Favorite Trail:Road
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $39.00
Purchased At:On-line
Strengths:It feels good and I liked the visor as I ride in bright sun light on long road trips
Weaknesses:could use more vents, as the foamies got hard from sweat drying them out. New helmets have the GPS system (fit) which is adjustable on the fly.
Similar Products Used:Specialized, replace the Paradox w/ a new XC Sweep. Yeah, I know its a MTB helmet but I like the Visor.
Bike Setup:Habanero Titanium w/ full Campy
Bottom Line:This is an adequate helmet for recreational riders. I only upgraded for more vents and better adjustability. I think my heads worth the $79 the new helmet costs.

Favorite Trail:QE2 or Psych Center
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Purchased At:Bike Docter
Strengths:Good bang for the buck ( I think I paid around $50 CND) Its been used and abused for 2 almost 3 years and I love it!
Weaknesses:none really...its a little warm, but then again black was not the best color choice (it was the last one in my size!)
Similar Products Used:CHEAP bell ($20 CND)
Bike Setup:Trek 4500 upgraded shifters and rear rim, platform pedals
Bottom Line:Yup I'm buying another one, cuz its time I retired this one. Maybe I'll go up one model, but Bell fits me noggin the best of anything I can afford. I've crashed my brains out more times then I can count, but thanks to the helmet, I can still ride!

Favorite Trail:Poto
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $40.00
Strengths:Feels pretty good on......
Weaknesses:BROKE without falling
Similar Products Used:other BELLS
Bottom Line:I rode this helmet for almost a year and then without warning and without hitting anything (never hitting anything) the plastic strap going around the back of the helmet just snapped in half!!!!! My helmet fell down in front of my eyes and I couldn't see so I had to wedge it onto my head to ride the rest of the 9 mile trail I was on.

So I figure no prob... I'll just call them and they will do whatever they can to get me a new one by my race on Sunday. So I call them and the lady on the phone is like "you know some "SERIOUS" riders get two helmets and keep another around in case something goes wrong." Now that is bull! She is saying that because their product is crap I should spend double on it and that is just crap so now I am pissed so....... 1 Star!

Price Paid: $27.00
Purchased At:Oshman's
Strengths:great ventilation
fits well
light weight
protects head well
Weaknesses:visor blocks view
Similar Products Used:other Bells (cheaper ones)
Bike Setup:Univega Alpina 500 with SPD pedals
Bottom Line:I bought this helmet thinking it was a great deal. It fit great and kept my head cool. Well, I was riding, and there was a low-hanging tree limb; it had never posed a problem with previous helmets. The visor blocked my field of view, and my head hit the limb; I had to sit down a few minutes before riding again. I almost passed out. DO NOT BUY THIS HELMET UNLESS YOU ENJOY HAVING THE TOP HALF OF YOUR FIELD OF VIEW BLOCKED.

Submitted by Jason Dreimanis a Weekend Warrior from Adelaide, SA, Australia
Date Reviewed: March 24, 2002
Favorite Trail:Narrow Neck - Blue Mountains
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:Super Elliots - Adelaide
Strengths:- Excellent air flow
- I like the visor
- Good adjustability
Weaknesses:- Woudl be nice if the back didn't have exposed foam
Bottom Line:I really like this helmet from the point that it fits well in its price bracket and then some. It always provides good ventilation (a must in Australia), and although I have seen some riders who don't like the visor, I feel it shades my face well (and us Aussies need our shade in summer).

I also have had the misfortune to actually be able to test its crash worthiness on a couple of occasions, and it does its job well. The extra adjustability also helps in this respect, since you can fit it right without any discomfort.

Favorite Trail:San Gabriel (JPL Area)

Purchased At:Bikeology (Torrence, CA)
Strengths:Light, good ventilation, good price, basically does the job.
Weaknesses:None I can identify
Similar Products Used:N/A
Bike Setup:Modified GT Aggressor II
Bottom Line:I took a nice little spill on some cement steps. I was goofing around and did a stupid little bunny hop over a curb with two small steps just behind it. As my back tire came up, my front tire hit the stair causing my front shocks to retract all the way down. I went right over the handlebars, bounced off my melon, and flipped over on the walkway. Beauty eh! The only damage was my ego. I probably would have been seriously hurt if it had not been for this helmet. WEAR ONE!

Strengths:IT STILL WORKS!
Weaknesses:None.
Similar Products Used:None.
Bike Setup:Fisher Paragon 2001 Disc
Bottom Line:I still love this helmet - I'm on my fourth one now. In November I crashed again, broke my collar bone and my third Paradox. I'd hate to think what my head would have looked like without it!

I'm glad that the visor breaks away as easily as it does. Helmet #2 was done in by a full force face plant. I think the break-away visor helped to absorb some of the impact.

I'm obviously very hard on my helmets, and it is very comforting to know that the next time I crash my head into something I should come out okay because the Paradox works so well. Hard to beat this for CDN$50.

Strengths:Great fit for my small head. Lightweight. Extremely tough! Good protection in a crash
Weaknesses:The visor blocks vision on downhills, which is just when you need your vision most!
Similar Products Used:n/a
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Paragon 2001
Bottom Line:I had the chance to experience this helmet's worthiness yesterday in a pretty major crash. After hitting a nasty rut, I slid downhill and my head bounced against rock very, very hard. My helmet cracked almost all the way through, but it protected my head from any damage. I have a fairly nasty headache, but I don't even see a bump on my noggin! I would definitely buy this product again.

Strengths:Good Fit, Good Looks, Good Price. Overall a very good buy.
Weaknesses:The visor blocks the view of the horizon. I don't even wear it anymore. It isn't very safe to be flying down a road and you have to strain to see in front of you.

Strengths:Good fit, not heavy at all. My head doesn't get super hot. Excellent customer service.
Weaknesses:Straps are a little uncomfortable
Bottom Line:Great helmet that compares well with any other band or style. What has really sold me is the Bell customer service. One of the pads that lines the inside of the helmet came lose and I lost it somewhere ( not when I was riding it). One call to Bell and they had a full pad replacement kit on the way to me. Saved me from buying a new helmet. Thats what I call service. When I do finally buy a higher end helmet, guess what company will get my money.

Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $35.00
Purchased At:Sportsmart
Strengths:Good fit, good sweat retention in head-band, pretty good ventilation, pretty good looks
Weaknesses:Marked up easily. After 1 year the outer shell is full of black marks where the silver coloured coating has worn off. Also has several knicks in foam and small tear in outer shell and I don't abuse it. I ride about 4000km per year
Similar Products Used:Giro - liked it better but it cost about twice as much
Bike Setup:Merlin Extralight, Mavic Ksyriums, DuraAce
Bottom Line:I am looking at getting a Giro Pneumo. It feels a lot lighter, has lots of holes and looks better but costs a lot more. For the time I spend in this helmet and the sweat we share together I should have invested in something better.

Bottom Line:I looked at other helmets that were more expensive ($70+/-) and I really couldn't see the difference. It was a no brainer for me. I have only had it for a short while and might think it sucks next month, but until then, I would recommend it for any rider.

Strengths:I really like this helmet because of its look and its light, the straps are positioned in the wrong place, too far ahead, that could be me though. The visor was good for me until I stepped on it now the helmet looks stupid.
Weaknesses:Witht the sun beating down on it all the time the tape for the shell decays and the shell actually starts to fall apart, for the money its one damn good helmet but only for a couple years because like I said it sarts to fall apart.

Weaknesses:none so far!
Bike Setup:Specialized Rockhopper, Manitou, XT, XTR, Shimano pedals, Mavic 517 wheels w/ XTR hubs
Bottom Line:I was a little sceptical about getting this helmet due to the price but i guess you can buy good products cheep, and i after reading the above reviews i suppose it does its job when it comes to crashing. I like the way the helmet fits nice and snug and it doesn't feel like it's squashing my melon. the only question i have with this helmet is the visor i find it blocks some of my view of the trail as compared to my Troy Lee Designs visor on my old helmet.

Bottom Line:Went for a ride yesterday on the "Upper Blue" trails near Arkell. Hit a big branch (the kind that doesn't move when you hit it) on the right-front of my helmet. Just about took me right off my bike. Took a nice chunk out of the helmet, but no damage to me. Would have been VERY ugly without the bucket. Went back to my bike shop this afternoon and bought a new Paradox replacement, I'll hang the old one in the garage to remind me to look UP! 5 chilis for keeping me intact.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:protects your head, ventilation, great fit, etc.
Weaknesses:not as freaky looking as some of the higher end Bell helmets
Similar Products Used:my head
Bottom Line:I think I can give a fair review of this, as I have had it for close to a year. I have also had an opportunity to test it's crash wothiness, having the front tire come of a foot wide trail, slamming the side of my head into the ground HARD. Not a single mark left on the helmet afterwardsb (or still, looks brand new), or my head (really surprised not to have a concussion afterwards). The ventilation is good enough to keep your head cool, but the higher end helmets will beat it out. If I were to buy a helmet now it would probably be the Nemesis Pro because it looks really freaky and looks like it would vent better only for a little bit more money. But for the low low end this helmet is about as good as it can get.

I only had this thing for a week ----and absolutely loved it---- and then when I was riding down a short steep section at Quarry Park, my front wheel caught a piece of wire fence lying next to the trail and I was thrown over my handlebars and my helmet hit a large, pointy rock. Favorite Trail:none
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Strengths:+ price/performance ratio
+ visor included
+ look and colours (yellow-black my favourite :-)
+ keeps your head warm (in winter)
+ acceptable weight
Weaknesses:- pads get worn quite quickly
- hardly adjustable Half-Nelson retension system
- narrow straps
- a bit too warm (in summer)
Bike Setup:Giant Terrago '98 (with few upgrades)
Bottom Line:Here, I'd like to say one thing about retension system. It sucks! Although I've been using Bell helmet for almost a year now I couldn't adjust it properly. Moreover the straps are too narrow and materials used in the system are of pretty bad quality and get worn very quickly. The same is with pads which are irreplacable (exept front one). On the other hand, Bell helmet fits my head perfectly comparing to others and, as mentioned above, it has quite good price/performance ratio.

The bottom line is take off the visor, and one helmet is just as good as another. Look for the head retension systems and the lowest price with some vents. Don't spend $130 on a helmet to look like the guy a the bike shop wants you to, he makes $65 on the $130 hat and $20 on the $45 hat, the bike shop guy probably owns the $45 hat.

Bottom Line:The retention system is kinda dissapointing. The velcro thins fell off after a month. I took it to my dealer and he told me to STAPLE THEM TO THE SHELL! I did that and it's been better, but now the actual thing refuses to stick to the velcro thing, if you know what I mean. Absolute piece of shit. Anyway, aside from that, it's a nice helmet. It's good looking from most angles, has like 19 vents which is good to know, and they all seem to work pretty good. The visor is nice and I like the cam locks and buckle. I tried one with a nicer retention system and it makes a huge difference. I got it for really cheap too. Good helmet for the price and I'd definately recommend it.
