Bottom Line:
Couple of weeks ago I snapped the "brain-trust" on the back of my old Eduro-Comp helmet. Talked to the crew at Specialized and thay had me send it in on warranty. Got a new helmet from them today! What a great company in terms of service and supporting their products! Five flames to the team at Specialized.

Strengths:
inexpensive. nice brain trust retention system. may have saved my life.
Weaknesses:
bulkier-looking than more expensive helmets.
Bike Setup:
steel hardtail w/ tubeless wheelset
Bottom Line:
After about two years of riding with this helmet (I had a '00 model, but it looks the same as the new ones) and not thinking about it much, I had the worst wreck of my life. The helmet lost a chunk, but that's a lot better than if my head lost a chunk. So, this helmet gets the highest praise possible for a helmet: it did its job!
For those on a budget looking for a solid helmet, this is a good choice.

Bottom Line:
I crashed, the helmet broke, I walked away, pushed my bike to my car. I drove home. Next day, I went to the store and bought another one just like it! I looked at bike magazines before I bought this helmet, and it is highly rated. I never leave it in the sun When I commute, I lock my bike up and take the helmet inside with me.

Strengths:
I like the Brain Trust system, it fit my head much better than the mechanism Giro uses. One fitted, the helmet never became loose or ever caused me any problems. Set and forget. The visor does its job. Lastly, it saved my head so that is what is important.
Weaknesses:
Shell doesn't sit flush all over the helmet, could be glued better, but never came apart. Some say it is heavy, I didn't really think so. Lack of vents?

Bottom Line:
Great helmet, not just for beginners. I've worn this helmet for a year and it has held up well. I like the Brain Trust because it keeps the helmet set on you head even when going over large jumps or stutter bumps. The helmet sacrificed itself today in a big crash where I endo'd on a steep muddy and rocky hill. The helmet cracked, but my head felt like it hit a pillow...not the rock it really hit. I am very happy with the performance of this helmet. I usually don't write reviews, but I thought I would give this one its due. They are fairly cheap and I will most likely buy another, or a higher model in Specialized with more vents (not sure if I need it though). Try one of these on.

Strengths:
Looks great and fits well. Very comfortable. I like the braintrust adjustment in the back, but I keep it tight all the time anyway, why not just make it fixed that way and save the weight and cost?
Weaknesses:
The front section is extremely weak because of the air vent. If Specialized designed the helmet with a solid front, it would be considerably stronger. I broke two chunks of foam off doing an end-o, and now I need a new one. I also realize most people do more riding than tanking, but the vent really does negatively effect the strength of the helmet, placing an extremely vulnerable and week section in the front, where it counts.
Bike Setup:
Trek 930 Tank
Bottom Line:
Great looking and functioning helmet, but if and when I do any more end-os, I'm getting a different helmet. Get this helmet if you want to look cool and don't care about your head.

Strengths:
Feels sturdy and snug. Visor never moves. The straps are comfortable around my head. Good ventilation.
Weaknesses:
Just a bit heavier than what it should be in my opinion. It is great that Sun Microsystems got involved somehow on the design, but as a result I have noticed that it is much wider than the average helmet. OK, it is for safety I am sure but the helmet looks good but BIG on the head, and forget taking the visor away. Then it just looks bad. Lastly, this might be a knock on all visors but when I've got a long fireroad speedy downhill I can really feel the drag of the visor. Even on a strong wind gust.

Specialize Pirana. (not as comfortable)
Bike Setup:
GT Zaskar with various goodies added on. SRAM 9.0 brakes Bontrager rims/I like Manitou and will never go back to Rockshox. XT drivetrain and levers
Bottom Line:
I would shop around for the price. I was so happy with my prior specialized Pirahna that I jumped right on enduro when I need a new helmet. It works but the Uvex line looks really sleak this year. Met has a great rep but the looks don't grab me. Like I said, not bad but put 1 or 2 other helmets on your head before you take this "wide load" home.
