Strengths:    nice geometry- for cross country either light street jumping

Weaknesses:    a bit heavy (in chrome-molibden tubes)

Bottom Line:
good frame if u ride in many styles and nice tail geometry, I ride cro-mo steel version so it is heavy but at least tough. If you want to ride real XC take alloy frame eg. specialized

Strengths:
Frame

Weaknesses:
Components

Bottom Line:
Basically this was a good frame to start with. Especially noteworthy are the epi-center rear brake mount and heavy duty welding job. This frame assembly was partly influenced by Schwinn's short marriage with Yeti. This frame has survive many gnarly drop ins during urban assault, many rocky downhills, and some rim dessimating jumps. I even installed a double clamp DH fork (JrT), which throws off the head tube angle. This angle deviation puts extra stress on the welds in that area. I thought for sure the head tube would give and I would be forced to by a soft-tail. The frame has been indestructable. Couple this with the right componentry and you have a rockin' XC setup.

Strengths:
frame, rims, seat, brakes

Weaknesses:
stem

Bottom Line:
This is a great bike. I have riden itmany times. The frame is very tuff, and can take a beating. I have given it a few. The KORE stem is a great add on, but I think the length makes the bike a little tricky in tight single track. Overall it is a great bike!!! I would recommend it to any beginner.

Strengths:
great price, nice paint job, faithful - takes a beating

Weaknesses:
strange tires, heavy tires.

Bottom Line:
it's a great deal for the money. a big jump from the trek 850. its alum. frame worked well with my light frame, i actually feel like i can control the bike. i think it's responsive, it does what you tell it to do. good for recreational riding, and some racing too. mine's gone 1000 miles without many problems except flats, but that happens to everyone. for a $50 investment, i upgraded the pedals to clipless ones, and that just enhanced my riding experience a lot.

Strengths:
stiff frame low price for some good stuff.

Weaknesses:
tires compleatly suck!
mavic 138 wheel set needs to be trued after almost every ride.
R.S.Indy C has much flex.

Bottom Line:
All in all I like my schwinn I have done some realy great riding with this bike, pull off some stunts I did'nt know I could do, at the same time done some outright stuiped stuff and this bike is very forgiving.

Date Reviewed: June 9, 1999

Strengths:
It's a great bike for the price. Aluminum frame, Rock Shox Indy C suspension. Fairly good components. Avid direct pull brakes.
STX-RC rear, STX front deraillers

Weaknesses:
Non-butted aluminum so fairly heavy though still lighter than
Cro-Moly. Heavy tires and rims, and also the suspension weigh down the bike.

Bottom Line:
If you don't plan on spending more than $700 there is no bike with the same quality.
