from Halifax, Nova Scotia Date Reviewed: April 14, 1998 | | Bottom Line: | This was my second real mountain bike I've purschase. I used to own a Specialized Rockhopper. All I can say is that I'm in love. This bike is all tricked out! I bought it in the spring of 1997 and I have had absolutely no problems whatsoever! First of all it has the exact same frame as thier top of the line Team edition. The frame is built from OX3 chromoly which is supposedly as light and stonger than Aluminum. Don't know if that's true but I do know that the frame sure has taken a thrashing but its in the same shape as when I bought it. Since it has an awesome frame, it might as well come with some kick ass components too huh? It came with a RST Mozo Pro 3.5 which is just awesome in itself. The brakes are V-type Avid Single Digits with Avid 2.0 leavers which will stop you on a dime!! It comes with an LX front and XT rear derailers. I must admit that the rear derailer is where its at. My buddy has an LX and he has had nothing but problems. Me on the other hand have nothing but smooth sailing. If you are buying a new bike, make sure you get an XT rear derailer, its worth the extra cash! And they are half the price of XTR but very close in performance. The bike also has WTB velociraptor tires with WTB rims too! A nice combination. The tires hold well and no problems with the rims as of yet. Came with Azonic Pedal too which are probably pretty cheap but have been working great since day one so who cares? Did I mention that I got this little dream for a cool $1300 including 15% provincial tax!! So what do we have here? A top of the line frame with an excellent mix of components. What does that result in?? A bike that you can ride until the cows come home, rolling over every rock, root, car, swamp or what ever else you ride over the whole way. It handles the single track really quick, the frame feels solid on the DH's and the nice forks up front suck up any obstacle you encounter. The components never let you down so you can ride care free all day never worrying about what could go wrong. I also entered a few races last year for the first time and man did my machine ever take a beating. And at the end you know what? It was still purring like the dream it is!! Hose her down and lube her up and its still performs like it was out of the box!! So what I'm trying to say is that this bike in my mind was the steal of the century. I've only ever seen one other here in Nova Scotia but I'm sure there are lots of 'em out there with owners as content and happy as I. If you're in the market for a new bike, you don't want to pay an arm and a leg, take a look at the KHS line, especially the COMP and you'll get more than you ever bargined for! I gave this bike a rating of 5 because of the value. I understand that there are more phenomenal machines out there, but you have to pay through your nose for the rest of your life, or until you win the lottery. | Overall Rating: |
