karate Monkey and I was considering switching out the fork with a suspension fork before I even got the bike on the trail. After my first ride I felt a little beaten up, but I got used to it and now I don't want to switch. It keeps the bike light-er weight and tracks straight. I heard that this fork is different from the earlier KM forks, being that the earlier ones were very harsh. I don't know for sure, but if you haven't tried this one for 2012, you should, it's great.

Ogre/Karate Monkey

So I have an Ogre and a Karate Monkey. I had them both set up as mtbs with gears; then I thought that maybe that was a little silly as it was like having two bikes the same (albeit slightly different gearing!!). I have now changed the setup of the Ogre and I am now running it as a Drop bar 29'er ( ... Read More »

Karate Monkey tire clearance

I have a 2013 KM and I tried a 2.4 On One Chunky Monkey tire on my rear Stan's Arch EX rim. the axle is slammed into the dropout with a 32x20 single-speed drivetrain and the tire clears the inside of the chainstays just barely under mellow pedaling conditions. when I pedal hard or corner, I can feel ...
