Strengths:
GRIP!! GRIP!!
hard to puncture,
boy they grip like there is no tomorrow
Weaknesses:
none...a bit heavy though. but they are DH tires you know.
Similar Products Used:
Kujo DH, El Gatto
Bike Setup:
Cannondale Super V 400, Sun TCC/Chris King/Missle up front and El Gatto at the back
Bottom Line:This tire rocks. A pity IRC kinda replaced it with Kujo DH...but trust me, the combination of Missle upfront and El Gatto at the back, best grip ever. My friend uses it to play street riding ie: playing trails on street... and most of them use it. damn good. a bit sluggish for XC, but I'ved used it once and by God, I swear it gripped better then my stinking MythosXC. what a pity you can't find it anymore.

I really like this tire, the grip is excellent especially on rocks. The look of the tire is very cool ,I really like the red color. Snake bites don't come easy
with this tire, I only have had one on a metal piece sticking out of the ground,
just bad luck I guess. The wait of the tire is good for a DH-tire, and it doesn't ride to heavy.

As an all round racing DH tire, they suck, except for fire roads. But, for a XC front tire, they rule. The missile corners excepionally well, better than any other xc tire. They're a fun free riding tire, but keep out of the mud and off of the wet roots.

Bottom Line:

I slammed these tires on my '97 Trek Y-5, to replace the stock Bontrager Jones tires. IRC Missles grip so damn hard, and I have mine pumped up to 60 psi. On a recent downhill run at Grant Park in San Jose, I reached 60 mph on these things, and the tires give was so predictable. It is only crass mistakes which will cause you to washout. These tires are worth the money, because they make you so confident that you will want to roll over anything (like sharp rocks at 45 mph). On the downside, you will suffer on the ascents, because these tires are a bit weighty, and have tremendous rolling resistance (that is why I have them pumped up to 60 psi). The benefits outweigh the drawbacks though, because unprecedented traction and control will be yours. So check out these tires, and if find your climbing hindered, just sprint downhill and you will make up for the lost uphill time. I give these tires 4 chilis, 'cos they grip like Abrams tank treads, but are heavy.

Bottom Line:

Loads more traction and cheap. I ride it only in the front and use something else in the rear (to keep weight down). Ride my other bike for the first time in a long time with specialiazed team tires and skidded out all over the place cause they didn't have the traction the missle does. I really gotta get a gozziloddi (spelling) though. My theory is wider the better. on courses like Northstar this year which was full of dust and ruts all over the place, wide = fast = good. But the missle did fine. Catcha at the races.

Bottom Line:

These tyres are great when partnered with an EL Gato rear. Most people seem to realise this, but the few who insist that they suck have probably got them set up all wrong. You need a WIDE rim (minimum Mavic 521, but preferably a 321 or Sun-Ringle Phat Albert). You also need to run them at low pressure (35 psi). This makes them severely draggy uphill - but why are you using these tyres if you want to ride up. They grip fine when you are pushing! The upshot of this is that you need a DH inner tube. Try a Hutchinson Green Tube, which works well.

man this tires rock! i've had them on the trials bike for over 6 months and not one pinch flat yet...and i run them at 30psi or lower. i had my first flat with them today...tubes fault not the tire...and i ran it totally flat for 5 miles on pavement...not one crease in teh sidewall! and i had total control over the bike (rear) even though it was flat....and talk about cornering and predicatbility! these tires just keep on hooking up even when you lay it hard into the corners...i've yet to have these things slip on me. they do pack up in mud and get skiddish when wet...but what tires don't? they are hard to find now...so go get some today!!!!!!!!!!!! the only bad thing about these tires...for xc use they are heavy...you notice them on the climbs, but with the traction and control they provide...i'll pedal them up any hill...jsut a bit slower!
for downhill...slap them on and go!!!!!!!!!

I use the Missile on the front and am very pleased with the performance. It really digs when cornering hard. The one characteristic that appeals to me is its predictability. I can feel exactly what's going on up front with this tire. I punctured it on a fast downhill covered with roots and jagged rocks and didn't realize that it had flatted until I started to slip on some off camber roots. I couldn't believe it was still rideable while flat. Turned out I had a pinch flat due to too low air pressure. I trust this tire 100 per cent!

After about 15 fairly hard XC rides on the tires I have no complaints except that they do tend to pack up with mud fairly easily. They do however still handle very well in the goop so I could really care less. They handle very nicely and have had no problems with cornering.

Bottom Line:

The Missiles are, for the most part, an excellent tire. I use them more for hardtrials riding rather than downhilling because that's what I do more. I chose them because downhill tires handle the abuses of concrete steps, curbs, and the accidental glass that always seem to be in my path. I've done countless tests on these tires and haven't popped one yet. I don't worry much about glass anymore because they seem immortal to it. They're great in these areas, their cornering traction is unbeatable. The downfalls of the tire is mud. It doesn't take much Iowa mud to clog these up for good, and it takes forever for it to clean itself out. Other than that, it's great, 5 chilies, even though I should only put 4.

These are the best tires on the market. I switched from wimpy Panaracer Duster IIs. What a difference! When I go down steep hills I can actually get traction! My braking and cornering has increased immensly. I can't believe that I rode without them! These tires will also increase your confidence. On my Panaracers, I slid out and ate it really hard. Now, I am confident again and go much faster since I know I will be able to stop without skidding down half the mountain!! I noticed the weight a little bit, but if you are concerned about it, buy Panaracer GreenLite tubes. They will shave off another 50 grams from rotating weight. Five flaming chilies all the way. I wish I could give them six!!!

I hooked into these things 'cause I like to go fast! They are heavy, but corner at speed like nothing else, and track through the rough like you wouldn't believe. I've ripped through hardpack, loose sand, that pumice gravel swagg at Mammoth, and snow mixed with slimy mud up in the Laguna Mtns, and these tires have never made me nervous. My tech. weenie buddies rag on me --too heavy for racing-- but crap on that! I always beat them down the hill!

Excellant tire, I run mine w/60psi and get awsome control with minimal rolling resistance. BTW the missle will be replaced soon with a tire called the Kujo it will be even more of a motocross type motorcycle construction. Only thing is it will weigh approx. 120 grams more than tne Missile.

I've used these for a year.
I don't give a shit about what people say, these are the best tyres ever.
They eat shit and DONT die, ie no punctures (even 6 nails)
They grip like a bitch round ya middle on the dry stuff, are consistant on the crumble stuff and grip like a mother on the pete stuff. They do clogg however on really sticky stuff, but hey I've got spikes for that.
In England its pissy wet all the time nearly. And I've given these tyres serious abuse and let the 6 travel sort the job out. The only consideration is that the new rear missile type tyre will be better under breaking.

I like the Missile but I don't feel that it is by any means the best tire out there. I ndry conditions it is outstanding, but I think it lacks elsewhere. I feel that it has a tendency for the rear to swap under braking, more so than other tirres. Oh, and quit calling Luke Patching a baby, he's right in the rain these are evil.On bone dry courses these tires are great. On wet courses they suck.On in between courses they're okay, but the rear wants too swap a lot.

This is the best all around DH tire on the market. Works great, predictable cornering in the loose stuff. Only other tire I will race on is the Wild Gripper for courses with few loose turns, which is very rare. It is the most popular tire at the races, so all of us can't be wrong.

These tires suck for most downhills, they're only good for ripping down fire roads, but not everybody does that. They suck when they get wet (If someone says they're fine when wet, then they aint riding hard enough), I try to avoid every puddle and muddy section or else I waste time trying to concentrate on what my tires are doing rather than on the trail itself.

This is a great tire! It's not too heavy for a 2.25. I has great traction and rolling resistance is not bad. Currently I am only running it up front. I have never cornerred with such confidence. It really feels like you have a solid platform under your fork. Braking is excellent on the steep and hairy. Can't wait to try it on the back. The only negative I can mention is that it slowed down the steering responce a bit. However, I can still wiz through the single track. Also, I would not run this tire in the mud. The tread pattern is too tight to shed mud well. This tire is definately worthy five roasty peppers.

The places I ride are mainly long downhills with heaps of loose stuff and in between are little singletracks that range from hardbacks to absolute slosh. I was riding on Panaracer Duster II kevlar beads but they stunk on hardpacks. Even though I had heard the Missiles were mainly used for d'hilling I decided to fit them on my XC beast. Since then I have never look back. Run these babies at aroud 40 psi and they just do about everything ie bites on the loose stuff especially around tight corners, grips tighty on mud runs(even though they load up keep the back spinning and G-forces will squish that crap out). Descending long technical downhills are a breeze as beings so fat and knobbly they just take the hits and ask for more, therefor you stick to the line you choose not what the run dictates. Climbing is easier beacause they bite so nice that you don't lose that power transfer from rear tyre to ground. Rolling resistance is OK but we don't live in a perfect world. People bitch about the weight of these tires but you gain more with these on then off.I love them and you will too and they definitely are not just for downhillers.

These babies really know how to rock! No, I don't think I'd XC race on them, but then again, have you seen what the pros have been running? Those slicks are some scary stuff! For just screwing around in the dirt and having a kick ass time, these things rule. Get them up to a half decent pressure and you don't have to worry about ripped side walls, or pinch flats, or anything. And damn do they got the traction! They managed to get me and my 31lb downhilling C’dale up some really nasty, muddy, rocky, lose, flowing creaks, nasty (ya, it was some killer stuff) trail. I was really impressed. They take rocky type trail real nice, handling the blows with ease. In the front they hook up great cornering, and have got to be the absolute best when it comes to hauling you to a stop. The breaking bar on these tread is awesome. I had the rear reversed, because I knew I would be doing just as much climbing as descending that day. They rear hooked up great in everything. I’ve heared that they aren’t the greatest in the mud, but I thought they worked just fine. Oh, and by the way, I have never owned a set of tires that corner as well as these thing do. The Specialized set I own used to impress me. Ya, they Specialized are great tires, and probably the ones I would chose to race on, but these Missles are way more fun.So what sucks about them you ask? Well not much. Yup, you can feel the weight on the flat, smooth stuff, or when climbing smooth stuff. They way about 750 grams a piece, probably 100-150 grams more then what your used to. But in every thing else the weight disappears, and you end up going just a little bit faster then you used to couse you got the traction and you got confidence. Heck, that weight even disappears when your climbing, couse you don’t have to fight the trail as much.So I say get a set of these. Your friends will love you couse you wont ever get any flats (well, at least a lot less then normal) and they will call you the Moto king couse you got the bike with the fattest, bichn’est, most overly testosterone fortified set a treads on it and you will be able to ride anything; up, down, even sideways (just not upside down! ;-) . If you spend a lot of time in the concrete jungle, do yourself a favor and get a set of slicks. The missles just won’t cut it there, but that’s ok, you wont hear me complaining.~Enigma

tire is phenomenal for steering and braking. I'm not racing downhill with
it but it's a superb tire for gaining control of your steering in poor
