NiteRider TailFazer TL 5.0 Older Lights

4/5 (2 Reviews)

Product Description

NiteRider understands the safety importance of commuter lights. For much of night riding, the key to survival is not only seeing but also being seen. The TailFazer helps with the latter. This 5 LED seatpost mounted flasher can be mounted either vertically or horizontally on a mount that can be adjusted so it is either perpendicular or parallel to the ground. Three lighting modes (flash, steady, and random) give you a choice in how you want to be seen. The 2 included AAA batteries will run up to 30 hours in flash mode. 84g.

Strengths:    Bright, does not eat up batteries.

Weaknesses:    No quick release for the mount.

Bottom Line:
I like the light, the brightness, the size, and the visibility, however I am a weight weenie and it drives me nuts that the mount its self does not come off via quick release. You can take the light pod off the mount but you can't take the mount off the seatpost without a flat head screwdriver. I know, it only weighs a few grams, but a few grams is a few grams and I wish the mount would come off.

I would have given it five Chilis if it had a quick release mount.

Strengths:    It's light, fairly compact (in two dimensions, anyway), secures firmly, and (most important) has very bright, very even illumination within a rather concentrated oval field. The field is wide enough, however, to be easily seen by motorists anywhere behind you. Can be positioned with long dimension either horizontal or vertical.

Weaknesses:    Little or no reflecting surface to bounce back car headlights, and the long dimension, about 4 1/2 inches, is a little more than I'd like.

Bottom Line:
This provides one of the brightest and most even fields of illumination I've seen. Very nice optics. If you don't care about reflectivity in your tail light, it's a very good bet.
