Strengths: Nice, light 7005 aluminium frame for the price. Even has "Race Ready USA" on it :pWeaknesses: noneBottom Line: I got this bike second-hand, and finally after all these years, I got myself a KHS Alite. The KHS Alite series offer surprisingly good value for money, esp weight-wise. The Alite 1000 I have may be considered in the same category as the Giant Yukon or a Trek 4000, but it certain underweighs the Giant or Trek frame by quite a bit. The frame feels physically light, though the strength of the aluminium may be alittle suspect. Nevertheless, its certainly very good value for money, a good bike to build up your components on.

Strengths:
Excellent pirce / performance ratio versus Schwinn and Rocky Mountain.Weaknesses:
I forsee a rear derailler upgrade in the future. (STX RC to XT)Bottom Line: The 99 comes with STX RC components which hold their weight under most conditions except for intense offroading where I would prefer the XT derailers.
The brakes are excellent !! Nearly did a face plant the first time.
Manitou Spyder forks are a great performer, Sun rims are light and solid.
Totally worth the money, Good Solid Bike.

Seatpost has a difficult sizeBottom Line: I'm currently studying Medicine at Guadalajara, Mexico and brought my GT with me from PR. Rode here and realized it was time for a change since I had that bike for four and a half years now. Wanted to change appearance and components, so I bought the alite 1000 frame down here without knowing anything about them (bought it for $175.00 US dollars), along with changing to all XT components. The result: a serious, strong and pretty lightweight (for your moneys worth) mtn bike. I've taken her to the worst trails ive seen here and pounded her badly (with the purpose of testing what I bought) and I must say that I am surprisingly impressed. Pretty impressive bike frame!

Bottom Line:
This is a very nice bike at a very reasonable price. I got it at a discount so it was
even better for me. I bought it about 3 yrs ago and I'm still lovin it. It came polished with purple accents with stx, powertools stuff and a rigid fork. The purple stuff was so cool at the time, but of course it's all but gone now.The ride is very sweet compared to the other bikes I tried. Two things I don't like about this bike is the weight and seatpost size. I'm not saying this thing's a tank because it's 7000 series double butted aluminum, but it is a bit heavy than comparable models from other manufactures. The seatpost size is an unusual 27.6mm which makes it hard to upgrade. A 27.2 with a shim will fit but it's not the best setup. Overall I love this bike mainly due to the sweet riding charateristics.

Bottom Line:
I have a 95 KHS Alite 1000. I have an indy XC long travel and many other upgrades. This thing kicks my friends bike which is piece of crap gary fisher. He is going to get a Klein which is going to kick butt. Anyway, This is a great bike and KHS makes stuff that is todo verdad.

Well, I did a lot of typos in my previous review, sorry.
This is my more elaborate version.The Alite 1000 I have is '96 model. I bought it from my
local bike shop. They said it's special configuration(LX
groupo, XT rear deraileur) about $900.One of my friends - he ride Rocky mountain's Thin air -
rode mine and said better than his(he's semi pro trial, BTW)I love this bike. I can ride it as I think. Recently, I got two problems. One is seatpost and the other
is brake bass on frame(an insert from frame for mount brake
part). The '96 Alite1000 has a 31.2mm Zoom seatpost. It's
really bad part of the Alite 1000. The seatpost's bolt&nut
for my seat lose! And I couldn't get the right size in the
Korean market. The KHS distributor in Korea also has no
extras.
The insert for brake is also bolt&nut losening. Also, it's
hard to get from local distirbutor. They said they will
replace the seatpost and the insert within 2 months.
Too much wait to me.
Anyway I ordered a seatpost reducer and Syncros to replace
and replace brake parts. But I'll back the original brake
when I get replacement from local dealer.Good bike! In Korea, $900 for such a bike is impossible.
Best bike performance/price ratio in Korea!!

Bottom Line:
Mine is KHS Alite 1000 with LX groupo. This is my the only & first bike.
Few days ago one of my friend - he is trial semi pro - ride it and
It's a really good bike. With my bike he can wheelie hop 5 times without
hesitation!!
(I found original Alite 1000 is STX groupo. Mine is probably special
configuration(without high price addtion))
