Strengths: stiff, light, cool colorsWeaknesses: noneBottom Line: I bought the frame and built it w/ left over parts. I pretty much upgraded everything on it by now. The frame is simply light, fast and responds great on climbs. Great way to get started if you are on a budget. What more can you ask? Great value for an Easton elan frame. I actually preferred the blue/lime two tone color paint job over the chrome frame, it definetely looks cool.

Strengths:
light & strong 19 frame
great sensitivity in steering and esp downhills
good proportions for climbingWeaknesses:
weak paint jobBottom Line: The overall weight is 25lbs for the 19 frame with heavyish Z2 Bomber forks, lightened by 517 rims with XTR hubs. The size made me go downhills and round loopy corners with great relish due to responsiveness to body english, coupled with stability due to 19 suited for my 190lb weight and 6 ft height. Not a crack or anything despite over 1000 km pounding so far, lots of hills and mud and favorite singletracks and a race. Paint scratches are a nuisance, the silver colour is better than my blue/lime colour. There is a rear replaceable dropout, not replaced yet but is comforting to have. Lovely frame after all this pounding, the year 2000 KHS seems to have dropped the Alite 4000 frame availability, what happened?

Bottom Line:
I love my KHS. At first the handling was a little too quick and I was getting worked (!) being thrown over the bars and cutting corners too sharply. When I learned to carve the bike and stay centered throughout the turn the Alite 4000 was like a knife; ripping through the corners with more speed than entered with. Definitely a race bike. East Coast geometry I guess...

Bottom Line:
I'm back to re-submit my review. My 21 bike came with a 135mm stem but I recently switched it to a 150mm, and the Alite came alive beneath me!!
Very smooth and precise handling, confident in all terrain (from mud and rocks to roots and sand) and quick turning as well. The frame is stiff at the bottom bracket but a little bit soft in the rear end so it doesn't beat me up very much (I'm 6'3 and 175 lbs, so I know how to pound bikes!!).
For every person complaining about the paint job, the 1999 edition is going to be much, much sweeter. Just wait...now our team uniforms may actually match the colours of the bike!

Bottom Line:
Do a little research before you buy this bike. The frame is the same - made in the same factory etc.- as you will see on other bikes costing as little as half the price. KHS makes more bikes than what they can sell so there should be lots of these out there at huge savings.

Bottom Line:
I tried out the alite 4000 and didn't think much of it. For the price you can get a better frame and the other parts, beside the XTR ones, are not that great. And what a piece oh crap paint job. My dog thinks it's ugly. And by the way Kevin Jeffrey is a very happy guy (if you get what I mean)

Bottom Line:
This bike is very responsive, stiff and overall rating the best! Purchase
the frame and built a mixture of xt and xtr components on it. Weighs just under 24lbs, this bike handles great on single track and switch back. The sloping top tube make this bike very agressive and fast. This bike is definitely for racing. Khs alite 4000

Bottom Line:
Having been used to North Shore style bikes (long top tubes, short chainstays and not tall standover heights) my initial impression of this bike was not so good...it is still a little bit too nervous for me to enjoy. The bike has a short top tube (I'm 6'3) and prefers to be pushed into corners rather than carved.
I love the fork, the components work great, but I just can't find a place where this bike really feels at home.
