It is very fast and great for climbs. It is not a downhill bike although it has inspired confidence in me for all types of riding. The bikes strength is its frame , which is the best frame i've ever had. Great bike , but if you were to upgrade componentry you would have a top of the range race bike. Thats it, no real weaknesses. | | Similar Products Used: | Muddy fox, other treks, Scott, Kona. This is faster than them all. | | Bike Setup: | Original frame, otherwise upgraded with all xt, club roast risers, hope quick release,Duke Racing Forks. | | Bottom Line: | This is a great bike. The frame makes it a classic worth keeping and upgrading. You can race and win XC, but this bike can also handle anything you chuck at it. I've bounced down mountain sides in the lake district and Scotland that people were climbing down. As long as you adjust your seat this bike just gives you so much control and confidence. I wanted a complete bike that was set up, right out of the box. This bike was it. Climbs well and handles great. Tight singletrack is what we have here and this bike LOVES it. Put some playing cards in the spokes, held to the frame with clothes pegs to make it sound like a motorbike. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is the mutts nutts. I can not fault it. I really beat up my bikes and it the toughest one i have | | Weaknesses: | this bike is very stiff and angle forward so it is awsome for climbing, but u gatta watch it when u come bombing down the trail, I have flipped more than a few times. The wheels seem good too, light and strong and pretty capable of keeping the english mud out of the bearings. Transmission not so great, I'm dubious about the Icon chainset and rings as I've suffered really bad chainsuck. All in all a really good ride though. Just put the first 50 miles on my new 1999 Trek 7000. It has been seriously upgraded from 1998, and costs about the same (I paid $860). I'm a 37 year old steer at 255lbs. and wore out a bunch of 21 year old kids. This bike can really climb. The Judy XC's worked great, even at my weight. Five Flaming Chili's! | | Overall Rating: |
