Date Reviewed: December 30, 2006
Favorite Trail:Mem. Park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Gift
Strengths:This thing has everything. I mean everything! Anything that is a mechanical component of a bicycle is in this series. It has chapters for every part of a bicycle and even has a separate volume just for suspension.
Weaknesses:No index. The chapter on stems and bars does not include info on threadless stems??? Either the author thought they were too easy to figure out to take up space or he hates them. This is odd because the book was published only 3 years ago. Also, if you want to put this book into effective practice, bike specific tools are necessary.
Similar Products Used:The Internet
Bike Setup:MTB
Bottom Line:I was leaning towards getting the Parktool big blue book, but my dad suprised be with Barnetts as a Christmas gift. I'm sure this thing is way better than what Park put out. It comes in a four volume set. Each volume focuses on a separate area of a bike. It is easy to find info and you'll never search the web for repair help again. This book is expensive. It's prices range from $75 to $125 depending on where you buy. However, there is more than your money's worth of info in this book. He even tells you which tools to use. After using this product, once frequent stops to the LBS for help or repairs wil become few and far between. This book will pay for itself by alowing you to do repair and maintinence yourself. Buy this book!
