It comes stock with features you'd find on a $500+ Trek or Schwinn (see Bike Setup above) and you can always upgrade the components when you feel the need. I don't ride the bike hard - road, paved trail, and fairly smooth dirt and forest trail - and it has proven comfortable, stable, and sturdy for my 135 pounds.
The manual that comes with the bike is well-written, with good instructions for adjusting the brakes and derailleurs. I wish the company's website (http://www.pacific-cycle.com) had more customer-oriented content such as tech support FAQ's and online product registration. The Rock Shox manual was not included with my bike, but you can download it (http://www.rockshox.com/Support/manuals.htm). Look under Model Year 1999 and click on the Jett C & Jett T2 link.
To summarize, the Pacific 6500SX is a well-equipped, well-built bike for light on-road and off-road use. And the price can't be beat. If you are not overly-concious of the name printed on the side of your bike, this one's probably a great choice for you.

Yeah, my face is mangled pretty bad. But this bike looks phat! I've only had it for like 3 days (rode it & got hurt bad within the first 15 min!!!). But after about a year, the cheapness in the frame started to show. I weigh 130lbs, and one day the aluminum snapped out of place where the seatstays meet the seatpost tube. Also, I had to replace almost everything, becuase it all got broken. My friens say, it was because I am too rough on it. I barely ride it anywhere. I was going down this smooth trail at about 20mph. I took a small jump. When I landed, the frame gave away, and I was crying on the ground. Oh, well, that's what you get for buying a $299 Toy R Us bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

I have had a ton of great and greatly expensive bikes and bought this recently to get back into it. The bike is sturdy and comes well equiped with Rock Shox and Shimano drive train! The frame is aluminum and relatively light. For the money I used to spend on other bikes I'm kicking myself now! Every stock (so far..) | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line is what you get for the price with this bike. I just wanted to get started into the sport after a long hiatus due to college, so i thought i'd buy an economical hard-tail and go from there.Initially, I started out knowing I was going to buy a Diamondback or Mongoose, manufacturers who have made a living off good, economical, upgradable bikes. But then I saw Pacific bikes at Target, got interested, and researched some more and found a larger selection at Toys R' Us. Yeah, it took a lot of soul searching, but finally it came down to this: it had everything a $450 Diamondback comes with, PLUS a better aluminum frame. It is a very upgradeable bike.After about 2 months, I have no regrets (thus far). The Acera deraulliers suck, but they are functional and unless you're hardcore, you wouldn't need to upgrade it right away. Bottom line is that this is a VERY good bike for the money, and component for component, is the same as any $400-$500 real bike. If you can live with not having a name brand bike, there isn't a better bike for the money. | | Overall Rating: |

6 months | | Bottom Line: | This bike kicks. The frame is garenteed for life. Great setup for an awesome price. Don't care for the V-brakes. I'm only 13 any try to kill my bike every ride. I've flipped it on the road twice, wrecked off-road almost 20 times from riding way too fast and it's still just like new.
