Gives a lucid and objective description of proper cycling methods and choice of cycling equipment with proper usage. | | Weaknesses: | With the advent of new cycling equipment and different cycling genres that are now more popular, i.e.- cyclocross, XC, downhilling, Forester only focuses on commuting and touring.
Though I am a cycling advocate, and wish roadways were better constructed and traffic laws were clearly enforced, his stance on sharing the road can become tiresome despite its relevance. | | Similar Products Used: | There is no equivalent | | Bike Setup: | 2000 Schwinn Peleton w/ Rolf Vector Comp's, Kool Stop BP's, and an engine that constantly needs a tune-up. | | Bottom Line: | Forester needs to publish an updated edition to warrant a 5-star rating, so he'll have to settle for 4 stars until I see a new edition. Otherwise, there is no other traffic riding description as comprehensive unless you fell under the tutiledge of an old urban bike messenger or hard-core bike commuter.

The index is insufficient. The information on bike technology is rather dated. Mountain bikes are completely ignored as the author doesn't seem to view them as legitimate. The author's rants become rather redundant and tiresome after awhile, but luckily they are not caustic to listen to. | | Similar Products Used: | Sloane's book of Bicycling, Dummies guide to Bicycling | | Bike Setup: | N/A | | Bottom Line: | This book is meant for roadies only. MTBR's will find this book worthless. This book is best for learning road bike technique.
