Date Reviewed: March 15, 2012

Strengths:    Smooth, precise, strong and just the right amount of flex.

Weaknesses:    Lack of color choices unlike Niner's forks.

Bottom Line:
This is my first rigid setup since my Trek 820 Mountain Track from the early 90s and I gotta say I wish forks were like this in the beginning. This fork came on my Surly Karate Monkey and I was considering switching out the fork with a suspension fork before I even got the bike on the trail. After my first ride I felt a little beaten up, but I got used to it and now I don't want to switch. It keeps the bike light-er weight and tracks straight. I heard that this fork is different from the earlier KM forks, being that the earlier ones were very harsh. I don't know for sure, but if you haven't tried this one for 2012, you should, it's great.

2011 Surly Karate Monkey for $1000? Or 2013 Kona Unit for 1000?

Hi Everyone, I realize that there are plenty of threads comparing other years' models of these bikes, but my LBS is offering me a 2011 karate monkey for $1000 flat and from what I've read that would be a great deal. Besides the fact that the 2013 Kona Unit (also offered for $1000) looks nicer and ... Read More »

Karate Monkey over Unit?

I'm sure these have been compared before, and I know both bikes are well reviewed by those who own them. I'm sure I'd enjoy either one of these bikes. My dilemma is actually that my preferred LBS isn't a Kona dealer, but can order me a Karate Monkey. The MSRP on the Monkey is a couple hundred higher ... Read More »
