Favorite Trail:Rougher The Better
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $300.00
Purchased At:SportMart
Strengths:Great beginner trail bike, seeing as how i am a beginner trail rider.
Weaknesses:Front fork could use more travel. It keeps bottoming out on rougher trails, and it is TOO heavy.
Similar Products Used:None, I am a beginner.
Bike Setup:Manitou Magnum, Shimano rapid fire, Disc Brakes.
Bottom Line:Great bike for a beginner. and it was cheap with a wicked setup. If you are looking to get into trail riding, it is pure good times with this bike.

Strengths:great flexibility, perfect shock for my weight. excellent setup
Weaknesses:for a heavier person, the shock wouldn't be nearly as effective
Bottom Line:I like this shock it's perfect for me.

Price Paid: $150.00

Strengths:Good Quality. Durable... Cheap$$$$ 4.5 inches of travel
Weaknesses:A litle stiff for peoples under 120 pounds. Not good for 7 foot drops.
Similar Products Used:Dnm,2003 rockshox "deluxe" and "Bar"
Bike Setup:Iron Horse Mach V / Manitou magnum + rst rear
Bottom Line:Good for middle of the line X-coutry riders. No beginers , no downhillers.

Favorite Trail:anythings good without the rst 56
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $100.00
Purchased At:the bike and run shop
Strengths:None
Weaknesses:Absolutely no compression or dampening. The spring is what provides the cushioning if you'd call it cushioning seeing as its comparable to a pogo stick.
Similar Products Used:rock shox rear shocks
Bike Setup:It was on a norco screamer until it blew up and I was forced to buy a $500 dollar rear shock or buy a new bike and I thought smart by buying a totally new bike(and it wasn't another screamer)
Bottom Line:If your taking big drops and are 200lbs of raw muscle don't purchase a bike with this rear shock unless your willing and prepared to upgrade.

Date Reviewed: April 5, 2002
Favorite Trail:Anything Fast and Furious
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Came with bike
Strengths:Inexpensive, Works okay.
Weaknesses:Heavy, I hate RST's of all shapes and sizes.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:ATX 900, Manitou Spyder forks, RST 56 rear shock, STX-RC Shifters/Sprockets/Chainrings/Crankset/Chain/Brakes/Levers/Hubs, Deore LX front derailleur, Velocity Deep Vee rims, Tioga Factory DH Tires 2.3/2.1, Velo VL3044 Saddle,Amoeba Handlebars, Azonic Stem.
Bottom Line:Not a real great performer, but not bad value for money. I use it for cross country and general purpose riding, but i dont know what to replace it with so gimme some ideas, email me @ jamiekulhanek@hotmail.com . This shock is really a beginner-intermediate shock so no DH or hardcore stuff is wise.

Favorite Trail:S57
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Came stock on bike
Strengths:It hasn't broken yet, cheap
Weaknesses:Weight, amount of travel available, adjustability, made by RST
Similar Products Used:Those awful giant made things
Bike Setup:Giant ATX 900
Bottom Line:This is the kind of component that needs to be upgraded. It lacks adjustability, it is heavy, the amount of travel available in other shocks of the same length is generally slightly greater. I've been fiddling with this shock for ages, either its too soft or too hard, either it rebounds too fast or compreses too fast....there seems to be no middle ground with the thing. It may be just my own incompetence but it may not be

Date Reviewed: May 31, 2001
Favorite Trail:The common
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Super Cycles.com
Strengths:The Rst 56 has been a dream. No leakages or breaks. Its cheap and is easily put onto a bike.
Weaknesses:It tends to braek after 8 Months...(or so I am told)
Similar Products Used:Fox
Bike Setup:DDG godfarther,Rock shox Boxxer,Halo combat rims,Hope enduro 4 pot
Bottom Line:It's a good product. Not raelly made for the serious downhiller but can be used for some hills and absorbs the hard landings.

Date Reviewed: April 24, 2001
Favorite Trail:Carlton Bank
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:They're cheap and easy enough to set-up. Managed to survive about 8 months of riding when slightly bust
Weaknesses:Mine broke with in 4 months of riding. It just fell apart and all the dampening oil came out. I managed to botch it back again, but unfortunately have no money to either get a new one or get it serviced.
Bike Setup:DDG Godfather, Mavic 521's, Shockworks DH1's, Maguras
Bottom Line:I don't reccomend much really. if you do get one, make sure you use it for recreational uses NOT DH or the likes

Submitted by Ben Zeelenberg a Downhiller from The Hague, Netherlands
Date Reviewed: February 15, 2000
Favorite Trail:Namen, Belgium
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:Good Rebound adjusteble,coil-over
Weaknesses:weight, RST doesnot supply lighter springs
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:ATX-1100 with 521 on shimano hubs, Manitou x-vert forks
Bottom Line:For a company that isn't on the market for ages like Rock-shox they make a good range of products, both forks and shocks. The rebound adjusteble RST-56 has a good range. so I would recommend it for slaloming and riding down mountains for riders which haven't got a big bank account.

Submitted by Tony a Downhiller from Canberra, Australia
Date Reviewed: November 28, 1999
Favorite Trail:
Majura, Brindies
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Cheap, coil
Weaknesses:
leaked then broke, most people who had them on bikes in Australia trashed one or two before replacing them
Similar Products Used:
Stratos, Fox, ShockWorks
Bike Setup:
Raceline with ZZYZX
Bottom Line:Poor performer in general. They all seem to leak and some break. Also not very rigid, ie rear end flexed a lot with this shock on. They are cheap but I wouldn't reccomend that you buy one.

Viinikka-Hervanta
Duration Product Used:
tested or demo'ed only
Strengths:
+ Strong
+ Coil
Weaknesses:
- Heavy (who cares)
Similar Products Used:
Cane Creek AD-5
Bike Setup:
R-Tech titanium FS bike,
Marzocchi Bomber Z-1
Bottom Line:This seems like a reliable product. It is
quite heavy, but feels much better to ride home
instead of walking.
