Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:The riding.
Weaknesses:Overedited => too short, esp. for the money.
Similar Products Used:None yet.
Bottom Line:Well that's it, I'm getting a freeride.

If you've never seen or done the stuff before it's pretty impressive to watch. Some parts of the film show too many split-second clips of too many riders landing one and only one drop each with nothing technical leading up to or coming after it. Talk about desensitization. The overall length is only 40 minutes; we can afford to take some extra time and watch some of these guys riding real stretches of trails.

Speaking of which Wade and Richie are fluid. They just kinda cruise casual and make jumps out of anything. You can totally see how much smoother they are than some of the others. I really dug that stretch in Turkey, and the song there was pretty cool just by the fact that it was modern and 3rd-world at the same time.

I didn't think the rest of the music was uniformly bad, but some of it did suck. The music on the shore clip ruined what could (might/should/conceivably under the constraint that Wade was splotched all over the place/etc.etc.) have been the highlight of the film.

Bottom line, I've watched it a half dozen times across this one month and it's solidified my decision to get a freeride bike. I've got a lot of full-feature movies I haven't watched half as much and you won't find me buying any lightsabers, either.

Date Reviewed: October 4, 2001
Favorite Trail:Any DH without tech bits in it
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $20.00
Purchased At:TC's Bike Barr
Strengths:Awesome freeride sections by the one and only Wade Simmons!!! Jaw dropping trials by Ryan Leech!!! Nice soundtrack accompaning the video, with hard rock rap group "One Minute Silence" at the start of the video with "A Waste of Things to Come", and in Peru with "Stuck Between a Hard Place with a White Face". Other highly recommended riders such as Richie Schley and Brett Tippie deserve a mention.
Weaknesses:Not ENOUGH freeriding featured by Wade Simmons (they should feature the whole video on him instead!!! Damn he's awesome!!!). Many sections such as the "Kranked 3" arcade game sections could have been cut out. The video is WAY too short for the price you pay. Big names such as Steve Peat, Brian Lopes, Eric Carter, S.Palmer only appear on screen for about less than 6 seconds (section on Steve Peat consisted of him jumping off a building and that was it). Video quality was a bit dodgey in some sections for the cost the video cost to make. Also NOT ENOUGH Exotic Locations!!!
Similar Products Used:Dirty Tricks and Cunning Stunts, Kranked 4 - Search for the Holy Trail, Kranked 2 - Tales from the Krypt.
Bike Setup:Trek VRX (Fox Vanilla R)
Maz Z2
XTR thoughout
Sella Italia Geniune Gel Ti
Sun Mammoth Rims
IRC Backcountry tires and IRC tubes
Oury Grips
Bottom Line:Overall a nicely constructed video (minus the stupid pathetic arcade game storyline). Top riders could have been featured more instead of various riders which their names weren't even given a mention. Video should be more focused on Wade Simmons, Richie Schley, Ryan Leech, Steve Peat, Brian Lopes... You get the point since the Kranked series are suppose to be "freeride" videos.

Bottom Line:Quite an amazing film. Nice choice of destinations . Riders in the film are freeriding heros, they all go big. 16mm filming has high resolution. Overall, a great entertainment.

Particularly liked the sessions from Whistler, Northshore, France and Rossland (in California?). Nice camera angles on a lot of the shots.

Date Reviewed: March 18, 2001
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:The filthiest riding. Great riders. High production quality.
Weaknesses:Many sequences cut too rapidly so the vid doesn't flow and has an annoying flickery MTV feel. Tedious techno and trance soundtrack, ugh! Animation and bizarre dress up sequences an utter failure and waste minutes that a vid this brief can't afford to waste. Never thought I'd say it, but there are too many gnarly drops... they become ho hum.
Similar Products Used:Kranked II, Headliners, Chainsmoke.
Bike Setup:freeride hardtail
Bottom Line:The film makers got it wrong. Too much flickery fast cuts like fanning through a bike mag really fast. That together with the techno sounds creates a funky, exciting vid but it has no soul. Too slick. The animation and dressups are ridiculous. I agree with the Scot, with the riders, locations and budget the film makers had they could have made an all time classic. They missed their chance because they tried to be too clever. What a waste. It includes a lot of unforgettable action (love that vertical drop to tree tackle) but is let down by stupid irrelevent sections all the way through and way too fast editing.

Bike Setup:Hard Core DH
Bottom Line:These film makers suck! With all the great riders they had to film with they didn't do any of them justice. The majority of films out there are made with half the budget and are twice as good. The second Kranked film was the best they could do. I don't need to waist my time watching this film again so I use it as a door stop now that I've stopped useing it to cure my insomnia. Anything will sell with a Fox logo on it, if you buy this film your just another sheep being herded by a Fox.

Weaknesses:but the music still sucks. and this idea of a kid playing a videogame with some leather clad DH'ing skeleton. some scenes end in "level completes"? very, very stupid in my opinion.

Purchased At:Airbomb...I think
Strengths:Great quality from top to bottom, from the high quality cinematography to the crazy locations (Chile, France, etc...) Oh yeah, the music is by far the best I've heard on any of these types of videos.
Weaknesses:Ummmm...maybe the chick sequence...though it's pretty cool too if you slow-mo you'll see a shot of 3 babes riding naked in the desert...yum Also another weakness is if you watch this one first and then buy another video released before this one, you'll have the feeling you wasted your money. This one outshines them all.
Similar Products Used:Shift, Kranked II, North Shore Extreme vol I,II and III

Bottom Line:Having broken my arm I was stuck at home bummin' for about 3 months. To get my biking fix I started snatching up all the crazy vids I could get my broken mits on. I wasted alot of money on the NSX stuff...really poor in comparison. This is BY FAR the best one I've seen of the ones mentioned above. AWESOME!!! Really high quality stuff. It has a great diversity in locations, jumping around the globe from country to country. If Siskell were still around even he would give this one an enthusiastic TWO THUMBS UP!!! Weaknesses:Too short
Some of the music
the computer graphics
Similar Products Used:NSX series
Bottom Line:This is a really cool video to have. I bought it a couple of months ago and have probably watched it 15 or 20 times since then. It definitly is something to watch before riding to get psyched! I like the drops they do, and some of the bikes are mad tricked out! The trials rider in the England section and the dude who was hopping on the rails are awesome! I think that the coolest segments are the Nelson, North Shore, Whistler, and Rossland ones. They were the most "real" biking. I do have a few complaints though. First of all I think that its kinda short. They definitly could have spent more time at each place. Also, some of the continuous drops get kinda boring after awhile (England). There could have been more urban riding aside from the superheroes. Although I would give the soundtrack an A- some of the music blew! And what was up with the chicks in Utah!!??? Anyways, I think that this is one of the better videos I have seen (definitly beats NSX by having been filmed on 16mm film). There is a decent amount of diversity (at least in location). It kinda reminds me of a Warren Miller movie. Totally awesome movie, go out and get it!!!

Strengths:Variety of environment on film-Turkey, Peru, England, France, Canada, all over US; soundtrack; mad jumps
Weaknesses:Didn't dig the the whole "plot" thing which involved less than the best computer animation; should have substituted interviews w/ the riders rather than mediocre computer animation
Bottom Line:Buy this video and you win. I've spent more time watching this video than biking and still am not sick of it. The jumps are ungodly. The video is full of downhilling w/ jumps, has a little trialing and a little urban assualt. The sound track leaves little to be desired, and is extrememly original. Strengths:Total inspiration, I work in a shop and watch it about 5 times a day so I've seen it over 200 times and it is still sickening. Soundtrack is timed beautifully with the footage and the footage is awesome, locations are awesome can't say enough about it. It is just all biking (except for the girl part) which is pretty cool because must other movies have the drinking part, the fighting part, the puking part but this is just full on biking.
Weaknesses:It is cool that it had a ladies section but yes it would have been better if they were just riding like everyone else instead of the dressing up bit.
Similar Products Used:The full trilogy. Expendable Youth 1/2, Crusty Demons series, Headliners.
Bike Setup:Quit your jobs and work in a bike shop so you can experience every aspect of biking.
Bottom Line:Go out and buy it! Or just go to your local bike shop and check it out, demand that they let you experience it, and then buy it, I'm not telling you too, just saying you will because it is sick. And chances are you'll end up buying a VPS, RM6-9 or a Santa Cruz Bullit, (I fell for the Bullit) because you see guys dropping of building, transports, school buses, cliffs and bill boards and you'll start thinking you can do it to. Well you can...go out and ride and don't stop until you've scared yourself, and after that come hang with the boys at AO bikes/boards in Huntsville.

It definitely is the next level of bike vid. The Turkey and Peru footage is interesting but nothing comes close to the B.C. scenes in Rossland, Nelson, Vancouver & Whistler. I hate to toot the horn but....CANADIANS RULE FREERIDING!!!.
Everyone should own this whether they freeride or not. Great trailbuilding ideas, excellent reality check on your own skill level. It was a great value before it was on sale!

Favorite Trail:boulder City MT.bike park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:It's a fox video
Weaknesses:goofy video Idea
Similar Products Used:all other video's
Bike Setup:Santa Cruz Buillit,XT,raceface,haye's,Mr,T
Bottom Line:This video is sik. there are more drop's and jumping than I've ever seen in a video. this purely define's the way one should ride when they've got spare time on there hand's. Definatley don't try this at home, type of video.. get this vid if you'r into this type of riding..
