V-brakes. | | Weaknesses: | Yick... the rims blow monkeys. I was going about 20 mph and came across a car doing 40 (backroads too). I stopped as fast as I could so I didn't get hit (it was an intersection) and it KILLED my back rim. The thing wobbled an inch to each side. The rear derailler broke due to a twig from a pine tree getting stuck in it. Shifting is whacked out and fubar. | | Similar Products Used: | Huffy,bad | | Bike Setup: | all stock baby | | Bottom Line: | Don't get it. If it's at a yard sale for under 50, take it for the frame and strip the thing. Don't pay full price for it and don't get it new. Under $100 at a yard sale w/o any noticeable wear would be an awesome price.. just inspect it carefully. Don't go off-roading with it, you'll kill the poor thing unless you upgrade the fajuckers out of it. Keep your cash and go for a GT that's $100 more. You'll thank me if you knew. Bought my Pacific DX 5000 at Toys R Us after my brother brought home his Wal-mart Mongoose. For the same money I dont have the broken chains, missed shifts, chains constantly defrailing, and the locked up rear hubs. Mine too is gimping on grease in the BB and hubs but that's trivial. I also just purchased front fork (an RST 381r closeout for $39) and a Shimano LX crankset (also a closeout for $49)to upgrade the bike. My wife and I were shopping for our first MTB's this summer.I had only a vague
idea of what I was looking at.Every bike shop man recommended a Raliegh(?)for
my price range(UNDER $300).Well,I was not impressed.I went to Toys-R-Us!?!
For $199 I got a Pacific with aluminum frame,alloy rims and hubs,stem,seatpost,
quick release front wheel and seatpost clamp,V-brakes that work very well,and
Shimano easyfire shifters(love the shifters-bite me gripshift).It came with a
steel fork that I just upgraded to an RST 381R.
This is a very light bike with all Shimano components(not real good ones though).The frame has a lifetime Warranty!!I must warn that grease must be very
exspensive where these bikes are made because I've had to grease the BB and the
freewheel.
This is a VERY nice bike for under $200 and is very upgradeable.It serves my
