Favorite Trail:Etobicoke Creek, Urban Trials
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $30.00
Purchased At:SportChek
Strengths:Looks cool, feels comfortable, made by Giro, doesn't feel heavy, didn't cost very much either.
Weaknesses:The visor doesn't do much. I took it off, but the helmet still has those ugly holes where the visor clips in.
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:2002 Specialized Hardrock Pro, RaceFace handlebar and stem, Shimano drivetrain.
Bottom Line:This is a great helmet. I didn't pay much for it, and I haven't had a single problem with it. I got rid of that cheesy visor thingy because it looks stupid and doesn't do very much. I wish I'd bought it in red though...

Strengths:A comfortable helmet when properly fitted and set up. Durability. Price. Good cool weather helmet.
Weaknesses:Hot in hot weather!! Not enough sweat absorbing padding.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Tassajara upgraded. Sun Rhyno Lite rims, xt hubs laced with DT champion spokes, Avid sd 7 brakes, Raceface Turbine LP crank, WTB Speed V seat.
Bottom Line:I've used this helmet for just over a year now and it has worked well for me in cool conditions. No visor problems as some others have reported. However I would not recommend this helmet for hot climates and especially not for hot and humid climates. The venting and design is just not capable of adequate cooling. Compounding this weakness is the forehead padding portion of this helmet tend to saturate with sweat which then pours down the front of your face. I even tried attaching some additional padding [supplied with helmet]. It alleviated the problem only slightly. I often find myself having to stop on extended rides in hot conditions and squeeze sweat out of the pads.

I'm giving the helmet 4 chilis for value because after hundreds of rides and thousands of miles it has performed without failure of any kind ie; padding all still attached, straps still fine and no visor problems. A good cool weather helmet at an affordable price.

I'm giving it 3 chilis as an overall rating because of its inabilty to cope with hot conditions. You should look at something else if you regularly ride in hot and/or hot and humid climates.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:The Bicycle Planet
Strengths:Helmet is lite and Pretty strong for a foam helmet. Comfortable enogh for a long ride. Inexpensive for all of you on a budget. Seems Padded enough for comfort. Rock lock works very well and holds helmet in place when your gettin bounced around. Visor does not fall off when riding some of the guys I know have this problem with other helmet brand.
Weaknesses:On hot days there is not much ventalation and not enough padding on brow to absorb sweat when your pouring. Addidtional padding does not stick worth a crap. Chin strap placement is alittle annoying is twists easy and sometimes it gets annoying on my cheek when long rides in the heat and I'm sweating.
Similar Products Used:ProTec Brain Bowl (nice but no ventalation what so ever)
Bike Setup:Specilaized StumpJumper FSR XC Disc (Mostly Stock)
Bottom Line:This is a good helmet, comfortable, Lite, stays in place. All the thing that make it a good helmwt for a minamalist like myself when I ride it's great does what it suppose to do if you like your helmet with other options look somewhere else. Ventalation sucks you sweat like a pig on hot days and with the absence of a good sweat band it my become a problem. I will look at other models but maybe not another brand. When you live in New York and the cops are gonna start givin out tickets for no helmet guess I'll wear mine. Normally I don't wear it on the road but if you go offroad without a helmet your F*!kin crazy.

Price Paid: $40.00
Purchased At:Performance
Strengths:Low cost, exlint fit, won't move around when hitting the ruff stuff. Visor works somewhat.
Weaknesses:The pivot socket pulled out (located on the temple area under the pad), there are two one on each side of the helmet. They are part of the rock lock system, becareful not to put to much force here because once they pop out they won't stay put after you pop it back in. I went back and got a replacement. There is no guide lines on where to place the four pads.
Similar Products Used:Bell
Bike Setup:Stumpjumper FSR
Bottom Line:I wanted a helmet that didn't look like a Starwars spaceship on my head this one in grey looks ok. It does what its suppose to, stay on until (hopefully never) needed..They were onsale at the time which is always nice. The pads do come loose but I had the same problem with other brands just use your own glue when needed. Bottom line is; this one fits me well and i'm off to hit some trails..

Strengths:Looks good. I like the Roc Lock 3, or whatever it's called. The ventilation is better than on my old head bucket.
Weaknesses:The visor sits too high. I guess it's only there for looks? The brow pad is too narrow. Sweat runs down the outer edge of my eyes. The pad on my old helmet was wider, and kept the sweat off my face.
Similar Products Used:Bell Vertigo
Bike Setup:Rockhopper FSR. Duke Race fork. Many upgrades.
Bottom Line:For ventilation and appearance, I like this lid better than the Bell Vertigo it replaced. However, The visor sits higher and the brow pad allows sweat to run down my face at the corners of my eyes. I like the fit, and the retention thing in the back is adjustable and comfortable.

Bottom Line:if you dont wear a helmet, then you apparently want to leave your brain residue for the vultures on some rock, and you go ahead and have fun with that. me, on the other hand, likes my gray squishies inside my head, with no open access. my helmet stopped a big fat rock from exploring my head cavity recently, and it cracked the helmet into 3 seperate pieces. i got a wicked neckache, and headache and shoulderache and all other kinds of aches but a deadache. so WEAR YOUR FREAKING HELMETS OR BE TRAIL PASTE!!!!!! Bottom Line:I used to be a sunday rider, but since I have my new kick ass bike, I realized that I needed protection, cause I'm getting more into cross country riding. I turn myself to Giro, cause my boyfriend already had one, and he is pretty satisfied with it! I was a very surprise to feel comfortable with it on my head (I used to wear a helmet to snowboard, and it's not that comfortable). Altough I have long air (and a lot), it doesn't feel too hot when i wear it! And about the price, it's not too much expensive, so I appreciate this (poor student I am!). So I'm really happy with my new purchase and I can't wait to go ride again...

Strengths:well ventilated, good fit, comfortable, secure
Weaknesses:I had to use my own velcrose and pads to supplement the ones supplied. Bit of a pain.
Similar Products Used:Bell stuff.
Bike Setup:Mongoose Rockadile '96
Bottom Line:Of course one helmet that fits one person may not fit another. But I love this helmet and it's the best I've had. I usually buy Bell but went for this one based on Giro's support of Lance Armstrong at the time -and they've made me a good customer! (though I believe the same company owns both Bell and Giro). One of my biggest problems is that I overheat -in actual fact the helmet before this one was a Bell whatchamacallit that had more vents, but was considerably hotter.

Bottom line is to try a helmet before you purchase (though I did buy this "blind" online, it worked out well). I thoroughly recommend it. Additionally, the true test of the helmet is protection, but since I haven't had a bad head banging fall, I can't comment on it until called upon -but I assume it's good.

Bike Setup:2001 Raleigh M60
Bottom Line:I just got this helmet for my birthday and I love it. This is the most comfortable helmet I have ever had. For the first time I found a helmet that does not look dorky. At first I was very put off by the price having always bought cheapo helmets, but I quickly recognized the higher level of design, quality, and style. Fortunately, my birthday provided the perfect excuse to get the helmet. From what I have seen, this helmet is on the lower price spectrum of Giro's product line up. I am relatively new to the world of quality bicycle's, parts, accessories, and apparel, but some of the other $100 helmets seem a bit excessive. This was a little bit more money that I personally would have spent until I tried it on and was amazed. If you want a really great helmet this is the one to get due to its relatively low price and great features.

If you want something stronger than Cro-mo, but doesnt bounce around like an alum. frame, Fisher or K2 make sweet light steel frames. (though GF quit with the '98 aquila) Oh well thats my 2 cents worth.

Strengths:Fits well, good vents, durable.
Weaknesses:Slides a little to one side sometimes (maybe it's just the shape of my head) and I need to re-adjust every now and then to compensate. Also chin strap needs to be re-tightened before every ride.
Similar Products Used:A cheap Louis Garneau, some other Giro (paid $50 cdn.).
Bike Setup:A heavily modified 1999 Brodie Energy with parts from LBS and great stuff from Taiwan for really cheap.
Bottom Line:I love this helmet. When I had my road crash and cracked my other Giro (don't remember the model), the Mojave was my crash replacement from Bell Sports (I guess they own Giro) for $25 Cdn. Better than the old helmet, bought at Pedalhead, in terms of comfort and looks. Very durable too... had numerous wipes and a slight run-in with a tree and my head's still alright. Also rode with this thing thru Edmonton's freezing winter. I recommend this helmet to anyone, even my girlfriend likes it because the rocloc accomodates ponytails well. Giro all the way.
