Date Reviewed: March 2, 2009
Favorite Trail:City
Duration Product Used:2 Years
Price Paid: $550.00
Purchased At:Spring 2007
Strengths:Awesome handling, good weight, decent suspension
Weaknesses:WORST GEAR SYSTEM EVER. Brakes don't stay centered, requires constant maintenance
Similar Products Used:N/A
Bottom Line:A good bike if your not going to be riding hard. If your planning on constantly jumping curbs, off roading or going fast, don't go with this bike. To be honest the selling feature of this bike is it's cool design, not it's performance

Date Reviewed: November 6, 2001
Favorite Trail:RipHouse
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Price Paid: $600.00
Purchased At:High Sitting Cycles
Strengths:None, it suckes so hard! I rode off a little drop, and then the cranks snapped off! What is up with that? Only people that cant drop, jump, or ride on skinny stuff, or do anything should ride this bike. IT is for people that ride on the road and dont do anything!
Weaknesses:Everything, this whole hunk of SH*t is a weakness.
Similar Products Used:Nothing is this bad, maybe a bike from the eighties?
Bike Setup:Shimano Drivetrain, amoeba downhill bars, shimano stx-rc drivetrai, black 20inch frame, 2.1 tires, ourys.
Bottom Line:This bike is so bad, that i want to kill it! The person that made it should die! Please, do not buy this bike! For the sake of everyone, it licks. A k-mart or sport mart bike would be better!

Submitted by Josh Kasper a Downhiller from Kelowna, B.C., Canada
Date Reviewed: October 26, 2001
Favorite Trail:Compton
Duration Product Used:3 months
Price Paid: $1000.00
Purchased At:Roys
Strengths:This bike has no strengths
Weaknesses:Theis whole bike is weak, i rode off a small curb and my frame broke. All the components are really bad, and the bike should be burned.
Similar Products Used:My sisters bike from Toys R' US
Bike Setup:Oury grips, shimano A brakes, stx derailer, black frame, airline rims, shimano A cranks
Bottom Line:This is a really bad bike, and if you buy it new, dont pay more than $400, if you buy it used, dont pay more than $100. This bike is a hunk of steel with wheels. I hate it so much, i gave it to a homeless person. Anyone who thinks it is good is not a good biker and should die!

Date Reviewed: January 1, 2000
Favorite Trail:
any place i can find
Duration Product Used:
6 months
Strengths:
good drivetrain, dbl. butted cromo frame
durable
Weaknesses:
cheap paint! fragile seat, heavy rims
Similar Products Used:
none
Bike Setup:
1998 serengeti sx with '99 Z5 and LX 8 speed drivetrain
Bottom Line:nice bike for people looking for a good cheap ride, worth upgrading like I did, but I wouldn't leave it in stock form because I had trouble with the STX-RC shifters and front V-brakes, but other then that it works fine.

Submitted by Chevyboy a Cross-Country Rider from Victoria, BC
Date Reviewed: November 29, 1999
Favorite Trail:
The Dump
Duration Product Used:
1 Year
Strengths:
Cheap!!
Very nice looking frame (looks more expensive than really is)
Built in Canada!!!!
Weaknesses:
Really crappy paint (it actually chipped when I flicked it with my nails)
Raleigh has the worst customer service on this planet....
Similar Products Used:
Extreme MTX867 (bent the frame...also made by Raleigh)
Ridden:
Cannondales, Schwinn Homegrown XT, Univega Alpina 507, RMB Pipeline
Bike Setup:
'98 Raleigh Serengeti w/ Rock Shox Quadra 21s, Ritchey stem, KAlloy Uno bar, Kalloy stem, Alivio/Altus/STX components, Sun rims
Bottom Line:It's a really great bike for the buck...(even though I got the frame for free, 'cuz of the other frame that I bent). Unfortunately, however, it took Raleigh 75 days to finally give me a frame...The frame was nice, I liked it, but most of the paint chipped off after about two months, and the frame started rusting amazingly fast. However, if you want a good low-end bike that you can bash around on trails, the Serengeti is a good bike to look at...it's durable, nice looking, and inexpensive.
