Strengths:they are the best forks for beginners. NO QUESTION!! they are great for on and off road and i highly recomend them to any confident begginer or intimediate
Weaknesses:the adjustments a bit stiff
Bike Setup:GT AGGRESSOR 1 WITH ROCK SHOX TT AND 27 SPEED GEAR SHIMANO DEORE
Bottom Line:IF YOU SPARE MONEY AND NEED SOME DECENT FORKS, I GARENTEE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED WITH THESE BUTIES, NOT ONLY DO THEY LOOK GOOD BUT THEY ARE BY FAR THE BEST FORKS AROUND FOR THE PRICE

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Came with bike
Strengths:-Durable
-Preload adjustment(works somewhat)
-Stiff enough
-Can easily take 2ft drops or more if you land them right
Weaknesses:-Adjustment doesn't adjust very much at all
-A little too stiff for the ruff stuff
Similar Products Used:N/A
Bottom Line:I found these shox AWESOME for me as I was just starting out into mtn biking when I got this bike a year ago. Ready to upgrade forks now however for the downhill stuff. This shock can easily handle 2ft drops as I said above (that's all I have done so far but looking for more).

Overall an AWESOME beginner-intermediate shock but could use a little more adjustment and would not recommend if you are already an intermediate rider!

Favorite Trail:Innerdalen in Trollheimen ("The home of Trolls")
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Strengths:Hard enough, looks good.
Weaknesses:Almost impossible to adjust (screw is almost stuck).
Lacks feeling over small bumps. A bit heavy.
Similar Products Used:Cheap RSTs, SunTours and Manitous.
Bike Setup:Scott Expert Racing 2002, with Shimano LX clipless pedals.
Bottom Line:An ok allround shock for xc beginners. It is stiff enough for me to climb standing, and copes alright with the downhill slopes. It definitely has a positive effect on my downhill abilities compared to a stiff fork, and it iss stiffer than any other cheap front shock I've tried. But I've missed the opportunity to adjust during ride; the adjustment got too hard to manage with the fingers in just a few months. This is my first shock, and I soon found out that I desire something with more feeling over small bumps, that is lighter, and with the lockout option for climbing and roads. So now I'm looking forward to getting my new Fuji Miracle with an RS SID Team with remote lockout :-)

Strengths:good for beginners, doesn't bottom out, good for 3-4 feet drops
Weaknesses:the preload adjuster is stiff, but all u have to do is take a monkey wrench and give it a turn. dont go too far...
stiffs during winter
dont give about weight

Bottom Line:came on my trek 4500. good on handling 3-4 feet drops if u know how to land them. the only thing that gets messed up on the drops is the rear rim. i wudn't say these shocks r heavy. i can jump 1.5 feet with them. once u get experienced enuf, u can get better shocks.

Strengths:Well made. Simple design. Smooths out the bumps.
Weaknesses:Grease lubricated, no oil. Requires taking fork apart to keep weel lubricated.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:Stock K2 Attack 2.0
Bottom Line:Fork works well. Stable and takes out the bumps. Needs to be well greased to work smoothly. Easy to disassemble. Use the spring to hold the shaft in the dummy leg from turning when unscrewing the bottom bolt. I made sure to get grease down on the lower bushing and bottom of the inner leg. There is a grease groove below the top seal but it will only lube the top bushing. Fork works well with sag set to specs, about 3 turns of preload on my fork. Competitors may need a high performance fork but this is a standard fork on recreational bikes and works well for that level of riding.

Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:It works... heavier weight ballances out my bike. My preload works. You can cut off the stupid plastic things. It's not that ugly. Other than oil and a rag not too much maintanence ever...
Weaknesses:Sometimes I get this loud thud sound if I jump off a ledge or something and the shock decompresses quickly
Similar Products Used:Friends Piolt, crappy walmart bike things...
Bike Setup:1997 GT Timberline Way to go CroMo, LX & Deore, Easton bars (love those) Everything else stock ( I only replace stuff when it breaks)
Bottom Line:Maybe I just got a good fork, or everyone else is stupid... I'm guessing the latter... I'm 130lbs and it does bottom out if you land on the front tire over 2 feet, but its gradual and not jarring, so I don't mind. Pretty stable and a good value for the price. I agree with the last guy, its not as much the bike as it is the rider. You can have a bike that cost as much as a motorcycle, but if you suck, you suck. No need to blame the componants, and if you dont like them send the stuff my way :) Oh yeah.. never wear spandex... ewe

Favorite Trail:City Creek
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $100.00
Purchased At:Barries Ski and Sports
Strengths:Excellent beginner to moderate fork. Some say this fork, due to the elastomer springs, has less travel in the winter but that isn't true. It is just a little stiffer, but I ride everday and I've noticed it still has just as much travel. I am an ex-bmxer and I think it's pretty safe to say I've put this fork through it's paces. It has passed with shining colors. Just keep it with in reason and this fork will impress you every time you use it. Remember, it isn't a downhill or big hit fork. It is a XC fork, and it does just fine for that.
Weaknesses:stiffens in the winter.
Similar Products Used:RST Omni, Manitou Six Sport
Bike Setup:Trek 4500w/bontrager corvair rims,Deore rear derailleur,Bontrager Jones AC tires,80mm Judy TT(03 Model), need to know more?
Bottom Line:This fork is not a DH or Big Hit fork. It would have a hell of a lot more travel if it was intended for that. It is a XC Fork and it works perfectly for that. I've raced people with FOX Forks, Marzochhi Forks, Rock Shox Dukes, and just about every other high end XC fork you can imagine. I have no problem saying with them through the rough sections. The rider determines what the fork can do, not the skeptics.

Strengths:pretty cheap/when purchased separetely/,good colouring and desighn,easily maintaneced.great preformance for the class.
Weaknesses:only one spring, requres good lube for good performance, has a little more play than there should be.tops out when is set for a softer ride/which i really hate/so it has to be on the stiffer side most of the time.could have been a little lighter, but i don't really mind.

Strengths:price, looks, durability
Weaknesses:weight
Similar Products Used:Manitou Magnum
Bike Setup:Gary Fisher Marlin w/ some upgrades. Shimano clipless pedals, XT bottom bracket, LX deraileurs, topo comp saddle , and Yeti grips.
Bottom Line:This fork came stock on my Marlin. Maybe I'm a light rider (160lbs)or its because of bike handling skills, but I haven't experienced any problems with this fork. The only downside so far is the weight. I've raced two Norba races on this fork in Sport class, and ride rooty singletrack usually three times per week, and so far it is doing fine. The preload adjustment does work somewhat. I prefer a more rigid fork anyway for climbing. Obvoiusly not the type of fork that you want to do big bomb drops on, but for an inexpensive cross country fork, go for it. Plan to upgrade it later, but not until it dies.

Strengths:Wow! Amazing! A $60 fork with lockout! And there's not buttons or anything needed to make it this way! It's just always rigid! Great for climbing! Gives hands a great workout on the downhill!
Weaknesses:hahahaha....this fork, for the most part, blows. AFter a while it doesn't compress anymore except for the bigger drops. then again, i'm pretty light but still, it's most unnacceptable.
Similar Products Used:rock shox
Bike Setup:trek with upgrades and stuff
Bottom Line:WEll, what can you expect from a shock with only one spring, and virtually no adjustment capabilities.(well, there is this little "preload" knob on the side, which doesn't seem to do anything and stopped moving after a few months) I bought this bike with the fork stock when i wasn't sure if i was going to be into moutain biking. I thought it was great at first because i'd only rode rigid. So i guess it's a decent fork for beginner folks, and if it gets you into one of the greatest sports out there, then it's done it's job!

Strengths:Price, Rock Shox, better than Capa.
Weaknesses:Bottoms out pretty easily, but still maintains
a good ride. Always topped out when pulling up
even the smallest wheelies or jumps.
Similar Products Used:RST Capa, Judy C

Bottom Line:An update on review a year ago.
Followed Andrew's example and modified my
dummy leg. Couldn't get the screw off the bottom
of the dummy no matter what I tried, so I went
in through the top. Took off cap, and dropped
in an old RST 63mm spring, then cut a piece of
Specialized Body Geometry hand grip (the thick side)
and used it to take up the space above spring.
Screwed top back on. Now hardly ever bottoms out,
only once on a very bad front wheel landing.
Doesn't top out. Lands like a completely different bike.
Different than Andrew's style, but works. Thanks man!

Weaknesses:Preload
Weight [I am not a weight freak, but it's heavy]
Bike Setup:Trek 4300 with nothing stock.
Bottom Line:If you are looking for an inexpensive way to upgrade a fork, and you don't want a fork where you are doing 5 foot drop-offs this is the fork for you. It's a very simple design, and it will do you good justice. If you do a large jump/drop-off you might bottom out. After you do this, the spring inside will spring you back, but that is to be expected of any spring coil fork. Good fork for the money.

Strengths:Scarce 1" steerer tube. Value..Put it on that old school hard tail sitting in your garage.
Weaknesses:Good riding technique must compensate for this heavy shock that lacks in features.
Similar Products Used:Duke
Bike Setup:95 Cannondale CAD 1, Tectro V's, Shimano XT Tranny front to back, WTB vel. raptors fr/bk, Black Mavics fr/bk
Bottom Line:I picked this up because it was the only fork with a 1" steerer tube and only paid 100 bucks. I slapped it on to my old CAD 1 Cannondale that I use for stamina training. I had no intentions of hitting any of the trails I ride with my NRS for fear I would blow the Judy TT up. After the first half hour of boring XC track I took my old school hard tail on some inverted drop trails. (no mountains in Florida so we ride dug out phosphate mines with snakes and aligators). Believe it or not it handles the man made 6-15 Foot Florida root laden descents and drops like a champ. I wouldn't recomend free riding or hard dropping but XC, technical and climbs if done with technique will not stress this fork. Good buy if you want to upgrade that old hardtail. It is what it is.

Strengths:none... well, maybe the rubber boots and the free sticker.
Weaknesses:Very low end shock. Something about the design sends you over the bars a lot. I realize this is not a DH or Free Ride shock and I don't expect to do drop offs with it but this thing can't even take a few small roots without bottoming out and sending you over the high side. Preload is a joke - I don't feel like it does anything at all.

Bottom Line:This shock comes stock on a lot of low to mid range bikes and is okay for *light* XC riding. I can't imagine actually purposely buying this shock as an upgrade - it sucks. Save a little bit more money and get something better. If there are any technical areas where you ride, or you like to do even very small drop offs or get any kind of air at all this shock will introduce your face to the dirt and sprain your wrists.

I give the lowest ratings since I don't think these are any better than Wal-Mart crap and are not worth a dime.

Weaknesses:Too heavy. The front of my bike is heavier than the rear. It feels very scary on the downhills and too heavy on the uphills. The only reason I bought it was because I was desperate for a 1" fork that would fit my bike and had spent the last of my money on the titanium frame.

Strengths:Good beginner fork, cheap, better than rigid and easy to service
Weaknesses:pogo stick effect, soft, no rebound/damping control
Bottom Line:If you stop to realize what the Judy TT was designed for you'll agree that it's not that bad. This is only one step up from Jett so don't expect it to handle 3-4 foot drops without bottoming out. For those cases go with a Marzocchi Z.2 or something similar. BUY BASED ON YOUR NEEDS!!

Strengths:Price... Standard equipment on a lot of bikes.
Weaknesses:Not very high performace. I can see how heavier riders could be disappointed.
Similar Products Used:Manitou, Cannondale
Bike Setup:Specialized HR Comp
Bottom Line:These things are on a lot of entry/mid level bikes mainly becauase they are reliable performers and cost next to nothing.

I am a light weight (155-160lb) so to me the fork works well within reason. I took this over the same jump I blew my Manitou on and it held... but will it last the season??? I will let you know, but I will not replace it till there is serious damage.

I am a little pissed that it is leaking around the boot already. Really, you have to spend $300 atleast for a good suspension fork... and I am not ready to replace it just yet.

Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Some shop
Strengths:I had to borrow these shocks for a while as my Marzocci Dirt Jumpers were being serviced. Hard to bottom out, can take big hits without flinch. (up to 3 meters). Solid.
Weaknesses:Crap springs, hard in cold weather & soft in hot weather. Needs frequent adjusting.
Similar Products Used:Marzocci Bombers (1-5), Some Fox shocks and rst crappers.
Bike Setup:Full deore lx/xt, single chain ring, Kore bars, stem etc.
Bottom Line:Do not jump these forks in cold weather as any beginner will most likely put it on a soft setting at the spring could pop out. DOnt listen to Micheal up there, he doesnt know anything. Perfect beginners shock. And yes the preload does do a little bit.

Date Reviewed: May 23, 2002
Duration Product Used:3 months
Purchased At:came as stock
Strengths:- cheap
- looks good to the untrained eye, proper bikers laugh.
- it moves a bit
- it does take bigger hits, it's the smaller stuff that hurts
-seems to run for quite a long time without a service due to the lack of any interanl parts.
Weaknesses:This fork has a number of flaws, but you have to remeber it is cheap, so it's not too fair to rip it to bits - however:

-Feels jerky and is debatable if it moves a lot of the time
-Heavy
-I'm not sure is the seals are any good cause they look terrible and things work their way inside the fork

The main problem is that it is so flexible. I fitted discs and the frok bends alarmingly when braking and vibrates. I really have no idea why it even has disc mounts. I'm not heavy and i'm using cross country brakes but still i'm scared. This flexibility is also noticable when bouncing along as you will be.

Even Vs can make this fork vibrake and chatter with their awsome stopping power.

Similar Products Used:some rst forks are proably comparable
Bike Setup:norco storm,deore mech discs
Bottom Line:A budget fork that will serve well. You will get fed up with it, it may suck but it gets the job done. Do not put discs near it. If you're heavy, it'll bend. If your light it just will not move unless you hit something square.

Do not buy this fork as an upgrade (although what you would be upgrading...) instead buy a better fork from the year before. As stock, well it's not worse than others in its price range but it's something you would want to upgrade in time. It is a good first supsension fork.

Similar Products Used:rst 381EL.... great value for money ($40US), cheaper than this fork

anyway... it would be good if the nice old people at rock shox could make the preload adjsutment actually do something, because it doesnt. oh, well.

its basically a really great fork (despite what i say) for the price. it suits anyone who wants to do some off-road stuff but not dropoffs more than about 2 feet. i say that because i broke the judyTTs on my brother's bike by doing some crazy stuff, but thats for another time............

Weaknesses:Just about everything, it bottoms out when you just look at it. This thing ain't plush at all, it feels like rubber band suspension, suckola
Similar Products Used:Everthing I have used is better than this.
Bike Setup:Giant Yukon
Bottom Line:Aweful fork. Not worth the price. Bottoms out when you are just riding along. Tried to ride a semi technical trail with this and I will never attempt that again. The suspension action feels like its connected with rubber bands. Low maintenance I guess, but I can't wait to break the thing. Rockshox hit a absolute low with this thing. I'd say this fork is for anyone who has no clue how a fork is supposed to fork, but if you have even the faintest clue of how a suspension fork is supposed to work, stay away from this thing!!! Just like the bike I got this on, I wish I could give it negative marks.

I Would recomend it for a full suspention rider who likes balance between the two. I especially like the sheathes, they are good for keeping it lubricated and protected. The pressure adjustment knob is easy to use and is placed at the top of the cylander for easy acess.

who should buy it? any-one who likes or has full suspention. You could use it for downhilling if you pre set it to be stiff. It is best for xc racing or riding. Ideal for some road biking. So stick to the trails with it and don't feel a thing!
