Bottom Line:
I've hit up a wide varity of riding on the new 55RC3 during the 4-6 weeks I've had it incl high speed singletrack, tech stuff like roots and drops and quite a bit of mild climbing. It's totally capable and real sweet to ride not to mention a breeze to set up. A few clicks on the compression and rebound, <2-3psi in the preload (65kg-70kg rider) and it's real supple, super smooth and ramps up awesome towards the end of its travel without having to add anything to the second valve. Overall a really well balanced fork without a multitude of adjustments and fussing. The extra weight shouldn't be a major concern since the forks application is leaning towards freeride/all mountain. In addition I've been regularly checking the fork for play developing in the bushings or axle, and oil or air leakage. And happy to report none of the above.
