After my prized Trek was stolen, my wife surprized me on my birthday with a Pacific 7000sx. After being quite leery (department store bike?), and stripping off the reflectors I was very surprized. 1. The frame is 7005 aluminum! (bike weighs 28lbs) 2. The brakes are V-copies, 3. the stem and barends are zoom 4. The seat is velo 5. The tires are Kenda bear claw kevlar, and the fork...The fork is dual crown....the manual says it could be made by rockshock or RST..there are no markings on the fork. I took it apart, and it has coil springs over two solid elatomeres. It was dry of course (air damping?) I sealed the bottom slider rod threads with rtv and poured in one ounce of auto trans fluid ...big difference...no Judy...but it actually will give an indy a run for its money...about 3 inches of travel, although the fork weighs 5 lbs.I replaced the stock seatpost with a PM1000 big difference.The drive train is totally suntour (remember them?) the derailleur actually works pretty good, no problems the shifters are sram 4.0I am completely surprized at the performamce of the bike. My Trek was about four years old, and I really think this a better bike! I conned my wife out of where she bought it......Toys are us! She paid $300 for it. I would recommend it to anyone with a tight budget. Of course I plan on replacing the heavy, nameless, dula crown fork. | Overall Rating: |
