from Vancouver, BC, Canada Date Reviewed: December 8, 2002 | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Strengths: | Great frame for the price. Can be built up to under 22lbs. | | Weaknesses: | Price doesn't allow it to get too light. Seat/chainstays are not made of Easton tubes... | | Similar Products Used: | Norco TNT (Team Issue) | | Bike Setup: | Full XTR 8spd, Mavic Crossmax ('98 non-tubeless), SID 100, Easton CT2 Carbon bar and seatpost, Raceface Turbine LP cranks/rings headset and Ti Bottom bracket, Syncros hinged stem, ODI lockgrips, Flite Ti saddle, various tires (Michelin Hot S K, IRC Mythos 1.95K, Continental Doublefighter dual K), Specialized Ultralite tubes, and Crank Bros. Egg beater pedals. | | Bottom Line: | I bought the Torrent as a frame only and built it up piece by piece. I've spent about 3000CAD on the bike now and it's sitting at around 21.5lbs. This bike has a very solid feel to it. Climbs very quickly and is really stiff. It kinda makes me miss the feeling of a nice steel hardtail...but this bike is EFFICIENT. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Kick-butt looks | | Weaknesses: | None | | Bike Setup: | 99 Judy XC, axiom seatpost, stem and bars. Stxrc rear derailler, Xt front, Lx cranks, panaracer firexc. | | Bottom Line: | This bike is just fun riding, and no problems. If your a xc rider with a bit of freeride in them this is what you want. I think this bike would be a excellent freeride machine with the addition of a psylo. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Sydney Australia Date Reviewed: May 3, 1998 | | Bottom Line: | This bike is a very sharp ride. The standard Torrent comes with Atom Bombs, XTR der's and Race Face Crankset. I went to Avid Arch Supremes and Ultimate levers in the brake department, shod it with Wildgrippers and stretched the cabin with a RaceFace XY seatpost. (ATAC Pedal and Oury grips of course!)In all truth - I actually started with the frameset.I've never ridden anything that feels so precise. A nice and probably better alternative to some of the other performance hard tails. | Overall Rating: |
