Submitted by Thomas Essick a Racer from Kindsbach, Germany
Date Reviewed: August 27, 2003
Favorite Trail:To many to list
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Pro Sport Bikes, Germany
Strengths:Light weight, super bright, quick charging, German quality. Batteries and lights from Lupine are intercompatible, you can mix and match.
Weaknesses:Depth of light penetration, but essentially none
Similar Products Used:Vista, Sigma, Cateye
Bike Setup:KHS soft tail for commuting 50km round trip
Bottom Line:Perhaps the best lighting out there! The German quality and engineering puts others like vista and nightrider to shame! My price was for the light without charger (charger came with the Nightmare light also from Lupine). The light produces a super white/blue hue that illuminates everything in the area! The only down side is the penetration is not as far as a spot beam. I have the mechanical switch, so no high and low beam settings. Burn time is claimed 10 hours full power, but I've used it an entire week commuting during winter months and never wore the battery completely out. Lupine has a "smart" charger that will charge lithium ion, nickel metal hydride, and nicad batteries from Lupine, adjustable charge rates, and is 110/220 volt compatible. Bottom line: Yes, they are "pricey", but you get what you pay for. I'm giving five chillies despite the price!

Date Reviewed: October 1, 2002
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:www.gretnabikes.com
Strengths:The Lupine Stuby(X-TRem beam) is perhaps the most state of the art bicycle/adventure light on the market. With a ten hour burn time on high, and twenty-eight hour burn on low, the Stuby will outlast even the most tenacious adventure racer. It uses 26 white LED's and lithium ion technology to give a cool burning light assembly that weighs next to nothing. Installation is as you would expect from German engineers, it simply cant get any easier. The Lupine takes (literally) 15 seconds to install or remove.
Weaknesses:Price is going to be a concern for many. Consider though, how many night riders would you have to carry to compare? This system is THE STATE OF THE ART.
Similar Products Used:Night rider,Vista light
Bike Setup:'03 gemini 2000
Bottom Line:If you need a light that works for insane amounts of time, that burns cool, that you can recharge in your car in 3 hours, you have found it. It comes with a real head mount, so think caving, and camping, and ANYTHING else you want to do at night.
