Date Reviewed: April 12, 2003
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $500.00
Purchased At:Nepisiguit River Company
Strengths:Very solid bike, great on the trails. No major repairs needed in 2 years. Easy to adjust on your own. I spent hundreds on my last bike (CCM ice) every year to keep it running...haven't spent a dime on this one other than grease.
Weaknesses:Color scheme not the greatest. Tires could be a little more agressive. Pedals needed to be replaced with aluminum ones cause I hate plastic.
Bike Setup:Stock other than pedals.
Bottom Line:Great bike for the intermediate rider who can't spend a fortune. What else can I say!!!

Favorite Trail:Road and Trail, Lake Tahoe, Ca.
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $425.00
Purchased At:Gardnerville, Nevada
Strengths:Good entry level mountian bike
Weaknesses:Some components could be upgraded. Wheels are weak, should upgrade
Similar Products Used:specialized hardrock.
Bike Setup:This is the 1999 model
Bottom Line:I have used street tires for road touring trips and nobs for trail. Have been happy with this bike and adventure cycling has given a good review on this one also. Yes you could spend a lot more for more components but I'm glad that I didn't.

Favorite Trail:kick me in the ass
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $250.00
Purchased At:Some bums house
Strengths:I ride it off like a 5 1/2 footer, even though it is just a pinner a$$ed cross-country piece of sh*t. It still hasn't broken, but i think it is going to!! That's about it...
Weaknesses:Everything basically. ching chang chong
Similar Products Used:RM6, Raliegh Chill (but it was beefed up for freeride/DH), Balfa BB7, Norco Shore, GT DHi, Rocky Mountain Equipe, and many other pice of sh*t walmart trikes!

Bottom Line:This bike should only be used by 8o year old men who ....(i cant think of anything to say

Date Reviewed: May 17, 2000
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Picked up a 99' GSX on sale for $400. Its my first true mountain bike, and let me tell you, it's an incredible ride. I Love this bike.
Weaknesses:Only thing I would change would be to grab so more aggresive tires if you are going to be doing a lot of trail riding.
Similar Products Used:Trek 4500, Specialized Hardrock FS, GT agressor
Bike Setup:Factory Standard
Bottom Line:If your interested in mountain biking, the GSX will be your best buddy.

Submitted by Hoss a weekend warrior from Bucks County, PA
Date Reviewed: March 8, 1999
Bottom Line:
Although the Mesa GSX was downgraded in some key areas for 1999, it is still a great first real mountain bike. I own a 1998 model, which has been terrific so far. The changes were probably made because Schwinn sold many more Mesa GSX's than the pricier Moab's, which uses the same frame with a better drive train and fork. You can't go wrong with the Mesa GSX!
