Although the Mesa GSX was downgraded in some key areas for 1999, it is still a great first real mountain bike. I own a 1998 model, which has been terrific so far. The changes were probably made because Schwinn sold many more Mesa GSX's than the pricier Moab's, which uses the same frame with a better drive train and fork.
