Strengths:    covers a wide range of bicyle componitry.

Weaknesses:    not detailed enough for real world use.

Bottom Line:
not as good as i had expected. I am a certified marine engine mechanic so i am familiar with technical publications. good for novices and tool referencing. I paid to much for the book but still not a bad book to have. the real technical sections such as cranksets could have more photos, though the section on wheels is good.

Strengths:    Nice detailed pictures for simple minded people like me.

Bottom Line:
Coming in at a whopping 223 pages, this book covers everything the beginning mechanic will need. It's broken down into 13 chapters and 3 appendixes. The chapters are basic bicycle maintenance, tires and tubes, hubs/rear sprockets, wheel truing, pedals/cranks/bottom brackets, chains, derailleur systems, rim caliper brake systems, caliper brake systems, handlebars/stems/saddles/seatposts, headsets, bike washing, and on the side repairs. The 3 appendixes are the Park suggested tool list, glossary of terms, and recommended torque for components.

Overall I enjoy the book. The pictures are big and detailed (but not so detailed you don't want to read it). Big triangle caution signs that say 'don't forget this' or 'do this first for ease of installation.'
It covers road and mountain but I feel like it's geared for mountain; that may be because I'm partial to mountain bikes but whatever. Overall I give this book a solid review.

If you work in a shop, this probably isn't the book for you. But if you're just learning to wrench on your own, it's perfect!
