Strengths:
Very detailed
Covers a huge number of trails
Easy-to-follow mapsWeaknesses:
a bit out of date (1993 -it is the second edition, so I don't know if a more recent edition has been written)Bottom Line: I had the privilege of vacationing in Alberta last summer. I immediately searched out this book rather than finding trail maps at each new destination. The book was a huge help for someone unfamiliar with the area.
I rode in Canmore, Banff, and Jasper and didn't even use half of the book. There are also trail guides for Kananaskis country, BC, and the Can/US border area.
Each trail is described in detail: type of trail, rating(technical and physical), how crowded the trail usually is with other users, distance, estimated time, elevation, who owns the land, how to get to the trailhead, and when it is in season.
The maps that are included are easy to follow. I suggest photocopying them to take with you.
Some people will get a kick out of the pictures alone -some older ones from the mid-'80's I would say.
If you are going on a trip to AB/BC and you are into riding (why else would you be reading this), then definitely look for this book. If you are not going on a trip to the Canadian Rockies, start planning one right now-you will not regret it (unless you plan it for the winter and were hoping to do some riding, but then you could always ski/snowboard).BTW, to make it easier to find, the author's are: Doug Eastcott and Gerhardt Lepp.
