Bottom Line:This is a great Fork if you weigh less than 150 pounds and dont huck yourself too big. I wouldnt suggest this to a downhiller, its more the fork for a dirt jumper that wants a stiffer front end. If you can get this fork for $300 Canadian without a cracked arch, its worth it. Otherwise get a 2003 and up or a monster T. At least this fork is better than a BoXXer.

Price Paid: $450.00
Purchased At:some guy
Strengths:not too heavy, fairly stiff torsionally, although it still flexes a little, fits 8" barkes, nice chrome cause i peeled the stickers off
Weaknesses:stock springs are a little mushy for me at 6'9" 220lb. not really a weakness cause its to be expected. i've flattened this fork out many times on big stuff, big guys should just plan on the getting heavy springs and 10 weight oil or just get a monster if you want to really huck

Bottom Line:great freeride fork that will satisfy 90% of you, unless you are oversized and your jumps are oversized. still as good as its going to get until you bump it up to the monster. five flames for price cause i bought it used, i don't know how you guys pay the store price, its silly. five for value cause the new springs are cheap enough even if you do have to upgrade. ride on

Favorite Trail:cowboy up, Keystone
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $635.00
Strengths:LOTS of travel, looks cool, stiff, very adjustable.
Weaknesses:The only thing I can think of is it takes a little while to break in/ do adjustments.
Similar Products Used:Rockshox
Bike Setup:Mountaincycle San Andreas DH, Super T, Shorty Deluxe stem, Yeti Grips, Hayes hydraulic disc brakes (8 in. and 6 in.),26 up front 24 in the back.
Bottom Line:This fork is so sweet. It is great if you are a downhiller or a freerider doing big jumps and drops. It sucks up little bumps like they are not even there because it has 7 inches of travel. I have never flatted it out, and you never will because you can adjust it just the way you like! I recommend this to any downhiller or freerider looking for a long travel, very sturdy fork. I only took the value down one because it does cost over $600. It's still the best.

Bike Setup:2001 Kona Stinky Six with Mavic D321s, XTR, Maxxis, ect, ect, ect.
Bottom Line:Sweet fork. From the little that I have rode it so far (about 2 hours of jumping) it seems to get better with speed. I am just getting into FR and DH and I know this fork will be able to take anything I can through at it for a couple of years. If your a recreational rider that isn't super hard core, actual even if you are hard core get one.

Date Reviewed: January 11, 2003
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $650.00
Purchased At:Cove Bikes
Strengths:Stiff fork, but laterally, longitudinally, and torsionally. Not as stiff as the 2003 though.
Excellent response over smaller bumps - like butter.
HSCV dampening works awesome.
Very good adjustability via springs, oil weight, preload, and rebound.
Takes big hits very well.
Easy to work on, if necessary.
Excellent seals and internals.
Weaknesses:QR20+ release requires an allen key to remove flaps.
Initial setup was with very little oil, and soft springs.
Similar Products Used:Boxxers, Jr. T.
Bottom Line:First small run down a bumpy trail with this fork and I was grinning from ear to ear. It soaks up small bumps so well, yet you can hit larger gnarly roots and rocks straight on. Just point and ride. I did have to add a fair bit of oil when it was being installed, and if you're a heavier rider, going with heavy springs and a little extra oil makes the ramp-up better on big hits. Besides my 2.8 Michelin, it's the best money I've spent on a bike.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:my shop
Strengths:HSCV internals makes all the difference if properly tuned, cool looking in polished finish, true 170mm travel, zero flex, the best you can buy -it's marzocchi-
Weaknesses:mine (first production of november 2001) came with defective bushings and a too tight cartridge, making the fork to stick all the time
Similar Products Used:Z5 '01, Z3 flylight 130 '00, Psylo SL (not for long !!!), Boxxer '99, Jr-T '00, Judy C's.......
Bike Setup:'01 Kona Stinky, all XTR, Truvativ Crank, 321 rims on Formula DH91 front / XT 755 rear hub, Hayes hydraulics (8po front, 6po rear), FUNN Headpuncho stem, SolJam Vipers flat pedals, Easton Monkey bar DH, Axiom seatpost telescopic, FSA PIG DH PRO headset, Michelin rubbers (2.8 / 2.5), all the best parts ......
Bottom Line:First, put a good headset on your bike because cheap headset are going to break... Second, it is important that you check oil level depending on what you ride. Stock fork are getting up to 170mm but when dropping some 4-5ft and over drops, you hear clank sound. So, just add some oil but not to much because you will change compression ratio... This is a good level when: you get 160mm travel when pushing the fork down slowly, and 165mm on medium impact. more the impact is getting big, more you use the travel, 166-167mm... but never touch the bottom. Make some tests. And remember, HSVC cartridges slowes the bottom of the fork while the speed increase. It wont help on big drops... Stock oil is 7.5WT. The stock spring should be ok, use some highly effective preload! To finish, change oil more often then a single's because longer uppers means more chance you have to get dirt inside. When changing oil, check for small metal pieces in oil, if you found them in quantities, check for bushing / cartridge defects...
Otherwise, this IS an high performance fork designed for DH and extreme freeride. At 6.5lbs, it's light enough but a bit harder to run...you have to go big this fork...
If you need help to tune your fork, do not hesitate, im a bike mechanic, so if a can help you....

Similar Products Used:Boxxer,Z1,Jr. T, ect...
Bike Setup:2002 kona stinky dee, trailpimps,8" hayes minor adjustments in cockpit
Bottom Line:This is an awesome fork. All you people complaining about bottoming it out don't know what you are talking about, i can get mine to go through 95% of it's travel just bunny hopping but this doesn't mean i am bottoming it out. I weigh over 200 lbs so i know what it's like to bottom it out but i've only done it 4 times, in a year, with hard riding. And guess what, mine is totaly stock. When you bottom this fork out it makes the loudests CLAANKKKKKKKKK!! you have ever heard so you know you've done it. You see this fork is equiped with HSCV dampning(High Speed Valve Control) this means that it adjusts it's own stiffness for the speed of the hit. So your average parking lot hit which is a lot softer than you average drop hit will elt you use most of the travel. Brillant idea, props to marzochhi.

Weaknesses:30 m stanchions, boxxer has 32 m
Similar Products Used:marz dj 1

Bottom Line:this fork is not made for big guys doing drops to flat. my stanchion tubes sheared right off after repeted abuse. I originaly had problems w/ bottoming out but I was able to eliminate this problem by adding oil (chances are this is all that the other reviewer who bought new springs needed to do). even though i almost died when this fork broke i still thought it worked well and would consider next years model w/ ovalized 32 m sliders. if you weigh less than 180 lbs this fork tuned properly should be plenty.I'M STILL WAITING FOR THE SHIVER THAT THE LIARS AT MARZOCHI SAID THEY SENT 2ND DAY 2 WEEKS AGO.

Strengths:everything. this fork sucks up everything in its path and is remarkably stiff. Rides just as smooth as the day I bought it. It is not dead-feeling like last year's model due to new internals.
Weaknesses:none
Similar Products Used:monster, boxxer, jr. t, z3 LT
Bike Setup:2002 giant dh comp. stock except shimano dx flats, dual blackspire ring gods, odi grips and shorty stem
Bottom Line:This fork has the same internals as the monster and shiver. It tracks really well, is incredibly tough and requires ZERO maintainance. Best fork on the market right now. If you're going large consistanly or weigh over 180lbs then go for a monster. Otherwise, this is a perfect fork for freeriding. GET IT!!!!!!!

Bottom Line:whoa. this fork teaches me the difference between a sturdy single crown fork and a dual crown one. I have been riding Marzocchi forks almost exclusively since '99, and have come to love their very smooth action and total reliability. This fork is no different.

It is probably the best 7" travel fork available right now, only to be improved more for 2003 with 32mm stanchions replacing the 30mm stanchions used this year. I relied upon the advice of my good friends at Bike Doctor, who convinced me to get the Super T Pro instead of Jr T Pro. I'm glad I did. The fork has me pushing my limits in DH and FR, and I believe that by the end of this season I'll be a vastly improved rider, thanks to my new Bullit and Super T Pro. I'd buy one again, in a heartbeat.

Weaknesses:flexy
easy to bottom out
poor turning radius
QR 20 system is not efficient
Bike Setup:giant dh comp
Bottom Line:This is just my opinion based on my experience but this fork is only good for a lighter dh racer, it is not a extreme freeride fork my any means...i would but it on a lighter 6 " freeride frame if you are getting into freeriding. THis is my first dual crown fork and full suspension bike. I barely had a chance to use the fork before the brake arch completely snapped off from the right lower leg in a LIGHT tumble. I work at a shop so I sent it to the company and although i explained exactly what happenedand my situation they made me pay for a new M arch, although they put it on for free. The broken M arch was totally the fault of the fork. I also bought some heavier springs, because the heavys were not enough, i went to extra heavies with the preload all the way up, and although it made a little difference, i was amazed that i could still bottom the fork out on small drops. I weigh 165 lbs.

Bottom Line:It took me a while to figure out where the rebound knob is, and it needed a lot more oil than what I put in. I wish there is less low speed compression damping, but there is sufficient travel that can be tuned very progressive, so I can live with that. I got it for a low price, but have been since very impressed about the quality of the fork. I Switched from owning a Psylo XC and a boxxer to a Z1 FR and a super-t, and never regretted a bit the change.

Bottom Line:It is a great fork. Not to heavy, soaks everything up real good for a fork of its size. It would be nice if you could adjust the travel like with the Jr but the 20mm through axel is the way to go. If you want a amature level race fork that will last more than one season without some major service then this is it. As a sweet freeride fork for a not-so-much-up-but-more-down freeride bike its perfect. For a 7 and 6 inch setup it's perfect. Similar to a Boxxer but a little cheaper and its a Marzocchi... what more can you say.

Bottom Line:Hello big bumps you have met your match. Stick out of the box which is a good sign for longevity. Minimal twisting and for-aft movement. A fork that inspires you to bigger and faster things. Also does not appear to need the sstupid level of maintainance that rock shox require.

Bottom Line:off the hook!!!!!!!!! a great fork even for the full 800 dollar price it is worth it. IF YOU ARE A HARDCORE FREE RIDER OR BEGINNER OR INTERMEDIATE DOWNHILL RIDER/RACER DEFINATELY CONSIDER THIS FORK. NO WEIGHT CONSCIOUS PEOPLE SHOULD CONSIDER THIS AS A FREERIDE FORK.

Strengths:Stiff and plush, consistent rotor position when removing and installing wheel
Weaknesses:inflated advertising
Similar Products Used:z4, boxxer, lots of xc forks, Judy DH (all 80mm)
Bike Setup:don't laugh it works.... Trek 9500 (modified to approx 5" travel) 8spd xt group... Gordo rims
Bottom Line:The fork is super smooth, tracks well, has about average adjustability and isn't too heavy, but I only get 6.41" of travel, which is ok, but I expected a little bit better honesty... I checked travel with a zip tie, by removing the top caps and bottoming the fork.

Strengths:This fork can take anything, i can't feel little drops and the roof drops are like falling off a curb on my old fork, you gotta love it. The quick adjust knobs are life savers going up the hills and the QR20 plus dropouts are that much more confidence going downhill
Weaknesses:weakness?, HAH!, this fork doesn't know weakness
Similar Products Used:Marzocchi Z.1 dropoff
Bike Setup:Giant XTC AC 1, yeah, pretty much the phattest bike ever assembled with all of my upgrades of course. Raceface North Shore DH cranks with ISIS BB. Ringle Intense DH rims, Hayes hydraulic disc brakes, Gazzi 2.6, Rock Shox Pro Deluxe rear shock, uprgraded rear suspension 7.5 in of travel and of course the Marzocchi Super T pro up front
Bottom Line:This fork will go anywhere and do anything you want it to just as long as your not a XC rider. It loves the street when i'm going urban assault style and nothing handles the dirt better going downhill. Its well worth the price and will top any other similar fork in the market. This is a must for any rider who does more than just downhill.

Purchased At:Reality Bikes
Strengths:Everything! It has saved my but off some drops that a 5" Fork would have sent me over the bars on. It will take 6,7,8 ft drops no problem(just get back on the seat and yank up) I weigh about 195lbs and I had to get the X-heavy springs and use a 10 wt fork oil and now I can't bottom it out. It rocks. Feel the "Marzocchi Love"
Weaknesses:None
Similar Products Used:Monster T, JR. T, Z1 MCR,

Bottom Line:If you don't want to worry about anything when you're going off 6,7,8 ft drops then get the Zocchi. It's plush and stiff through Rock Gardens, and it will soak up anything you can dish out. Don't even look at RS, or M-----u, they may ba a little lighter, but when your going down, WHO CARES!

Strengths:Stiff, gotta love the 7 inches of travel, easily adjustable, smooth valving.
Weaknesses:Haven't come across any yet.
Bike Setup:2002 Santa Cruz Bullit, freeride kit.
Bottom Line:While the fork is a little too much travel for dual slalom (for my liking, anyway) it is unrivaled over rough downhills. It is also quite nice for freeride (I've landed on the front pretty bad a few times... fork soaked it all up and didn't even bottom). I haven't taken it on too wicked of a downhill yet, but I have high hopes and I feel that the fork will live up to my expectations. The fork is definitely stiffer than the Shiver, as well.
