Manitou's aren't fantastic, | | Bike Setup: | XT/XTR throughout, Avid brake levers, Mavic rims, Variety of forks! | | Bottom Line: | The bottom line? I've had this bike over ten years now! I use it virtually every day for training. The frame is flawless, the welding is superb, the guy who mentioned the welding was poor obviously doesn't weld, is blind or had a bike that wasn't a Klein with Klein stickers on it! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | From a friend who owns a bike shop and sold it to me at cost | | Strengths: | The frame on the Pulse Pro was inspired by God. Light, climbs like a mountain goat, decends like water flowing downhill, and corners on rails. This bike is a dream to ride. | | Weaknesses: | Paint sucks. Original component package isn't the best, but lasts forever. The manitou pro forks are soild, but outdated. | | Similar Products Used: | Rocky Mountain Oxygen Race, Raleigh M800, Trek 8000 | | Bottom Line: | If you can get your hands on one of these frames, do it. I have tested comparable products from the 2000/2001 prodcut lines of Rocky Mountain, GT, Schwinn, & Trek... while the component packages are better today, no one comes close to the frame rigidity and responsiveness of the 97' Pulse Pro. If you are conisdering a new bike, make sure you ride the Kliens, I mean really ride them. This is a huge purchase, the biek shop should let you take the bike out for a good ride, if they don't... find a new shop. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Helsinki, Finland Date Reviewed: August 5, 2000 | | Duration Product Used: | More than 3 years | | Strengths: | A truly excellent frame - lightweight, stiff yet responsive. Unbeatable climber. Good wheels, they're lighter and stronger than you think - Bonty rims and butted DT spokes and nipples on average LX hubs. Cool looks, unmatched quality. Race-ready geometry. | | Weaknesses: | The Manitou Pro fork is not on the same level with the rest of the bikes components. The wonderful frame needs a more adjustable fork, like a SID for example. The stock tires are good only on dry surfaces. The WTB saddle and the TREK post are way too heavy. In fact the seatpost weighs 395g!! - on a 23.9 pound bike... | | Similar Products Used: | GT Avalanche Team, Marin Indian Fire Trail, Rocky Mountain Vertex T.O. 2000 | | Bike Setup: | Original, except the tires and fork. I have now a RS Judy XC 99 up front and Continental tires. | | Bottom Line: | After having ridden a newer bike for a couple of months the top quality of my old Klein has become more and more evident. The ride is something special - the bike can be hammered uphill, downhill or on flat surfaces, and it does well everywhere. The frame is ultra-stiff and still very good on the technical stuff. If you are a serious cross-country rider and still can find a Pulse Pro somewhere, especially as a frameset, don't think twice - buy it. You won't be disappointed. from Oklahoma City, OK Date Reviewed: August 21, 1999 | | Favorite Trail: | Lake Thunderbird, Lake Hefner, OK | | Duration Product Used: | 2 Years | | Strengths: | This bike is an excellent choice in the aluminum bike category. It handles better than any bike I've ridden. It rides stiff, but not as bad as cheapo aluminum. Geometry is spot on, but I shortened up the stem. Light, responsive, and very agile. ESP 9.0 shifters work extremely well, but you'll need to keep the rear deurallier clean. | | Weaknesses: | LX front deurallier doesn't cut it. I upgraded to an XT. Bontrager mustang rims good for price, but I have an XTR set on now. Ride still a little harsh compared to my Trek 970 OXIII bike I used to ride. Manitou Pro front fork is the price comprimise on this bike. It has loosened up on me so the extremely crisp handling the bike had when it was new has become more sloppy. This is my next upgrade. | | Similar Products Used: | Trek 970-Handles good, softer ride, but more flexible. Longer stays and slacker angles make the Klein definitely faster | | Bike Setup: | XTR wheelset, Flite Gel saddle, Short Bontrager forged stem, Avid SD 2.0 levers, Profile carbon riser HB. | | Bottom Line: | Excellent frame that can be upgraded to a world class bicycle. I bought a 97 Pulse Pro after riding nearly every other hardtail at its pricepoint because it excelled at handling technical singletrack and was very light. There are quirks to the bike however; its short wheelbase and tall headtube, for example, while making it very nimble also limits its abilities somewhat when descending fireroads at speed. An updated rear derailleur is a must and speed springs are an improvement but this bike is a beast! | Overall Rating: |

I had a rim set made for me 517 rims with xtr rear hub and a specialized stout hub (rims kick ass). with my kline in hand off to the races i went. the kline climbs like no other bike I've ridin, but with the force of my weight and the inkline of the hills the bike would get really bad chain suck. i would go back to the bike shop and get new chains, ring, and coggs. NO HELP. the chain suck got so bad that i almost cut my bike in half. i found my self push my bike into the finish line. THAT SUCKS! at races i started check out other klines and found most of them had the same problem. the chain stay is bigger and the chain has less room for error. after my last race this bike was going in the river. my local bike shop pointed out the worthiness of the upgrades of this frame. i have since crash replace the old kline(1998) and went with a new kline(1998) upgraded with xtr all the way around. i have not raced the new bike so we will see what happens. I give this a 5 stars when it comes to climbs. My paint job on this bike faled i give 3 stars. the ride i give 4 stars. race worthy 3.5 stars | Overall Rating: |

I recently test rode a '97 Klein Pulse Pro. I really like this bike. It is light, fast and very responsive. It climbs like a mountain goat. The bike I have now is an old Trek full suspension. The ride comparison between the two is like night and day. During the test ride the Klein felt a bit short in length. I had the dealer swap the stem for a longer one and I took it out again. Much better! Overall this bike just feels really good. At $999 it's also quite a bargain. I decided to put it on layaway. The other bike I test road was a Specialized Ground Control. It was okay. I found it to be comfortable but not as responsive as the Klein. I prefer the feel of a hardtail. Base on the test ride I'm giving the Klein 5 chilies. I had no complaints. | Overall Rating: |

I have done a number of endos and the Klein showed no signs of wear. However, the bumper of a Jeep Wrangler was a bit more than it could handle. I am deeply saddened at the loss of my companion. Needless to say, the day after the accident I put a hold on a 97 Pulse Pro at my bike shop. | Overall Rating: |

I've had my Pulse Pro for 5 months now and I love it. It loves the mud and has done everything I've asked of it with ease. It took some getting used to but is worth every penny. | Overall Rating: |

My girlfriend and I have just brought bikes, I wne tfor the intelligent option of getting a 98 Klein pulse, she went for a Marin nail trail, I've got to say my Klein is a hell of a better handiling, more responsive ride... granted I may be biased though, two thumbs way up. | Overall Rating: |

I’ve had this bike for a month (200 miles) now and I love it. It has an excellent choice of components, great handling and looks. It has a feel of quality which is hard to explain, but the main point is that its an extremely fun bike to ride. It seems like the bike actually enjoys being out there in the mud, and it just loves to play around jumping, doing wheelies etc. and having fun which is what MTBing is all about. Can recommend it to anyone! | Overall Rating: |

I've had my '97 Pulse Pro for a couple months now, and I'm still loving every bit of it. This is my entry into mountain biking, but after some thorough research, I decided that I didn't want to just buy some cheap mass-produced piece of junk that weighed a ton that I would rapidly outgrow. Most frames in the $800 and below range leave much to be desired. I therefore spent a bit more than most first time buyers might, but got a bike that I'll be able to keep growing into in terms of both frame and components. I got a GREAT deal at $999. I've replaced the seat with a Serfas ARC Performance Dual Density with which I'm very happy, but otherwise am more than satisfied with the rest of the components. I won't need to think about replacing this bike until I'm ready to spend a couple thousand dollars more (which won't be for a while, but still fantasizing about titanium, disc brakes, etc.,etc.). | Overall Rating: |

I have been riding my '97 Pulse Pro for almost a month now and I LOVE IT!! I did a bunch of research this time, and this bike had everything I wanted: ESP 9.0 carbon-fiber rear derailleur, LX V-brakes, Manitou Pro fork, Bontrager Mustang rims, Panaracer Duster 2 tires, and it weighs in at about 21 lbs.!! I only weigh about 120 lbs., and weight was a big factor in this purchase. So far, it climbs well, handles tight singletrack like a champ, and looks sweet in black with yellow logos. Not to mention it only cost $1200, way more bike for the money than anything Gary Fisher can turn out!! | Overall Rating: |
