Strengths:    Plush
Responsive
Serviceable

Weaknesses:    No boots - critical to mud and water
Easton legs tend to rotten

Bottom Line:
Quite a good hydra/air fork in its basis - great on any trail, lightweight and responsive. Probably would save your life (or at least helmet carrier) on deadly bump.
You'll definitely enjoy it unless you got to meet mud and water. I really do not understand, why RS does not equip their top forks with proper boots. Marketing plot? Hell knows.
Those dust wiper cups which came with the fork are just for decoration (or 'inline' off-road, perhaps). Don't do their job at all. Worse, they can accumulate s##t even during single ride, and thus scratch inner legs.
Water can therefore, get in, harming sensitive Easton legs.
Eventually had to replace those thingies with proper boots from old RS fork. Since then much less headache, God Bless.
So use LizardSkin and be happy!

Strengths:    very plush, great looks

Weaknesses:    a little bit of flex on fast downhills

Bottom Line:
This is a great fork for trail riding. It's so smooth and plush yet never seems to bottom out.It is not as flex-free or as direct in the steering as a pair of bombers but it rides so mutch better on all terain. This fork came standard on my KHS and untill I had riden the bike for the first time I thought I would swap the SID's for something a bit more solid but after 6 months trail use I would not part with them. So far I have had no trouble at all with these forks.

Strengths:    Light for the amount of travel, really easy to overhaul

Weaknesses:    XXX seal pulled up once.

Bottom Line:
The reason for writing the review is to report about how easy this fork was to overhaul. The XXX seal had pulled up and I decided that it was time. A great LBS helped and the fork feels better now than it ever has, and I bought it "like new". It took a max of 1 1/2 hours and the thing is plush.

Strengths:    Good for the price.

Weaknesses:    Little too much flex in the crown, Seal/bushing problems. Could use some improvement in the compression dampening.

Bottom Line:
(See earlier review 10/13/01) RockShox (now division of SRAM) had some problems with the seals and bushings in this design. They rebuilt mine under warrenty - replaced all of the seals and bushings. It took about a month to return.

I had problems with the left seal popping out of the stantion. Since it made a loud pop, I managed to stop before the dirt could do any damage.

This one could use better compression dampening. It tends to bob under hard pedaling. Running the pressure up to 95 psi in both tubes helps some. Haven't put any time on the new seals yet. Couldn't wait a month, so I'm now running a Duke SL 100.

The fork works best for someone about 130 to 160lbs. If you are over 200, the RS Duke SL 100 is a better choice.

Strengths:    powerfull, takes all small and big hits with ease, easy adjustable

Weaknesses:    None?

Bottom Line:
The SID 100 '01 is a reliable fork that can match hisself with many other high quality forks. It works small and big hits without much effort away. also the adjustability is very easy to use and easy to clean. Only the rubbers at the fork are a little easy to open, so i don't know if it's taking much dirt in the air chambers. If you are a MTB driver that does ride cc-race, than you should buy this fork. If you drive on open terrain, then you should buy another fork.

Strengths:    Light. Smooth travel.

Weaknesses:    A little flexy. Blown seals.

Bottom Line:
Rode for a year and absolutely love the fork. Having to air up before is a bit of a hassle compared to the 'zoke but the plushness is worth it. The SC boys recommended this fork as a good match to the 4" rear travel of the Superlight.
Fork is now on its way to RS for the seal repair. Shop wanted to fix but RS wanted it back and after reading reviews, I know why. RS says 2.5 weeks to repair. Guess I'll be on my OCLV hardtail for a while.

I still believe I made a good purchase, as long as RS fixes this thing for good.

Strengths:    It looks hot
It delivers lots of smooth travel
It has very little stiction

Weaknesses:    None, so far.

Bottom Line:
This fork is a great deal for those who want a little extra travel and still keep the weight down. Sure, you could buy a fork with the same travel that requires less maintainence or has a lock out, etc, etc--but it will weigh 1-2 pounds more.

If you bob on the climbs, perhaps you should change your riding style.

Granted, I have just gotten this fork, but I could not be more pleased with its performance.

After reading all of these reviews, I have to ask, what do you want for 100 mm travel at a little over 3 lbs?

Strengths:    Quality construction, smooth action, light weight, can take a hit without bottoming out. No seeping or leaking.
Including a high quality air pump was a nice extra touch.

Weaknesses:    Not Sid, call me Bob. Under a hard sprint, the fork bobs up and down. At 75 psi and damper set to full has a little less bob but has a mushy feel. The bobing is sucking up energy and slowing me down.

Some flex in the crown

Bottom Line:
The fork is easier on my wrists. I was hoping that the suspension fork would keep the tire on the ground on the rough track. It does show some improvement on rough corners.

The dampining needs a rework. I would prefer very little dampining on the rebound stroke to keep the wheel in contact with the ground. The compression stroke is where you need all of the dampining. A spring loaded valve to bias the compression side would eliminate the bob. The idea here is that it would take a few pounds of oil pressure before the fork would start to compress, but on rebound, the fork would drop with little resistance. Forget about lockout devices, it needs to be totally automatic.

The air spring works fine. I did notice the part about how air pressure can affect total travel. For me it's not a problem, but someone around 100 lbs would need a lighter rebound spring.

The SID seems strong enough to handle my weight (235lbs) but forging some ribs into the front and back of the crown and around the fork tubes might make it more rigid without changing the weight.

I'll do another review after I've had a chance to talk to tech support.

Strengths:    Stunning fork. Beautifully made. Astonishingly effective rebound control (1/4 of a turn is the full range of adjustment, but each little bit of that makes an obvious difference)and adjustable air pressure makes this fork able to handle commuting and wild offroad and anything else with ease. Less then 1" bob when set to full slow rebound/75psi and with bike fully loaded and me standing on pedals up a hill. Holds air pressure extremely well. Quiet. Doesn't top out ever. Great to just look at. Get the picture?

Weaknesses:    Er.....I don't like black??? I guess it would be useful to have the rebound control on top of the crown so I could adjust it on the move like I used to with my MG21's.

Bottom Line:
Forget the cost.Just go buy the best all round fork in the know universe - the 01 SID 100.

Bottom Line:
This shock works so much better for my wife than her Marzocchi Z2 Xfly for plushness and travel. Where the Xfly was sticky, this fork is plush.

I think it's a testimant to RockShox's negative spring design because Marzocchi is copying it on the Marathon!!!

However, for lighter riders like my wife (109 lbs), you do not get a 100mm fork!!! For her, I run 30 psi and the fork actually "settles" in its travel due to the negative spring.
At 30psi, her max travel available is 73mm!! And this is not a sag issue. This is without any weight on the bike.

And it's not just her fork. The local bike shop owner and I
lowered the pressure on his SID XC and it did the same as my SID 100. For every 10 psi lower, the overall travel on the fork decreased.

So for you light weight riders out there running low pressures in your SID, you are getting less travel than you paid for! Here are the numbers...

Pressure// Max travel SID 100// Max travel SID XC

70psi// 100mm// 84mm
60psi// 95mm// 84mm
50psi// 91mm// 79mm
40psi// 82mm// 75mm
30psi// 73mm// 70mm
20psi// ??mm// 61mm

Bottom line though is that it is still the best fork we have tried for her. I just wish we could get the full 100mm...

Strengths:    I found that the plushness of the fork was a great improvement from my last fork (manitou SX-R). the extra travel ws also a plus and the low weight was good.

Weaknesses:    My left seal was never put in properly, and i had to fix it on my first ride, and than had to overhal my fork.

Bottom Line:
This fork was designed to make mountain biking fun again. A light weight 4 inch travel fork was neither designed for xc racing, or downhilling. This fork was designed for people who want enjoy mountain biking.

Strengths:    Very plush. Reasonable weight for amount of travel you get. Easy adjustability. Nice rebound damper.

Weaknesses:    Bushings could be longer...

Bottom Line:
I was shocked to see that this fork doesn't have a five star rating. I have raced/trained on this thing for a year with no problems. Only changed the oil twice. I haven't had any seal problems and unless you want a fork that weighs an extra pound you should expect a little less stiffness. My only complaint is that I may have to replace the bushings in another month or so.

Strengths:    Best riding fork I ever had. Smoothest, most natural compression / rebound ever. Easy to set up. Light for 4 inch fork. My disc calipers don't interfere with my roof rack... Those with disc brakes will understand...

Weaknesses:    BLOWN SEAL! It's also kind of flexy but a willing trade for the light weight.

Bottom Line:
Loved this fork!!! Unfortunately, as others have stated, there are some major issues. I started noticing some oil on stanchions and around the wipers on left leg as I rode. That was about a week ago. Fork performance is declining rapidly. Called Rock Shox for RA number - They are quoting a THREE WEEK TURNAROUND!!!! Uh, it's a brand new fork and three weeks is a significant part of the season. Why not warranty and replace the whole freakin' thing and when I mail mine back in, rebuild it and sell it to pricepoint or supergo? There's probably a huge market for rebuilds. That way everyone is happy. Three weeks is ridiculous. C'mon Rock Shox, quit Duke'ing out so much $$$ on the ad campaigns for all of the old forks you renamed and train another tech or two to service the product!!! Obviously, this line has problems.

I'm not going to flame but another review is coming after Rock Shox or I rebuild this baby.
