Ritchey ZED Race Older Tires

3.33/5 (3 Reviews)

Product Description

Z.E.D. Race | The Ritchey ZED Race tire is our first new pure race tire since the Racing K was introduced in 1988. Shorter, stiffer VFA knobs rip into any trail for a ride that maximizes control and speed. Increased spacing between knobs provides optimum mud clearance.

Strengths:    Durabilty (2.1) size. Grip. Slow wear. Good on wet roots. I can trust them. But be sure they work the same for you before you fly into a wet rooted singletrack.

Weaknesses:    None so far afer almost a full season and second piar are mounted. Slight loss of grip when half of treadlife is gone but this can only be normal because the nobs get rounded off.

Bottom Line:
I only do a couple fun category races a year but do a lot of heavy hobbie riding and I am 6ft 3in. This is the first set of tires that worked great BUT never pinched on local trails or alp rides. The German online compnay sent me the ZED Kevlar for the rear and the Zed Race (picture above) for the front and it was a great tip. The paddles on the normal ZED are better for rear tire use

Strengths:    cool blue sidewalls

Weaknesses:    sizing

Bottom Line:
I pinched flatted 3 times on the same day w/ these. I'm not sure why they were so soft. The size of the tires seemed a bit small for a 1.9 size compared to other that I have tried. I wish the industry would standardize on these measurements (It's just like the car industry).

Anyone using the Ritchey ZED Race 29er (700x42) tire? I'm looking for an actual width as I'm trying to determine if it will fit my Vicious cross fork/Spot CX frame. Bikeman lists the tire as "low profile". The Ritchey website doesn't list any specs for this one. Any help is appreciated. Thanks---Read More »
