Submitted by Richard a Downhiller from Gloucs
Date Reviewed: March 4, 2004
Favorite Trail:Lecky Hill
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Sometimes has good reviews of things that you are likely to buy
Weaknesses:Lots of boring articles on trial riding, 4X, jumping and the street sceen. To much aimed at the teenage market. If I wanted to read this rubbish I would buy a BMX mag
Similar Products Used:MBR and What Mountain Mike (by the same publisher as MBUK but better!!)
Bike Setup:SC Heckler, Hope, XT etc..
Bottom Line:Used to be a great mag but now is trying to appeal to a younger market of spokey kids. Dont know why they have deserted the old skool as we are the ones with the $$$$

Favorite Trail:
Box Hill
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Imformitive articles are written for adults to be read by adults.
Weaknesses:
Dropping issues every now and then
Similar Products Used:
MBR
Total Bike
MBUK
Bike Setup:
Specialized FSR Comp
Mavic 517s hope hubs, xtr group
easton carbon bars and post

Bottom Line:Excellent magazine. Lets you know whats good and whats not in a readable manner. Does not treat its readers as though we're all under 15 as most do in th UK. Hopefully this magazine will go from strength to strength.

Submitted by jonathan a Weekend Warrior from St Helens, England
Date Reviewed: December 9, 1999
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Well written, informative, aimed at true mountain bikers, not play bikers or kids who next month are into somthing else. Accurate equipment reveiws
Weaknesses:
poor subscription service (you recive it days after its out in the shops)
Similar Products Used:
All the rest
Bike Setup:
Marin Pinemountain, LX/XT, Judy sl's, synchros, control tech, ritchey, mavic, geax
Bottom Line:The only decent bike mag in thr UK, plus I got a free pair of De-feet socks from an offer in the first issue. I subsribed afetr issue one, it is that good. Much like the old MTB pro, and there are a few names (Brant Richards, John Stevenson) that keep cropping up. Now where have I heard those names before? Only 4 stars because by the time I get my copy through the post, I've already read it in WH Smiths

Submitted by Bikecrash a Weekend Warrior from Wellington, NZ
Date Reviewed: November 17, 1999
Duration Product Used:
tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:
reviews, writing, maps, ads, glossy, good quality, big size
Weaknesses:
maps only for UK (natch), expensive, no A-Z bike list at back
Similar Products Used:
MBUK (for spotty young boys/children/oiks) MBR (OK) MBA (good previews/reviews)
Bottom Line:MMB, as other reviews state, is more adult (20+!) in tone than other UK mags, which is good, but it still has the same 'jokey' photos which are kept to a sensible number, unlike MBUK, and MBR to a lesser degree, which are a bit tits 'n lager mags. The reviews are good, but it needs an A-Z list at the back of bikes and bits. The pull out maps would be great if they had an utility here! How about maps of places visited like the recent trip to Cuba? Excellent quality print and pictures, why are US mags which are full of ads on every page such sh!te quality?

Date Reviewed: November 8, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Ceasers Camp / Farnham
Duration Product Used:
2 Years
Strengths:
Informative, Good articles, Great read, Doesn't consetrate on one area or price bracket, Adult orriateted
Weaknesses:
Could be bigger. All routes tend to be in Scotland/Wales and not where the majority of the population lives.
Similar Products Used:
MBR, MBUK, MBI
Bike Setup:
99 Spec FSR XC (Great bike - crap Air shock, and own brand components)
Bottom Line:This is by far the best magazine for 20+ riders in the UK. The others seem to concetrate on jumping and this weeks trends and are moving towards BMXing every month. Every one who rides properly must read this mag at least once. You will read it every month after that.

Submitted by Steve a Cross-Country Rider from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada
Date Reviewed: September 13, 1999
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Bottom Line:I have bought every issue of this magazine since it started and have not missed one. I really love the repair section of the magazine and the way they spent a little extra on the coated paper. If you're working on your bike and you get some grease on one of the pages you can just wipe it clean with a damp cloth. I collected all the magazines and now have an excellent repair manual. The magazine also does a good job of keeping all classes of rider in mind. They do product testing on some everyday bikes for the average person and some of the elite products as well. I recommend this magazine to everyone. It is however, a little expensive but I realize that it has a long way to travel to get to Canada and that is also why all the issues I get are a month behind. It is still worth the $10/month I spend. If anyone from MMB is reading this, please tell everyone there to keep up the good work and congratulations on a very great magazine.
