$400.00 | | Purchased At: | From CoWorker Spokes | | Strengths: | This bike hands down is awesome. Its light, fast, and good looking. Its perfect for single track ,fire roads and the daily commute. The way I have it setup currently it weighs in at 20lbs. Best of all the bike is autographed by Ned Overend and its Neon GREEN! | | Weaknesses: | None | | Similar Products Used: | Bontrager Hardtail

Mavic crosstrail wheels for off road and a Crossride for commuting. I am running 26x1.0 tires for commuting and 26x1.3 cyclcross tires for off road. I really enjoy the rigid set up it works very well on this bike. I would recommend this frame to anyone looking for a great hardtail. $475.00 | | Purchased At: | craigslist.org | | Strengths: | Arguably the greatest off the rack race frame ever built. Smooth ride, light, fast climber and stable down hills. Unreal on singletrack.
| | Weaknesses: | Haven't found any yet. | | Similar Products Used: | '97 Kona Hot, Reynolds 853 (stolen out of car) | | Bike Setup: | Stock, all XT except for XTR rear derailleur, Ritchey everything else (love the steel seatpost, absorbs bumps), Manitou SX Ti forks (kept lubed and filled with oil), Salsa seat (comfy) | | Bottom Line: | Found this bike on craigslist in '03. It had sat in this guys garage for six years only ridden on the road and on fire trails for a grand total of about 200 miles. He even threw in a pair of Specialized Fatboys (really skinny slicks) with tubes for free. My all time dream bike purchased at essentially 75% off. I was laughing as I rode the bike to my car after the purchase until I flipped over the handlebars from hitting the XT v-brakes, good times. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1800.00 | | Purchased At: | Performance Boulder | | Strengths: | Stiff, has handled everything with a Firm, yet eager attitude (yeah hills)- has handled wheelie drops, ramps, and 100 mile races, dessert sands, rocky and rooty and -lumbery?- new england-- all in stride. | | Weaknesses: | Ritchey components- based on my experience with them on this bike- I'll never purchase. (Pedals very poor, the 31.5 post is not designed by anyone who knows what 'human factors engineering' is- get a shim-).
Oh- I almost forgot!!- I now have a nice smooth XTR bottom bracket(have had it 4 years- flawless)- I swear, though, when I pulled the original out after it developed 2 mm of play (!)- I thought I was looking at a k-mart bike (plastic sleeve, free bearings and all-). The worst spec. ever! (Other than Giant putting 7speed kmart chains on 9 speed mid/high end bikes). I can hear the marketing guys now: "no one ever looks at the bottom bracket, just the rear derailleur". Though in fairness, and in contrast, the rest of the specs were great (other than those pedals). | | Bike Setup: | XT/XTR; raceface cranks, Zochhi Marathon up front (that manituou sx-ti was crappy; Manituou sx-r- was awesome). Time atac, rock shox susp seatpost, hayes/king/517/317 rims- Magura disc brake up front (not recommended- have an air leak in the master cylynder). | | Bottom Line: | I'd love to hate this bike- I've moved to wanting a full squish and this thing won't die. Every inch of mountain biking I've done (Moab, Colorado, New hamshire, Virginia, California, Upstate NY) has been on this frame (all components replaced at leat once except the cranks, which are still original. (If you're curious- the rear xt hub and xtr v-brakes were the only things to last- I swapped out the flat bar and chopper-long stem early on- so no fair to say they lasted). My next frame will probably be a truth- I'll probably sell this- my baby- since it's been a bit small (I've actually grown since I got it when i was freshman in college!). This is such a stiff frame I'd always thought I'd break it-it's held up to very tough riding--I'm really impressed. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Extremely responsive and controllable at high speed and tight corners without having any troubles. In essence, this bike is almost telepathic when it comes to performce. The components are as good as it gets without breaking the bank. | | Weaknesses: | It's NOT a cushy/forgiving ride (go get yourself a cruiser with a suspension seat if that's what you want). You can basically buy a used car for the price of a brand new one, but I still prefer to ride. | | Similar Products Used: | 9700 Trek carbon fibre | | Bike Setup: | XTR/Deore XT mix, Thomson seat post, Mavic X517 rear wheel with older 217 sunshine front wheel(it's damn light!), Manitou SX Ti shock(I know time to upgrade) | | Bottom Line: | This is a "dream bike" for any average Joe, The sheer speed I get from this bike is almost too much at times(topped it out at 60km/h or 38mp/h). I feel like I could lay down a rubber patch if I had slicks, thankfully I have those trusty XTR brakes, yeah!. I like to ride to work & back (44km round trip or 28 miles), and the stiffness is not an issue in city riding in terms of comfort. Plus the fact that I can brag about getting to work 20 min quicker than public transportation is always something to glow about. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Also have had problems with stripping the crank. | | Similar Products Used: | Klein Adroit Specialized StumpJumper Comp | | Bike Setup: | ?? Set up for what? Mainly original parts... new tires... Wouldn't trade it for the world, I don't even let my girlfriend ride it. Amazing bike, and even when it lets me down, Speciaized comes to the rescue. Quick story; in England last year, riding the cliffs of the south west coast, and my hub body rode itself into the hub and seized. Totally my fault; I hadn't tightened it in properly, and was reaming on the bugger up the cliffs. Anyway, Specialized UK (I bought the bike in Canada) sent me a rear wheelset within 5 days to a campsite that I was stranded at in the middle of nowhere. Thanks to a great company, my holiday suffered no more than a hiccup, in what could have been a catastrophe, seeing that I had no money, and was hundreds of miles from home. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I got the frame from Supergo for $398 and I slowly accumulated the rest of the parts from various sources. The bike handles like a dream the way its set-up with Dirt control/master tires. The one beef I do have with the frame is that the derailleur hanger is extremely easy to bend. My other Specialized bike also has this trait too. I've never had one break off or had a derailluer get messed up but a fall from walking speed will bend the hanger. You can staighten the hanger with a little pratice and a 5mm allen wrench but I got tired of doing that about three months ago. My biggest problem is that my frame is not straight (the seatstays aren't straight) and since I got the frame mail order I really don't have any easy way to get it fixed. Chalk it up to eperience but the next bike I get will definitly be from a local dealer. Don't overlook the value of your local dealer especially if they give good service. The extra $$ will be worth it in the long run. The shop that pressed my headset (East Coasters) in me for turned out to be one of the best discoveries I've made since I started riding. If thres a moral to this story it's to check out your LBS before searching the net for deals. I had no trouble putting the bike together or choosing the components (I read the reviews before I buy) but now that I have a problem I don't have any easy options open left. Either take it apart and send it back and hope to God someone takes care of the problem quickly or ride it like it is. From now on I know I'll be spending alot more time at East Coasters and alot less time on the net. | Overall Rating: |

My skills improved dramatically, I had so much control, handling was awesome! As corny as this may sound I literally became one with that dahm bike, I was comfortable & confident! Large obstacles became an inviting challenge rather than an dangerous situation (up and over!). Call it the placebo effect if you want, but Geometry does make a difference. I must mention as most of us know, manufacturers design XC bikes for the average weight riders (150-175lbs);After 8 months of abuse, myself being 6'5 210lbs and a very aggressive rider I did break the frame(cross-tube between the chainstays). Not to worry, frame life time warranty! Specialized set me up with a brand new 98 team red edition frame two weeks later. No problems with the tortured 98, one year later. Still light enough for XC and due to the 100mm on the front great for playing around and jumping on. The M2 is by far the stiffest frame i have ever ridden and is arguably the greatest hardtail ever. Acceleration is superb and just point the front in the direction you want and the rear follows with ease. This bike really enhances the joys of mountain biking in every aspect. | Overall Rating: |

Here's the story. I had two x-country full suspension bike (GT RTS & DB V-Link Pro) for about 1 year. I got annoyed at how heavy they weighed (even thought the V-link was upgraded with parts to weigh 24 lbs.) At the end of 1998, mail order was selling frame only for $399. I knew that the S-Works M2XX was a well renowned bike, so I decided to test it out. Before I made any orders though, I went to local retail store to try it. 3 seconds after I got on, I was in love. Even for this mediocre stock set-up, the bike felt very smooth and manueverable. Great acceleration as well as breaking. So without hesistation, I called the mail order place and bought the frame and some parts that I would need for it. I put the bike together and I love it, even though I might need new pedals (Bebops are a pain in the a##). My version of the S-Works is as follows.....weight 21lbs. Titec 118g bar, Syncros hinged stem, Chris King headset, Chris King Hubs, Mavic 517, SX-Ti fork, XTR brakes/shifters, XTR 175 crankset, Bebops, XTR front/rear derailleurs, Syncro alum. seatpost, and Salsa skewers. | Overall Rating: |

I have owned at least 12 different mountain bikes over the last 13 years ranging from fully rigid, through fully suspended bikes, and I can honestly say that my 98' S-Works M2 is the best ride to date. The truck-like handling of my dual suspension ride(97GT LTS1)is plush but left me wanting a lighter, better handling machine for singletrack use. The S-Works has not dissapointed, with its responsive scalpel-like precision handling. When I ride this bike I can get back to enjoying the basic fundamentals of riding that were somehow lost, or at least misplaced with my dual suspension rigs. The dollar to performance value is unmatched, and the component selection leaves little to be desired. As far as negatives the Ritchey pedals suck, and I have had some oil leakage from the SXTI (Answers problem). The color, which is very similar to my lawnboy mower, takes a little getting used to but is not necessarily a negative. To date the bike has 747,s, an Ibis Ti stem, Titec 118 bar, Titec bar ends, ratty but comfortable and light Flite saddle, and a new Moab Propost suspension seat post. The ti parts and propost take the sting out of the stiff M2 frame without compromising handling and weight. A full five clicks for my two wheeled lawnboy.P.S. the Moab Propost, although adding a little weight and costing a bit too much, nonetheless kicks major ass. | Overall Rating: |

I am just curious. I have a chance to get a 98 S-Works for about $1200. I really like the bike, but I will change a few things. I will put on a shorter stem, rise bars, and maybe a Bomber or X-vert R, probably a Raceface crank (20-34-44, and 12-32 XTR cassete with M-55 Sachs chain) and bottom bracket, Time pedals, Thompson seatpost, and Bontrager Plus 10 seat. I want to use it for rough playing. Rock hopping, log hopping, drop-offs, etc. How durable is it? I rarely crash, and am careful where I put myself and my bike. I ride a Klein Mantra that is built like I want to build this bike, and want to know if the S-Works will take the same kind of use and survive. Any help? Please feel free to E-mail me. I've had M2XX bike for about 4 months. My initial impression was that it climbed like stink, and handled better than anything I had ridden to that point. However, I've come to dislike the bone bruising experience this bike can deliver over rough/rocky terrain, especially on downhill sections. I recently purchased Geax Hook and Warp tires to soften the ride, and now have a thudbuster seat post. The Geax tires made the ride softer, but overall I wasn't impressed with the change in the handling (the original tires are going back on). This bike give you confidence to take on just about anything. The components are good and the Manitou Tpc-SXti fork is awesome. What I really like about the bike is it's compliance and predictability, you just think about about a movement and the bike is there. Weighing in at around 23 pounds is great too! The headset did come loose after a couple of days of hard riding, but that's the only negative. 99 S-Works FSR XC, I saw this bike in a couple of publications, it looks too sweet, with its new M4 frame full suspension weighing in at 23.5 Lbs. I'm going to order this bike now, they are not even shipping it yet. The suggested retail price is $2995.00, Team Red looks killer. check out The Specialized Web Site at http://www.specialized.comI would also like to get feed back from other people than know about this bike and post what you think !! This bike needs it's own category, but when I tried to creat a new product review, it gave me an error on the server, if anyone from MTB Review is reading this, maybe you can fix that and create an entry for The Specialized S-Works FSR XC 99 model. | Overall Rating: |

A couple of months ago I purchased my 2nd M2 in 3 yrs - a new '98 S-Works with 747 pedals (My brother also bought the same but in red). My previous being a 95 S.Jumper M2 Comp, I found very little difference in frame fit and feel - although the 98 is lighter and a bit more responsive , the kick can really catch you off guard if your not prepared for it. On a personal fit note, I require a long top tube geometry and this bike is one of the best without going to custom made. Being a big guy (6ft, 260lbs) and very agressive rider through all terrain, this ride is fantastic. For the price, the quality / component set and performance you cannot beat it. It also has a tricked out look which catches lots of eyes.... black spokes, red rims, ....and the team lime green does eventually grow on you. I am still adjusting to the new shifter levers versus my old grip shift, but uphill shifting/climbing is awsume along with the new Manitou shock which sucks up every bump regardless of size. On all aspects this bike is a winner and loves to be riden hard...... | Overall Rating: |

Not bad for a hard tail and very agressive when riding. Very fast, not sluggish (like the GT Zaskar LE I used to own) and definately handles better than my Klein Adroit (sorry Gary). Frame is solid and stiff, but not too stiff. Good quality on the craftsmanship. I'd actually recommend you buy one if your a serious weekend/weekday rider who wants a light, responsive, fast, reliable ride.Don't forget the helmet. | Overall Rating: |

I generally have no idea what he's talking about. All kidding aside, I can say that he did have a tendency to wipe out a great deal prior to getting this bike, as he's an extreme risk taker, quite fast, and tends to seek out black-diamond terrain. This bike is awesome! I bought my S-Works last August and couldn't believe how much I improved over my last bike (GT Karakorem - also a good bike) and neither could the guys I ride with (pass now), this thing is FAST! I ride REAL agressive and show absolutely no mercy for my equipment and I just can't believe what this bike can take. However, I did finaly manage to crack the frame at the weld on the chainstay. But my shop called up and got me a new one and ONE WEEK later I was riding again, ONE WEEK, that's ONE WEEK! So I have NO problem with them standing behind their warranty, maybe those horror stories I've heard about are just because you're dealing with the wrong shop. The only equipment I didn't like was the Ritchy pedals (not knoking them though, I know lots of people who love them)I just need more float so I went to Shimano. I would highly reccomend this bike! | Overall Rating: |

I recently purchased the Team Red 98' S-Works and although it is quite expensive, it is by far one of the best bikes I've ever had the chance to own. The frame is stiff and it allows the bike to climb like a charm. Even with my size, there's no flex on the bike at all (5'8, 250+lbs). The component group, a mix of XT/XTR parts, is also awesome. I'm glad I didn't get the Stumpjumper Pro because I'd immediately want to upgrade to XTR knowing now how they flawlessly perform. The Manitou SXTi works! It softens the big bumps and smooths out the washboards on the fire roads and singletracks. It's also easy to dial-in the fork to your style of riding. And with the Mavic x517's and their dark red finish, it makes the bike look mean. The only upgrade I would probably make is the Ritchey Logic pedals. They work fine now but as soon as I wear them down, I'll get myself some Shimano 747's. Great Job SPECIALIZED. You've got a customer in me for LIFE... 5 stars!!!! | Overall Rating: |

So far it is the best bike that I have ever had. It is stiff for great climbing and the components that it is equiped with out of the box are hard to beat. The only thing that has given me any problem at all is the rear tire (team specialized). I know, it is not worth the trouble to compalin but, you have to pump it up to near 55 lbs just to make it through a ride with air left in the thing. I like to lose a little for extra control but that is not a possibility in the area that I ride. Oh, and I did switch the pedals from Richey to 747's. I just seem to like them better. The S-Works M2 has the same exact feel (geometry) as my old rigid M2 Stumpjumper (which I love), but the Manitou fork makes the ride much more pleasant. I have put the bike through the works, including technical rock riding and climbing, as well as high speed fire road. By the way, the Manitou fork, though much cheaper, is a far superior ride to the RS SID. The SID is simply lighter, but not a better performer. I tried both. | Overall Rating: |

Without a doubt, Specialized provides the most bang for the buck in the industry. I've gone to the hospital twice since I bought this bike, both rider error, and it came away with nothing more than minor scratches. In three plus years, I have had no major mechanicals, and this is with LX parts. My only complaints, and they are minor considering the deal I got, were the lousy pedals(VP), and the light but flimsy S-works rims. But the frame is the heart and soul of a bike, and the S-works frame is a solid foundation. It's a very light bike with great geometry, and a nice ride not as stiff as the standard M2 stumpjumper, because of the butting. Just the right amount of complience. Added a use shock post, Advocet O2 seat and I can ride all day. The only complaint that I would have is the rear dropouts aren't perfect, they tend to cant in slightly. The steering, like on every Specialized I've tried, is extremely quick and precise, verging on, but not quite into the realm of twitchy. I have a '97 S-works M2. For the first couple of months the stock headset kept loosening up on me. After repeated rebuilds the threads in the stem became stripped. My local shop got me a credit on the old headset from Specialized (which I replaced with a Cane Creek model), got me a brand new and upgraded Specialized stem and did all the work gratis (way cool considering I didn't even buy it there). Sometime after that I started breaking spokes on the rear wheel. My local shop (Wheel and Sprocket, North Shore in Milwaukee) again came to the rescue and respoked the wheel for me under warranty! I have also had a few problems getting the stock Richey seatpost to hold the angle settings and I've found the Specialized Prolong seat to be ungoddly uncomfortable for long seated rides (but fine for most other rideing). And I've had to replace the derraileur hanger (again free!) but haven't had problems with the teeth on the chainrings bending. It may sound odd after all this complaining, but despite these problems the Specialized S-works M2 is the greatest bike I have ever ridden (and this is my third high-end MT bike). | Overall Rating: |

Just an addendum to what I said below. I contacted Juan off-line via email and let him know that I had the same experiences with my S-Works. The der. hanger does bend easily. I think a stiffer hanger would still protect the frame. Got charged $15 to replace it and bent the new one in two rides. I just bent the second one back and it seem to be fine. The chainrings are horrible. They bend at the sight of a rock, and don't shift as well as Shimano (but what does?). Trashed my first set, and thinking it was the terrain I was riding in, replaced them with the same from Supergo for cheap. Duh. This was a mistake. I am today replacing the 42T ring w/ a Race Face for durability. The wheels. Fast and light. But 15/16 db on the rear have proved too light to be durable. I am replacing it, too. The front is awesome. High tension radial lace to a Stout hub.I still give it 5 hot ones b/c it is a damn fast ride. Oh yeah, to those that think it's too stiff, go buy a cushy 35lb barcolounger freeride for $3000, while I spank you on the climbs never to be seen again on the descents. | Overall Rating: |

The first time I went for a ride, ended up with the hanger completely bent and the big chainring with a few teeth bent too, I still don't know how that happened but it cost money to fix. I also noticed the front derraleur slow. For the rest, the bike is great, the fork (Manitou sx ti) has plenty of adjustability, components are awesome (great front hub), feels really light!!(mine weights less than 23lb), beautifull red rims that calls everyone's attention. It was born to race. Definitely for those that like to climb fast, not for downhillers, those wheels were not designed for big hits. I recomend this bike to any xc racer or cross-country rider. The light weight makes the ride amazing. I took off the stock Manitou fork and replaced it with the 98 Marzocchi Z2 BAM for a more plush ride. The color is awesome. I have no complaints about this super bike. FIVE FLAMING CHILIS | Overall Rating: |

Two years ago I built up a Prestige steel S-works frame set 18) and I cant imagine a sweeter hardtail. Sure beats the harshness of my old Cannondale (now my sister-inlaws bike). With a Judy FSX carbon fork, XTR drivetrain, and a little bit of ti here and there, it tips the scales at 23 lbs. A truly awesome single-tracker!However, I have a chance to buy a new, out of the box '94 FSR Stump frame for $200. Does anyone have any experience with this full suspension frame? I've been resisting the FS movement for several years but the four-bar FSR linkage seems to be a good cross-country set-up.The S-works steel is definately a 5 Habanero rig! Steel is real!!! | Overall Rating: |

You know this is the bike that I always wanted--solid, fast with no compromises. It's NED RED and it handles everything I can dish out--6'2 240, and hell bent for leather. I want a 98, silver with da new ManitouHere in Switzerland we have alot of different terrain such as rocky downhills and small forest roads and lots of cow shit. My bike is has XT with LX hubs(decent)and the FSX Judy with a spring kit, Shimano downhill pedals, and high riser bars just for fun. If your gonna spend the money, and you want a hard tail get a Specialized S-works.Five Chilis straight up!

Had one since june 97, after switching form an OCLV frameset. Awesome. Accelerates like a dragster. More compliant than many Al bikes, but still very stiff. the 97 Sx Ti is less than stellar, though. Hear the 98 model kicks. Ritchey pedal no good too. Add a set of frogs, and, in my case, an ABomb and there is no better hardtail. Buy a 98. | Overall Rating: |

I bought a '93 S-Works frame in '94. Black. Beautiful. I rode it for a year then got bitten by the Full Suspension bug. Stripped off all of the trick parts and built up a wicked LTS. Rode that for two years. Something was missing. Something wasn't right. So, I built up my ol'S-Works. XTR, Raceface, World Class, Titec, Syncros, Union Ti spokes on 217's with White Hubs, the new GripShift Attack twisters, etc... This bike flies. I haven't weighed it yet, but it feels in the 22.5 lbs. range. Climbs like a scared cat. Rolls like thunder. Everything is as it should be...One complaint. Paint. Specialized, if your listening, use better paint on your top-of-the-line bikes. Imron, or something... | Overall Rating: |

I've own a S Works for over four years. This year I crashed my old one. Specialized replace the frame at a nominal charge. My old one was great and this new one is even better. The longer top tube and steeper angles make for a bike that I believe can't be beat. It climbs well and tracks true. When it becomes necesery to replace it, I'll be purchasing another one. | Overall Rating: |

The S-Works is my third race bike. Each of which were comparable in price. This one wins, hands down. The parts are incredible. It climbs like a mountain goat, and handles great in the singletrack. I beat the hell out of it during the week, but when I line up at the start on Sunday I know the bike isn't the reason why I am not number one. Aside from the occasional flat I had no problems during the season. I was originally very happy with the SX TI, but then I on a normal training ride I hit the downhill and once I got up to speed I I was thrown over the bar. The brake arch on this one piece shock was now in two pieces. Excluding the shock I love everything about the bike. | Overall Rating: |

Recently test rode a '98 S-Works that was spec'd w/ mostly XTR and a nice Manitou fork. A very sweet ride, I don't generally dig aluminum HT's but this one had a rather nice feel to it, it was light and super fast and although I don't think the geometry would be the greatest on DH's, it would be good for most other applications. The model in question came with Shimanos new backwards shifting rear derailler that I did not find as objectionable as I thought I would but which still does not make sense to me. Nice ride though I prefer the Trek 9900 and the Bontrager Ti. | Overall Rating: |

My first ride was on a demo at Moab 97 FTF (thanks to the Manitou/Answer folks). After the Porcupine Ridge loop it was instant love. The bike simply has no bad habits and is as predictable as California weather. Picked one up as soon as I got back home and after about 20 rides I havn't been sorry one bit. The bike in red looks great with marching red strip Specialized rubber and the new red strip ass kicking Mavic 517's. The stem was a tad long as was the only thing that a I had to swap out. The component selection is top notch and the complete bike ready to ride came in at 22.5 lbs. Got to give this baby a five. Go for it. | Overall Rating: |

Technical uphills/downhills riding on North Shore mountains - New bike - Took advantage of year discounts on my sexy Mango S Works! I am very pleased after testing tons of bikes (Rocky, Trek, Kona, Marin...). It is powerful (only limiting factor is my edurance) uphill climber and the components are top notch. I thought I would be unhappy after spending so much, but I recommend spending a little more to everyone. I read so many reviews about people doing upgrades to all components that I said, F**k it and just did it RIGHTfrom the start. I am happy! For those of you looking at bikes, play with the spacers in the headset and seat position (fwd/back) as these variables can lead to you a completely different opinion about physical comfort. I can make it feel like a Rocky or more like a Kona. Whatever I want. Agree with the Ritchy SPDs, I got the store to remove them and I put my Shimano747s on the bike. | Overall Rating: |

I've ridden the best......and my '97 S-works is better!! It shames the competition hands down. Forget Cannondale(crappy shock), Diamondback(creaky frames), Trek(easton is for baseball). The only comparison I have ridden is Gary's Supercal...and it is about a grand more for the same components. I replaced the crank and front derailleur with XTR off the floor, and it is sweeter than sweet. Can't wait until '99!!!! TEAM S-WORKS ALL THE WAY. | Overall Rating: |

I have a 97 M2 and I have never had a better bike, and talk about a steal, only $1,800 for XT/XTR components, Mavic 217's, and Manitou SX Ti's. and of course tha BADASS frame, I'd have to give this bike 5 of those Peppa's, and to Poetry dood and the one right under it, C-dale sucks because they're bikes are RIPOFFS, and those Headshox are a joke! | Overall Rating: |

S-works must stand for Skunk works, because the boys at Northorp (B-2 etc.) could not build a faster bike. The bike simply rocks. The only reason this bike doesn't get five stars is due to the Richey pedals and the tires. The pedals suck and they must not have mud in California. But I'll still buy another in a heart beat. | Overall Rating: |

One of the best values ($2400 Cdn) around. This bike came with a very well thought out component list not only in terms of value but performance as well. The M2 S-works handles wonderful in steep hilly sections, and technical downhills. I love the performance of the Shamino XTR V-Brakes. The bike also looks cool in the Mango colored paint. Just got one of the few remaining bikes of the '97 line. This bike is great, handles well and is very speedy. The combination of angles and the metal matrix frame makes this a very agressive bike. It's well spec'd and for a hardtail, is probably one of the top race-proven designs. If you're looking for a biek around this price range, give it a try. Five chillies, hands down. | Overall Rating: |

I've had my '97 S-Works for a couple of months now and I have to say that I LOVE IT!!! I mostly ride single-track and this bike eats it up. I swapped out the Ritchey pedals for 747's (more float) and added LP Carbon Fiber barends, and I couldn't be happier with the combination. Light & quick. Period. I also got a second set of wheels with Fat Boys on them, and this bike feels like a road bike with the slicks - RIGID!!! So much better than my old Paramount 70 w/ old XT. Was missing the thumbshifters initially, but now I have to say I like the new ones. And Poetry Boy - learn how to spell Cannondale, would ya? | Overall Rating: |

I'm going into my 2nd year of Sport racing my 1995 M2 S-Works. I love this bike. If you like a bike that delivers every last ft/lb. of torque from your legs to the ground, than this is the bike for you. WARNING… this is a very stiff bike, if you want a plush ride stay away. The combination of angles, lightweight, and stiffness make the steepest climbs easy. When my bike breaks from normal wear (Aluminum is supposable only good for a single race session), I will replace it with another S-works. | Overall Rating: |
