Date Reviewed: June 14, 2009
Favorite Trail:All
Duration Product Used:More than 3 years
Purchased At:Helsinki local bike
Strengths:Visor popped of nicely every time I dropped the thing on the pavement or floor. Didn't break until the helmet was 10yr old. Two sets of removable pads inluded. Nice looks.
Weaknesses:Elastic strap in the back will die by UV-light over time. Changed it for two times, DIY style.
Similar Products Used:None
Bike Setup:Many
Bottom Line:Production date was back in the 1998, so it makes my Bell Nemesis Pro 11 years old. Now I'm looking for new one, probably Bell again.

Strengths:The structure, the dialed looks.
Weaknesses:It's not choady at all.
Similar Products Used:Hat
Bike Setup:Fixed Gear
Bottom Line:This helmet is the best helmet I have EVER used. It is so not choady. The choadosity of it is very low. It fits perfectly like that condom you just put on before you de-virginize your 17 year old girlfriend. Love it, recommended for anyone.

Favorite Trail:high drive
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:Spokane Bike and Board
Strengths:Light weight, VERY well ventilated, fits perfect (on me anyway)
Weaknesses:Zero
Similar Products Used:Specialized and older Bell's
Bike Setup:Stumpjumper M2
Bottom Line:Love this helmet!!!! When I first put it on, it was like putting on your old favorite baseball cap. Seriously, I didn't adjust it or even click the chin strap and it fit like a glove!!!! It also is very well ventilated. I never thought that "ventilation" was a very big deal nor could you really feel the difference. Man was I wrong!!!! I can actually feel the breeze hitting my mellon. It gets pretty hot in the Inland Northwest so this helmet helps a ton!! Light weight too. Little pricy but good things usually are. At least this one is!!!! Try one out!!!!!!!!!

Favorite Trail:urban trials
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $90.00
Purchased At:Bowcycle
Strengths:Sooo cool (and trust me, it gets mondo hot doing trials), fairly light, fits super snug, fairly easily adjustable retention, pretty inexpensiv
Weaknesses:flimsy stem that got snapped off on a bench thingy, but whatever, visors don't do lots anyway, uuuuhhhhmmmm..... could use less vents when riding in slightly chillier conditions? i don't know???
Similar Products Used:Giro Gila, Specialized mountainman, Specialized king cobra, this sh*t nashbar one, Giro exodus
Bike Setup:99 specialized sworks m2 pro w/ 00 componetns, magura hs33, blackspire bashring, amoeba stem n bar, sun ryhno n mammoth rims (both w/ deore hubs)
Bottom Line:For the money, it's awesome! There's nto much wrong w/ the helmet, it's cool enuf for trials n a lil DH or FR, n that Tom dood from japan must hav a pretty odd shaped head if it duzzint fit him -- last time i checked u can choose from S,M,L. but whatever, it's obvious enuf that the exodus or E2 or king cobra cost a lil bit too much and yeah. even with half a visor, it's still an awesome helmet, and u can get pretty funky colors (like canadian flags or the stars n stripes). The nemisis is the middleman that's a step up from louis garneau crap and gila, but a lil below the exodus n king cobra!

Strengths:Fits great. Very easy to setup out of the box. Real good price. Like the visor. I can still see through the slits
when I have my head down. I cycle to work, and this helmet is really easy on the hair.
Weaknesses:None yet.
Similar Products Used:Bell

velcro stuff looses its stickiness, I had 2 replace it.

Bottom Line:I just opened the box and can't believe how sexy this sucker is!. It's the 2000 model in red. Popped it on and it fits almost perfect. Jest a bit of tweaking and I'll be stylin'.

This thing has GOT to be lots cooler than my old 13 holer. These vents are huge and functional looking. There are also air channels inside-unlike the old Giro.

A new Giro may be as good, but I'm really happy with the Bell purchase.

Similar Products Used:Giro Ricochette, Incline
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher X0 full XT and Raceface
Bottom Line:The Giro Ricochette was the best helmet I have ever owned and I paid $80 in 1996. In 1997 I had a major crashed that wrecked the seat off my bike and totalled the fork. The helmet had a big dent on the side and cracked the styrofoam in the middle. I had a bruised and major scratches on my right hip and shoulder but no concussion. I would say that the Ricochette saved my life. The helmet was replaced by Incline for $25 and although never had a crash with it, I am sure that the helmet is also good. Giro have a good product and I felt really bad that I am now changing brand. However, Giro and Bell are carried by the same dealer in Canada and their warranty was good. Now, I just purchased the Nemesis, and right away I find a major difference between this helmet and the previous helmets I owned. If the helmet is as good as what other people said, then I would say that this helmet is probably so. My first impression was good, I don't see anything that could change that. Oh yeah, I paid $55 CDN tax included for a yellow 2000 model. Not bad for a helmet. So buy one if you need one now! Bell or Giro, you can't go wrong.

Strengths:Completely air-conditioned, no more sweat bleeding into my eyes on those summer climbs.
Weaknesses:Didn't fit, too tight. Bell musta changed its sizing rof this one because my other too bells ( old styrofoam one and tsunami ) both fit well. I tried the next size up, that was like wearing a stew pot(size wise). The helmet fit my buddy just fine and he likes to remind me how great it is for him to be wearing one. What about me Bell?

Favorite Trail:Lincoln Parish Park
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:Price Point
Strengths:Fit, fit, fit! Retention system and ventilation is incredible. Cool color (red!). Bell seems to pay more attention to detail than other manufacturers do.
Weaknesses:The only thing I can think of that I would have put 1 pad across the entire forehead area instead of 2 with a gap in between. Sweat drips down between my eyes with the 2 pad setup.
Similar Products Used:Trek Vapor, Giro Gila.
Bike Setup:Specialized HardRock.
Bottom Line:The bottom line that I should have gotten a Bell first, but I didn't know enough about what I needed. I sold the Vapor to a friend who needed a helmet, and I've had velcro problems with the Gila ever since I got it. Giro was kind enough to send a replacement Roc-Loc and a new pad kit, but the new velcro came off 2 months after I put it on. I don't want to have to worry whether my helmet is going to come off while I'm riding, and the Bell lets me enjoy riding without worry. That hasn't put me off Giro totally, but the Bell has more of what I'm looking for as far as fit and comfort. It fit great right out of the box, but some minor adjustments are in order for a truly personal fit. The pad issue is a personal preference. The ventilation is phenomenal. I wore it on a road ride yesterday, and my head never got overheated. I think the solid colors are the best looking, I don't really like the new flag color scheme. The Nemesis-2 Pro is for anyone looking for great fit, great ventilation, and an extremely comfortable helmet. It's the first helmet I've worn that felt really light, almost like I didn't have one on. Got it at Price Point for $49.98, now they are on sale even cheaper for $39.98. I give it 5 flamin' hot dogs for value (price!), and 5 overall because it's a fantastic helmet. Go get one before they are gone!!

Bottom Line:Bought this only because I got an awesome deal when a dot.com went belly up. I wish I'd bought more for spares and friends. It's now my favorite helmet and I was largely a confirmed Giro owner because they always fit my head better than other brands. Adjustments on the Nemesis are easier than most helmets (although that's an area where almost all could use improvement) and I haven't tried on any helmet that's lighter weight and better ventilated yet.

My problem is head size - I need a large helmet, but a narrow one. I found some Giros that had the length, but were loose at the sides.

So I bought it and re-woked it with a pocket knife, taking out some material at the front and back. Now it fits great. BTW, the shop assistant told me that he had quite some customers with "nonstandard" heads who liked this helmet.

What's more, I really like the visor - it's shorter than some others and does not obstruct my view.

Strengths:Worked well when it counted - no damage to brain case after a headplant into solid rock in Slickrock Trail (Moab, Utah)
Fits well. Appeared solid enough even before crash.
Weaknesses:None for what it is meant to offer, however I'm going to buy something with face protection for aggressive mountainbiking and may buy a new Nemesis for more moderate stuff and roadbiking.
Bottom Line:Head planted on Slickrock (Moab, Utah) on last serious downhill of the 10 mile loop (on last day of a six day biking vacation out in Utah). Suffered face abrasions and two or three stitches to lower cheek, however head and neck were fine and that's what counts. Bottom line is that all helmets will meet standards that should save your life, however the fit of a helmet will increase protection and if it looks OK, then all the better. This helmet worked for me, and I'll buy one again.

Strengths:I read a post about the low visor and I thought you should know about something....

The 2000 version has fixed the problem, it also fits my head mucho better(if that was possible)...
Take a look!
Weaknesses:price?

Bottom Line:great helmet for a reasonable price. works well, and looks good. at least the black one does, not too crazy about the new tri-color ones though. haven't tested its crashworthiness, but feels good on my head all day. starp system works great, many adjustments possible, but takes a few minutes to set up the first time. also, seems like i need to pay attention to what i'm doing when i put it on, or else the straps get all twisted, but that's just me. also, the velcro on the pads seems to grab my hair when i take off the helmet, the velcro halves on the helmet extend from under the pads, a little trimming fixed that.

Strengths:Lightweight, excellent ventilation, great retention system, appearance
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:Bell Evo2, Bell Image Pro, Giro Exodus
Bottom Line:Excellent helmet, ventilation is just as good as the Exodus, but at smaller price. May not have styling as cool as the Exodus, but still great compared to most helmets on the market. Worth considering if Exodus or E2 are too expensive.

Weaknesses:None come to mind.
Similar Products Used:Specialized
Bike Setup:Irrelevant
Bottom Line:Bottom line: this thing fits my head like a glove. I tried on everything in the store and this is it. I felt like I was betraying Specialized, since it was their helmet that saved my life a week ago in a 4 foot head-first dive. But I couldn't get over how comfortable this thing was. The runner up in my "taste test" was the Giro Gila, but it sat too high on my head and didn't come down as far in the back. So in terms of comfort, looks, and safety I felt this was the best choice for an XC helmet, and you can't put a price on that. I happily paid my LBS the $85 and will do so again when it is time for another (which hopefully won't be anytime soon)... 5 flaming turds and two thumbs up, way up.

Strengths:Mad ventilation, you'd swear there's an A/C unit strapped to your head except the thing is featherlight
Oh, and it saved my life once coming off a jump the wrong way
Weaknesses:The silly little visor snapped in half. I need to break down and get prescription shades so I can do without that thing.

Bottom Line:This helmet rocks. Was dirt jumping on my cruiser wearing it and went to the hostpital, but didn't die; helmet saved my life. (I ordered a full-face yesterday so next time I'll not even make that trip to the ER.) Oh, and it comes in yellow, so that's cool, too. Shameless plug: if you live near Wash. DC, and want this lid, check out College Park Bikes, they're like $80 or something cheap like that (mail-order pricing, but you get to support your LBS - cool).

It straps onto your head, and it looks pretty, too. I have no need for another helmet for a long time, because this one does everthing right, and I'm completely satisfied.

Bottom Line:I am writing this review after actually having used the helmet for what it's meant. I had a high speed collision with a tree using my frontal lobe/face as a point of impact. My visor exploded into about 10 pieces, but my head was totally protected. I blacked out breifly, so I know the impact was significant - and the helmet did an incredible job - it didn't budge. I may be a little uglier now, but at least I'm not any stupider. This is a great helmet.

Bike Setup:

Bottom Line:Got my Bell Nemesis 2 Pro (funky olive green) from Performance with my dorky Team Member discount. It was $65 vs. usual price of $120. However, it is the 98 model which I think looks better thant hte two tone '99 ones. It fits relatively well, but does not leave my head as cool as I expected. However, it looks good (well, as good as a helmet can look--is definitely funky). I'm not ashamed to wear it (compared to my my helmet from 5 years back made by some company called Apex.) And I thought it was a steal for the price I got it for. Overall, pretty good. Good investment and protection.
