Stiff, no deflection off of rocks. Easy to adjust, set it to recommended settings and forget it.
At first I wasn't sure this is the fork I needed. My bike has 4.5" of rear travel so the TALAS X with the 90-110-130mm settings was right for the amount of travel I needed. I trail ride in the North Georgia and Tennessee mountains. Climbed in 90, bombed in 130 and trail rode in 110mm. Fork performed flawlessly and was easy to set-up. If you want the best, spend the money for a FOX.

I love these forks as they are just fit and forget.The travel adjuster is easy to use but sometimes it doesnt compress down to 90mm before the climb.Both my mates 05 fox talas rl and my 07 talas 32 x started leaking oil from the wiper seals after a trip at afan.So if you live in dry dusty places you may wanna think against a fox. Apart from that they are pretty cool.

I am SO glad that I bought this fork. Period! Terralogic is unreal... I've never been able to climb like this with a front suspension... it's super plush when you get into the rough stuf, but start climbing and you've got a perfect balance between a rigid fork and a suspension fork; the Terralogic valving engages just enough to soak up the stuff that would throw your line, yet cuts out the bob you get from mashing up a hill. And to top it all off, just flick the lever to change the travel to 130mm and head back down the hill. Absolutely amazing. Worth every penny.

I previously had a Marz Comp ETA. I loved the ETA lockout feature and used it all the time because I like to stand and crank. When I read about the Talas X inertia valve I had to try it. The Talas X does everything as advertised. Locks out solid and still is ready to soak up anything I run into. I use the travel adjust (90,110,130) a lot depending on the trails I am riding. The intertia valve threshold is adjustable and makes a big difference on how easily the fork unlocks and how long it stays unlocked. The fork is expensive but I am over the $$ I spent and now just enjoying a damn good fork.
The bottom line is that if you want a fork that is XC racer stiff and rigid until you hit something, get the Talas X, it is amazing technology! When the fork locks I can actually feel the bike surge forward when under power (not joking kids!)
I give 4 chilis for value just because it IS expensive!

uhhh... no lockout but that makes things confusing and subtracts from the clean look of the bike

Wish it had a remote lock out or setting selector on the handle bar. Makes you think you can scream down hills at break neck speed and forget your bones can be broken by sudden stoppage:(

These forks are on the 07 SJ expert FSR. I have seen a lot of forks over the years but these just seem spot on for what I like to ride.(rolling hills short fast down hills) I had a great first day ride yesterday with the shocks and today went by just as fast. For me climbing was best selecting the 100mm setting and then depending on what I was screaming down I went for the 120mm for mod trails and for three foot drops I went full open. Control was spot on in the turns and the big stone single track. I even went for a cruse thru town and hit long sections of european coble stone, which I avoid like the plague when Im on a hard tail. I wish these came with a remote lock out as given the terrain around the house I do a lot of reaching down from time to time. And as I always say "Lance Armstrong could kill me riding a Huffy so why cry about the small stuff on a shock that is light years ahead of where we were say 10-15 years ago" photo found at http://siegrist.us/media/fsr_1jpg
