Date Reviewed: April 22, 2000

Strengths:    $199 for fsr specialized frame, good name for no-name price

Weaknesses:    since this is a 96 it could be lighter and have more travel compared to 2000 model.

Bottom Line:
Bike is in 29 lb range, I'm sure the RST coilover rear shock will need replacing next, looks tiny and minimal for my 185 lbs. Even with the ancient 1 3/4" travel Manitou this bike beats my old hardtail. Even though I've little time on this frame I could feel the imbalance front to rear. With the Z-2 alloy I'm putting on it should be much better, I'll likely feel the rear shock shortcomings

Favorite Trail:   Nisene Marks park

Duration Product Used:   6 months

Similar Products Used:   Only other full suspension bike I've ridden is my buddys Boulder Gazelle, even older technology than my 96 FSR sport.
The FSR beats the Boulder for weight, traction and comfort. It just was easier to ride, Boulder was stiffer and twitchy.

Bike Setup:   Bought the frame out of magazine, changed out my 92 trek carbonfiber hardtail to new frame, so some stuff is old school. 98 XT shifters,V-brakes,B.B.,Derailers,Bullseye hubs,Cook cranks, 737 SPDs,some chi-chi titianium bits,Manitou 2's,which I will be replacing with some 99 Marzocchi Z-2 alloy that were new take-off, for $100, Score!
