from Springville, Ia Date Reviewed: November 17, 1998 | | Bottom Line: | I have a Pacific YX8000 full suspension bike. $350, weighs just under 30lbs. Nothing really bad on the bike, however, the rear deurallieur and freewheel broke and needed replaced. They were some sort of cheap sachs, and are now sunrace and of a much higher quality. The old freewheel stripped a cog, and deurallieur had a pin pop out on the parallelogram. I am a clydsedale 205 lbs, and the Front_Shock feels like it bottoms out on fast downhills. The rear works fine. The frame is 7000 series aluminum in a Y frame style. The front fork is a dual clamp elastomer downhill style, rear shock is coil over. I make no pretensions about it being equivalent of an expensive bike, but what it does, it does well for a good price. By the way, I am not a clueless newby, I have been riding MT bikes for 14 years, and road bikes for 21, but have never ridden a full suspension before this. I might be missing out on a lot, but for $400 or $500 more, I don't think I will get much more for my money. By the way, I got absolutely no guff when I brought it in to /Laughon Toys R Us /Laughoff to have the parts replaced. Pacific, the company that sources the bike from Taiwan, is concerned that the parts live up to spec, and told me to return to the point of purchase, and all parts that break will be replaced for 1 year from purchase. I figure as large as I am and the way I ride, if it doesn't break in a year, it won't break, barring any major mishaps, which would be my fault anyway. As parts crap out, I will replace them with better, but in the meantime, I'll enjoy an inexpensive, plush ride. | Overall Rating: |
