Favorite Trail:North Yorks Moors
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $50.00
Purchased At:eBay
Strengths:Its a Voodoo
Weaknesses:Weight
Similar Products Used:Being a retro tightwad this is my first experience of suspension, only just started using STI in 2007!
Bike Setup:XT, Fox float front and rear
Bottom Line:Bought from local eBay seller a year ago in A1 condition for £50 with LX gear and spare tyres! used parts to build wifes bike and upgraded this to XT. Rock Shox front and rear, rear crap so changed both to Fox.

What a ride!

And its a classic!

If you see anything designed by Joe Murray, buy it

Favorite Trail:Jim Thimson trail, Cameron Highlands
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1200.00
Purchased At:Local Bike Shop
Strengths:It flies downhill and it climbs like a mountain goat! I like the color(red). Call it the Red Devil!
Weaknesses:The rear suspension. It bottoms up with a big "clunk" evertime I hit a big bump. I am going to change to air shox when it's time.
Similar Products Used:none
Bike Setup:LX Crank, Xvert front fork, Deore Front/Rear Derailuers, XTR cassette, Race Face seat post, Titec Stem, XTR shifter/levers combo, Avid 10 brakes, XT hubs, Valiant rims, WTB Velociraptor tires, oddysey magic clik platform clipless.
Bottom Line:For a 28 pounder, this bike is really fun to ride after it has dialed in. It climbs very well on dirt but not so on tarmac pavement unless I stand on bike to deactivate the rear suspension(I guess this is one down side about URT design). The bike is a little psychotic(very eager to go down fast) but once used to it, it is real fun to play on technical DH. Great bike for weekend cross country ride.

Strengths:
Inexpensive - Five Franklins ($500)
Tough - Huge tubing, fat welds
Weaknesses:
Rear shock - Rock Sh*t SUCKS
Bent seatpost already
Brakes rattle a lot
Similar Products Used:
Specialized Hardrock
Bike Setup:
Manitou SX-D fork, Shimano STX components
Titec seatpost
Bottom Line:This bike rocks! Can't ask for much more - for what I paid. Sweet paint job, looks awesome and beefy. Fits me nice (Large frame), a little twitchy (might switch to 100mm double triple clamp fork) but you get used to it. The brakes rattle like hell over rocks. Cable routing is a little weird, but it seems okay so far.

Favorite Trail:
all asheville trails
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
frame and geometry
good bike for cross country and downhill
Weaknesses:
- rear suspension(Rock Shox Deluxe)
- Tires
- shifters
Similar Products Used:
Cannondale super V 500
Bike Setup:
XT shifters,WTB Enduro raptors, LX 99 V brakes
Bottom Line:The bike was equipped with a Z1 BAM whitch allows me to go to any trails for cross country and super steep downhill specilly designed for DH bikes (or brainless poelpe). It's fast, relativelly light (exept for the fork...3.9 pounds)and very rigid. The bike can take a lot of punishment on technical trails and specially on rocks and roots. The zobop is also good looking if you close your eyes when you take a look at the fork (burgundy and orange don't go well toegether) Beside that, it is an exellent bike.

Strengths:
Excellent first FS bike
Weaknesses:
Rear shock
Bottom Line:Bought this bike for my son , age 13, so he could start racing here in Texas and for what I paid ($719) got an excellent deal. He loves it, and shows more control on downhill and technical situations. This is his first FS bike and the rear shock we can ungrade. For parents that want a good deal and don't want to go broke on a good bike, this is the best deal going.

Submitted by Flakey a Cross-Country Rider from Littleton, CO
Date Reviewed: June 4, 1999
Duration Product Used:
3 months
Strengths:
Light, low standover, racy geometry
Weaknesses:
URT
Similar Products Used:
Trek Y-22
Bike Setup:
Manitou SX-R fork, Cane Creek AD-10 rear shock (both added by me - came with Manitou Pro & Rock Shox Deluxe). XT/XTR components.
Bottom Line:When I first got this bike, I hated it, mostly b/c it came with a crappy rear shock that banged and clattered with every impact to the rear wheel. I had my LBS check it out to be sure the shock was properly connected and that the rear triangle was properly attached. Everything checked out, so I decided to replace the low end Rock Shox Deluxe shock with a Cane Creek AD-10 air shock. What a difference!!! No more banging around and a huge improvement in the quality of travel. I have noticed more pedal induced bobbing than I'm used to compared with my Y-22, but I suspect much of it will be alleviated as I get the rear shock dialed in. But I digress. This thing handles like it's on rails and I found I was able to bomb down my favorite technical trail - giving due consideration to other, non-biking, trail users of course - with a lot more confidence than with my Trek, which is taller and not as quick-handling due to the triple clamp X-Vert R I put on it. Bottom line, if you're looking for a quality point and shoot dual suspension machine at a reasonable price, you could do a hell of a lot worse than a Zobop.

Quick, responsive, tight. A joy to ride after spending so much time on a hardtail.
Weaknesses:
Poor placement of the water bottle mounts.
Similar Products Used:
Gary Fisher FS
Bike Setup:
Mix of LX, XT components, Titec goodies.
Bottom Line:My first FS ride. Came with a Jett XC, (its only drawback) but will upgrade to Marzocchi later. Cleaning hills that I never cleaned before, bouncing on stuff that I never would have tried with my hardtail. Took off the Wellgo 800's in exchange for Shimanno M515's. Everything works like a dream. I love this bike.

Weaknesses:
Stearing stem design tend to work loose under extreme conditions.
Similar Products Used:

Marin Eastpeak
Bike Setup:
Got Manitou Spyder R up front and Rock Shock Delux on the back. Gear components mainly STX
Bottom Line:An ideal weekend go crazy weapon with heaps in reserve if you want to get even more serious. I would anticipate it would make a reasonable race bike with higher grade components. Set up as is mine is just fine. A good quick handling bike with enough stability to encourage you to attempt the totally rediculous.

Bottom Line:

Wuz a little hesitant to buy a bike mailorder but got one helluva deal on a closeout Zobop and have no regrets. Have used the extended season here to hit Island Lake, Novi tree farm and Stoney Creek. After finally upgrading from a 4 year old hardtail, this is like heaven! I am climbing hills now that I couldnt before, and when flying downhill I dont even touch the brakes because of the feeling of total control I have. A couple of the components could use upgrading but this is reasonable considering the price I got the bike for.

My Voodoo has seen singletrack on the Columbia River Gorge, OR Lake Shasta, CA and Rocky Mountain National Park, CO. With Marzocchi bombers and LX components, it is the most comfortable full suspension bike I have ever owned. Rear derailer hanger bent, Voodoo isn't the quickest company to get you the parts, but their name speaks for itself. 4 jalepenos.

Submitted by Keith a weekend warrior from Auburn, Ma
Date Reviewed: October 13, 1998
Bottom Line:

I rode my Zobop for the first time this weekend and it was fun to ride. It is much smaller(18.5) and lighter than my hardtail ( 21.5 Trek 820, indy xl's) so it will take some time to get used to the handling. I never would have believed that the weight of the bike could be important in climbing given 185 lbs sit on 30lbs, but I was amazed at how ascents were that much easier on the aluminum frame. Riding on the road to get to the trail, there are some hills and I hate the bounce on each stroke, so lowest gear and pedal like crazy. Got the bike mail order for $735 with Manitou Pro LT's, lx, xt mountain mix and I think I got a deal. Four out of five for this baby.

Date Reviewed: October 1, 1998
Bottom Line:

I got me Zobop with a Manitou Lt Pro and the ride and design are as nice as I'd want. The bikes got a mix of Alivio, STX, STX-RC, LX, and XT (leaning toward LX. To begin: the bike looks like a princess in a sweet powder-coated crimson; the components are chrome and the rest is a subtle black. I could gaze at the bike for hours is I had time--but why look when I can feel its beauty! The Zobop as well handles, feels, and rides magnificent. Everything Voodoo boastes about their bikes is absolutely truth. The susp. is great and smooth as a slicker... The only thing I do not like is the RockShox deluxe is a wee-bit hard to adjust because of the frame.
Besides that, my VOODOO ZOBOP is the, ahem, sweetest mofo sonavab* on 2 *@^( wheels. But that's just it. It's so nice I spend hardly any time on the ground...

Bottom Line:

I am enjoying the hell out of mine! It is a little on the heavy side, but I don't notice until I pick up someone else's hard-tail. I am only 135lbs. so the rock shox delux suits me just find and I can bomb down hills. The manitou pro lt is a great fork and keeps the ride pretty darn smooth, but I am definitely going to upgrade the stx fr der and crank -- after they wear out. It could also use some clipless pedals.
As it stands now, I'll give it four super solid chilies leaning towards a five.
The frame is definitely a five, but my bike sent me into a huge patch of poison ivy of which I am still recovering (gotta blame something other than yourself, right?!?)

This bike is awsome. I experienced only a little noised from the rear bearings but a little LPD 9 fixed it. Put a z2 Bam on it and this thing floats on the trail. Just sit down and enjoy the ride, long rides now. The suspension will help you climb better than on a hardtail too. Well I give it five chili's

I just got a zobop a few weeks ago and it is awsome!!! I have a manitou with 80mm in the front, i love it. I was riding in Winter Park Colorado (ski resort, beter than Vail), down hilling from the chairlifts, and my bike did great!! It was hailing and all the trails were flooded but my Zobop still held up. I have XT shifters, levers and derailer, they make the bike good for going up and down. I will give this bike 10000000000 chilies and then 6 more for me(I like chilies!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Bottom Line:

Simple design, extremly manuveurable and nimble, sprints quickly for a FS, No swingarm flex, a tad on the heavy w/Z1, you can pick em up cheap with of coarse cheap components, as you add all XT and a KILLER BOMBMER fork you'll shell out $1300, not bad for an intermediate.

Submitted by Motan a weekend warrior from Singapore
Date Reviewed: March 12, 1998
Bottom Line:

To be really honest I found the bike a joy to ride. It descends great and is still fairly light for a full suspension
bike. Unfortunately the rear sus semms a little to active at times. ( Rock Shox Deluxe ) When accelerating out
of the saddle or for that matter, pumping while still in the saddle, the rear 'pogo's. This makes the bike slow on
the climbs and short sprints. My bike came with a Zokes front suspension fork whick had 50mm of travel and
I found myself bottoming out alot. Regardless of these flaws, which can be corrected easily with a change or
tune of the sus, the bike is still alot of fun and the light weight means that you can catch really big air on it.
Overall a really good bike and when I have enough money I am definitely upgrading the sus. The bike rules
and Joe is a genius.....Nough said
