Strengths:    Very durable and dependable. It goes over the roots without a problem.

Weaknesses:    It is a little heavy and does not have rear disk brake mounts.

Bottom Line:
If you can find one, buy it.

Strengths:    Superb geometry and handling, the bike climbs well and handles most down hills well. Good off the shelf compentry.

Weaknesses:    The wheels, why spec Mavic 221's? for an extra 20 - 30 dollar in the the price tag a decent set of rims such as x517s could have been fitted. The factory built rear is prone to problems.

I have also had some teething problems with the FOX vanilla rear shock losing air (the climate in my part of the world is rather wet, hence lots of mud) a shock boot and plenty of maintanence is essential!

Bottom Line:
This is a superb bike that I would recommend to anyone. If it had a better wheel set and a more reliable rear shock It would rate as 10 out of 10!

Strengths:    Strong strong strong, bike handles like a dream.

Weaknesses:    The head set is trash, and the bushings are made of plastic after awhile they begin to swell and cause the rear end to stick. Mountain speed sells a full bearing kit for $159.00 and its worth every penny.

Bottom Line:
I have ridden alot of race style bikes and this bike is by far the best. If you work out all the little bugs like every new bike has you will be very happy with this bike as a choice. I have owned it for a year and raced it seven times and never DNF'ed also I have won all but one race on this bike. This bike is very underrated.

Favorite Trail:   river walk Lawrance Kansas

Duration Product Used:   1 Year

Price Paid:    $3000.00

Purchased At:   Supergo

Bike Setup:   I did not like the Manitou carbon, so I put a Marzzochi Z-2 superfly on the front and it made a big difference for the better. I put a mountain speed bearings kit in the rear end and it stopped all that squeeking and it worked better and more freely. I bought a Raceface headset and it stopped the freezing problem that the stock set caused. I put Panaracer Fire XC 1.8 tires it helped alot in the mud and hard pan conditions.

Strengths:    light weight, quick handling, fast bike, looks cool and great value for the money.

Weaknesses:    flex in rear suspension.plastic bushing pivots.rear derailer banging on chain stay.e type front derailer.

Bottom Line:
great bike. for a dual suspension you can make this bike very light. i have had it down to 22.5 lbs. sometimes the fsr xc can have a twitchy unstable feel to it on the down hills. however you can modify the rear triangle with bearing pivots and head angel adjustments with more travel too ( from 76mm to 90mm ).www.mountainspeed.com. makes a fsr xc modifcation kit. this will stablize that twitchy feel on the down hill. i have one on order right now. this kit goes for about $180.00. my bike is a 1999 and specialized is doing some of this for all 2001 bikes. this is still a great bike.it's perfect for anyone looking for a dual xc set up. i,m just giving out some cool new imformation about fsr xc that i've been waiting for myself. peace

Strengths:    Light and fast, this bike begs you to hammer the pedals. There is on such thing as a relaxing ride on this bike.

Weaknesses:    none so far

Bottom Line:
This is the best bike I have ever thrown a leg over. I enjoy every minute that I am on it. This bike will entice you to hammer the pedals until your legs feel like two pieces of Jello.

Bottom Line:

This is the perfect cross country full-suspension bike. Light and agile, makes climbing over rocks and roots so much easier. On the other hand it's no downhill wonder (limited travel and quick geometry), but for cross-country and all-day trail riding it's just fine.
Specialized did also a good job with the bike's specs: a lot of cool Specialized
parts, great wheelset (black hubs, spokes, rims) and 9-speed XT/LX - everything works perfect. And this is the basic(Stumpjumper FSR XC) version!
For me it is the perfect bike, time will show how the whole thing holds up( we' ve got a lot of mud and rain and snow over here)...until then- Specialized rules!
