Favorite Trail:?
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $25.00
Purchased At:from a friend (brand new)
Strengths:good looking, not overly heavy, clip in and out pretty nice, better than wellgo platform crap that came stock, better pedaling effiency
Weaknesses:sometimes when you purposely try not to clip in they do anyway, don't shed mud that great, also, if you aren't used to clipless pedals sometimes you forget your clipped in.to make a long story short, ouch!
Similar Products Used:first pair of clipless, but i imagine lower end shimano's
Bike Setup:'02 fisher hardtail
Bottom Line:if you are in need of a pair of clipless pedals these are good and inexpensive.they aren't even close to the quality of time's but for hundreds of dollars less, i'd take them anyday. and if you hav doubts about whether to switch to clipless, i suggest it. these really crappy, plastic wellgo platforms came stock on my bike and they sucked! your feet slip if they are wet, and you don't get half of the effiency as with clipless pedals

Submitted by Pepper a Weekend Warrior from Miami, Fl
Date Reviewed: October 10, 2001
Favorite Trail:New one at Oleta
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:Came on bike at LBS
Strengths:Easy to release, Easy to get into, low profile, paint doesn't come off very easily.
Weaknesses:Pretty weak in the muddy conditions, Not mud shedding at all
Similar Products Used:See previous
Bike Setup:C'dale Jekyll 600 - stock
Bottom Line:One of the few Coda pieces on the bike that I'm satisfied with. I won't replace these pedals until I wear them out. It took a little while to get used to the cleat and pedal, but now it's not a problem at all to click in. The only weakness is the mud, and here in S. Florida we get a lot of it on the trails. But, I have tried other clipless in muddy situations, so I have nothing to compare it with. Good pedal - Coda you did something right!

Date Reviewed: October 2, 2001
Favorite Trail:Markham
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Purchased At:LBS - came with bike
Strengths:Easy to clip out of, low profile, look nice
Weaknesses:Looks can be decieving, impossible to get in sometimes
Similar Products Used:Time, Shimano on a road bike
Bike Setup:C'dale Jekyll 600
Bottom Line:I haven't had a wreck yet because I couldn't get out of 'em, but have gone over the handle bars because I couldn't get in 'em and looked down just enough to not see a huge root in front of me. Not for the beginner and not for first timers. We'll see, maybe I just have to get used to them. I will update soon.

Date Reviewed: September 12, 2001
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:Came with Bike
Strengths:Zilch
Weaknesses:Freaking impossible to clip in
Bike Setup:Cannondale F700
Bottom Line:CODA sucks! There is nothing worse then to see your buddies race away as you fiddle with trying to get clipped in. Just when you think your in...PSYCH...you are only half clipped in, and still have zero control of the bike. I have to loosen these as much as possible to even have a prayer of getting in, then my foot basically falls out. I would much rather concentrate on the trail then my feet. UPGRADE IMMEDIATELY!

Bottom Line:Not the greatest pedal out there, but for the price - I have few problems. Don't do great in mud, but they do the job and they do it just fine.

Date Reviewed: July 13, 2000
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Solid construction, excellent feel
Weaknesses:a bit heavy, they don't shed mud the best
Similar Products Used:Shimano, wellgo/scott
Bike Setup:y2k Jekyll 900sl
Bottom Line:This is the one CODA part that I like. These pedals are with out a doubt the most solid feeling pedals I've ever used. Great clip in and out feel. They never release prematurely, and they are easy to get into. They are a touch on the hefty side and they don't shed mud like Time but as far as over all feel is concerned, they are great. This is the one CODA party that is staying.

Submitted by Cadel Evans :-p a Cross Country Rider from Sydney, Australia
Date Reviewed: July 6, 2000
Favorite Trail:ummmmm, most that I've ridden
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:- Came with the bike, so I guess cheap???
- Easy to get out of
- At least someone's thoughtful & it comes with Wellgo platform clip-ins :-(
Weaknesses:- You try getting in!
- Foot slides around in pedal
Similar Products Used:None - my first clipless
Bike Setup:Y2K Cannondale F700
Bottom Line:Stupid pedal - Wellgo sells them for nothing . . . & don't work all that well. I need to set the spring tension down to nothing (which means really really fast release) but if you set it tighter you can never clip in! I can see how it works OK on the road where clipping in & clipping out isn't a major issue but on the dirt . . . grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Anyway, as a first clipless it isn't that bad. I just don't think I have enough confidence to use them on the dirt - esp on singletracks as I can't really control the bike without clipping in & it won't clip in! Those Wellgo platform clip-ons are really attractive right now!

Similar Products Used:747, 636

Date Reviewed: May 2, 2000
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Smaller than the old school boats I used to have.
Weaknesses:TOO EASY TO CLIP OUT OF! When doing jumps watch out, your foot comes out whenn you don't want it to. Doesn't give a "secure" feeling,(foot slides around alot in the pedal).
Similar Products Used:Shimano, which I am a major fan of.
Bike Setup:KHS Alite 4000, Manitou SX Ti's, LX/XT/XTR.
Bottom Line:I just got these from a trade which was a good one. Just save up and get Shimano 858's please.

Strengths:light???
Weaknesses:clipping in is difficult
Similar Products Used:only platforms
Bike Setup:C'dale F400, XT, grip shifters, mythos irc, headshock
Bottom Line:Here's an update:

These suck so bad. Half the time I don't clip in right. I get only half the cleat in and when I want to twist out, I'm stuck for a few seconds. Or, they are hard to connect with and don't clip in at all. They seem kind of dangerous. I've learned to manage them until they wear out so I can buy a decent set of pedals. If you are in the position to get different pedals, DO IT!!! These rot....

Weaknesses:Clip out to easy any dirt in them and they are hard to clip in.
Similar Products Used:Ritchly
Bike Setup:99 Cdale Supper V 900
Bottom Line:They are not the best pedals in the world. They came with the bike. I will get ride of them when I get the money. To bad the put them on a good bike it just takes away from the bike. I don't know what they cost but I bet you could get better one's for the same price.

Strengths:None
Weaknesses:Everything
Similar Products Used:Onza,515, Time
Bike Setup:Cannondale F1000
Bottom Line:Cannondale should stick to building bikes and leave the pedals to Time and Shimano. Why do the 2000 high end C'dale models come with no pedals? Spend the money and buy Time. They are the best out there. Read the reviews.

Strengths:lighter than 747s
cheap
Weaknesses:bearings don't trun that smooth
pedal mechanism
Similar Products Used:shimano 747s,545
Bike Setup:cannondale f900sx
Bottom Line:these pedals are lighter but the mechanism is nowhere near the quality of shimano brand pedals. some times because of back latch being split only part of your foot clips in. for some reason they don't turn as easy either. it's not that noticable but you can fell it. overall a descent pedal but shimano is still the best in my books.

Date Reviewed: January 4, 2000
Favorite Trail:
All that are open
Duration Product Used:
less than 1 month
Strengths:
These pedals came with my bike and worked well enough and long enough for me to afford a suitable replacement.
Weaknesses:
The drive side pedal began to loosen on its spindle after every hour of riding. To their credit, this did not happen until they were smacked by several large rocks.(Which are plentiful here)These clipless are difficult to get into if the mechanism picks up too much debris.
Similar Products Used:
Shimano 747s which, in my opinion, are much better.
Bike Setup:
00' SuperV 1000, Continental tires, everything else stock.
Bottom Line:I initially liked these pedals, but they were hard to clip into at times. I might have been able to get new Codas under warranty, but i'd rather ride than put up with the hassle. I could have used locktite or teflon tape to immobilize the locknut assembly, but I got a good deal on a pair of 747s.($78 AFTER tax) I am quite happy with my SuperV frame and Headshok, but the pedals are a letdown. If you plan to buy this model of bike don't let this scare you away, it is a great bike. I suggest doing what I did: ride with the pedals until they break and then replace them.

Cathedral
Duration Product Used:
3 months
Strengths:
Easy Clip out
Weaknesses:
Even with tension high it clips out too easy
They are heavy, Cannondale says they weigh 370 grams, but they feel heavier than that, but I personally haven't weighed them
Retention mechanism breaks easily
Similar Products Used:
Specialized Comps
Bike Setup:
Cannondale F900Z
Bottom Line:These pedals do the job except for the fact that the retention mechanism sanpped on both sides of both of my pedals in less tahn 3 months. I am going to buy Time's. 2 Napalm turds!

Strengths:
Adjustable, thank God!
Nice on the road or flat terrain
Weaknesses:
Sometimes hard to clip in and out of
Similar Products Used:
Only this!
Bike Setup:
Cannondale F400
P Bone Headshock
Bottom Line:I almost broke bones before I discovered that they are adjustable. I set the tension really low now. I pop out in a second. I also lube them before each ride to ease quick release when necessary. Another discovery, cheapo plastic platforms. They are really great when you want to be unclipped on rought terrain where you may need to catch yourself in an emergency. Otherwise, these are pretty cool. I'm sure there is something better out there.

Turkey Creek
Duration Product Used:

Strengths:
A fairly good pedal for a first clipless pedal. I think they look pretty cool.
Weaknesses:
Clog up BAD in serious mud, especially clay-based mud. Many wrecks in the rain/mud due to not being able to release.
Similar Products Used:
Ritcheys
Bike Setup:
Fisher, Judy XC, XT der., Avid Brakes
Bottom Line:They're not a bad pedal for a first clipless pedal, and they look good. Be careful of these if you ride in muddy conditions because they lock up BAD!!! In dry conditions I have had no problems with them at all. They are a little heavy, but for this price range what you might expect.

Bike Setup:
Cannondale Super V 500
Bottom Line:I bought a Cannondale Super V 500 yesterday with grad money...AWESOME BIKE!!!! However, I will not be able to ride it for another 6 - 8 weeks. 4 broken bones in hand and stitched up chin. If all clipless pedals are like these, you might as well be tying concrete blocks to your feet and jumping into a river cause there is no way to get outta these death straps until it's to late and you are flying over handlebars.
